November is traditionally the month to remember our beloved dead, and to pray that they be given God's most precious gift of Eternal Life in Heaven. During this calendar year of 2019, the Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated here at Holy Trinity Parish on behalf of the follow-ing parish members: Doris Reinhart, Mary Ann Post, and Thelma Schindler. May God's comfort be with them and their families. Eternal rest grant unto all of our beloved dead, O Lord. Let the

radiance of your eternal light and peace abide with them now and forever. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

3 NOVEMBER 2019 3 THIRTY -F IRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

The Musings of Our Pastor I have "DWI" on my mind today, but it has nothing to do with "driving while intoxicated". Instead, on this occasion, "DWI" is all about "doing without it", and the "it" could be all sorts of things. I recall many occasions, when I have tast-ed some savory dish in my imagination all through a partic-ular day, and fully expected to "throw" the dish together for my evening meal. After the day's activities, though, and with measurable levels of energy depleted by such activi-ties, "doing without it" (DWI) was a conscious choice be-cause of limited time or because I just didn't want to go to the bother of fixing the savory dish after all. Maybe another day would be a better option! Meandering through a store on some occasion for me, was indeed, very purposeful be-cause my intent was to purchase something I believed I needed for some purpose. The reality check of the costly price tag for the particular item(s), however, made me quite comfortable "doing without it" (DWI) for the time be-ing. While it has never been an issue for me in 40 years of priestly ministry, should a most generous benefactor have offered to buy for me a swanky, brand new and very ex-pensive Mercedes automobile, the humility and simplicity of life I have opted for as a priest, hopefully, would have given me grace of "DWI", the particular grace of "doing without it" by politely turning down the exceptional gift. By welcoming (already!) the new month of November, we must fully realize that the Thanksgiving-Christmas Holi-day Season is right around the corner. "DWI", that is, "doing without it" might spur us on through a spirit of loving charity to de-clutter our lives, our closets, our attics and basements, etc., by gathering up some of the many clothes , toys, household items, or other such things (in good condition, of course), which just simply are not being used very much anymore. Why not take them to some local outreach center, such as the Goodwill, so that needy people might give them a new home and find wonderful benefits in your unused, dust-collecting stuff? "DWI", that is, "doing without it" might inspire us to forego a week's consumption of desserts, beer, or even the enjoyment of meat at some daily meals, so that we might purchase a turkey, a ham or other food resources to share on behalf of hungry/needy families in our area at Thanksgiving. "DWI", that is, "doing without it" might be a most valua-ble action for parents/households to take with regards to the use of technology (cell phones, televisions, etc.), espe-cially during family meals. Such a bold step might allow for some improved conversation, interaction and bonding by family members as they share their meals together. Growing in the spiritual or moral life, if we are serious about such things, requires of us an ongoing commitment to "DWI", that is, "doing without it", which includes whatev-er is essentially sinful, whatever keeps me from being truly and fully devoted to God, whatever intrudes on the solitude I need for prayerful communion with God. In classic spiritual terms, this is what is called "detachment". Since November also brings to a close the current Church Year and our Sunday Readings focus on the end of the world or the Second Coming of Christ, it is a good time to think about the "spirit of detachment" and "DWI" because all sorts of things, if we are not careful, can hinder our readiness to be welcomed by God into the full-ness of eternal life in heaven after death. God bless you and have a great week! —Fr. Ken

MARK YOUR CALENDARS... St. Joseph’s Men’s Society 66th Annual Stag

Fish Fry is on Friday, November 22nd— 5:30pm

$8.00 donation tickets will be available at the door. At the event, a ham raffle as well as a 50/50 drawing will take place. This is for men ages 18 and older. A job

listing for the event is available for pickup in the back of church.

Thank you in advance to all who help with this event, including the CYO for their assistance in clean up in the morning on Saturday, November 23rd, at 8am. For questions, contact Kyle Laux at 260-251-8473.

As we welcome the new month of November, we also embark on the National Week of Prayer for Vocations (Nov. 3rd-9th). As children, teens and even young adults ponder the dreams or pathways in life, which might bring them growth, fulfill-

ment or happiness in their life on earth, it is always important to prayerfully consider what specific vocation or pathway in life God might be calling me to pursue. The Catholic Church

affirms God's call for individuals might be lived out in 3 unique and important vocations: a) the vocation to the single life, b) the vocation of marriage & family life, c) the vocation to the priesthood or religious life. Each vocation offers unique opportunities to put one's faith into action for the purpose of building God's Kingdom on earth, for the purpose of contrib-

uting to the vitality of the Church, and for the purpose of building a better world. Let us pray this week ( and on many

other occasions) that many new vocations to the priesthood or the religious life may come forth from our parish families to serve the needs of the Church in our world. Remember Von

Erik Sandoval, who’s immersed in theology studies at Washington, D.C., as he explores/prepares for a vocation to

the priesthood with the Carmelites.

We like to think of the United States of America as a "Land of Plenty", but it is absolutely bewildering to see the statistics

about the ever-growing number of children or households that just do not have suitable portions of food or healthy kinds of

food to eat on a day-to-day basis. From the weekend of Novem-ber 16th & 17th through Thanksgiving Day, containers will be found at the doors of the church for donations of food, which

will be given to the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Parents might see this as a "teachable moment", when children and teens ought

to be encouraged to take some money from their own piggy bank or allowance, in order to purchase some item of food from the store to share with the hungry people of our community. It nurtures in them a spirit of gratitude to God for his wonderful gifts to us, and it nurtures in them the important good habit of almsgiving that should be a hallmark of our lives as Catholic-

Christian people.

For victim assistance information/to contact the diocese coordinator in regards to this matter, please view the poster near the church entrance.
