4-H Enrollment Deadline—May 15th! There are so many exciting things happening in the month of May, it’s easy to forget a deadline or
two. So here are a couple of reminders! It is extremely important to make sure that you have
enrolled in 4-H by the May 15th deadline. If a 4-H’er has not enrolled or re-enrolled for the 2017-
2018 4-H year, they will not be able to participate in the Montgomery County Fair. This is also a
great time to make sure that you signed up for all of the project areas that you want to participate in!
New for this year: Make sure you have turned in a signed copy of the Iowa Exhibitor Youth
Code of Ethics to your leader or the Extension Office. Without this, you will not be able to participate
in the Montgomery County Fair. This is also due by May 15th!
Sheep and Meat Goat Weigh-Ins Sheep and meat goat weigh-in will be Saturday, May 5th from 9:00—11:00 AM at the
Montgomery County Fairgrounds Beef barn.
All sheep and goats that you wish to nominate for the Iowa State Fair or AK-SAR-BEN
will need to be retinal imaged. There will be a $5 fee for each animal imaged.
Meat goats must be born after January 1, 2018. Breeding goats are not required to come to weigh-
ins. There will be NO buck classes during the 2018 Montgomery County Fair Goat Show.
We are excited to partner with the United Farmers Cooperative to bring you a revised Market Broiler
Pen Project this year! The project description and entry form are attached at the end of the Green
Gazette. Please contact Celine at the Extension Office if you have any questions!
Broiler Market Forms must be returned to the Extension Office or the Red Oak United Farmers
Cooperative on or before May 15th.
Dog Handling Classes

park and the pool). Youth and dogs with 3 or more years of experience will start at 6:30 p.m. Agility
classes will start at 7:00 p.m. starting on May 10th. First and second year youth and dogs will meet
after the agility class. Any adjustments will be made at meetings.
