Buddhist Folk Tale Plays

Instructions:In your groups read the Buddhist folk tale carefully!

PlanningYou must:

1. Identify all examples of the Four Noble Truths 2. Identify all examples of the Eightfold Path3. Identify a moral/lesson about Buddhism this folk tale is trying to teach.

Creating:In your groups create a script for a skit where each member participates. Only your group has this folk tale so it is important you do not leave out any important information when you translate the folk tale to a play. You do not need to keep exact dialogue from the tale, but must keep the same setting, characters and plot.

Your finished script must be at least 2 typed pages but no more than 4.

All group members names must be on the script.

Performing:You will perform your skit for the class. A quality performance will feature the following:

1. All group members performing confidently and knowing their parts2. Students occasionally referencing their scripts but they are not reading them to the

audience3. Appropriate action (not violence, using classroom furniture as props). If you are unsure

if something is OK, ask Mr Mucha!

Reflecting:After you’ve completed your script, your group will complete the play reflection sheet. Mr. Mucha will give this to you after he sees your finished script!
