Registration: Carmin Laurens 856-776-2372 Programming: Cindy Phillips 856-776-2371 After your child is registered for camp, you will receive an invitation to join our Shutterfly account. We use Shutterfly to communicate with our families and for you to see what is going on at camp. If you don’t receive an invitation, please send an email to [email protected].

Registration

When to register Registration begins April 4, 2016. Register early because classes tend to fill quickly. Campers will be accepted until all spaces are filled. A wait list will be created once a class is filled. All classes are first-come, first-served based on receipt of their completed applications and payments.

How to register Registrations will not be processed without all required forms. For a complete brochure and all required forms visit http://www.cccnj.edu/continuing-education/summer-academy-kids In-person registrations will be taken at the Workforce & Community Education Office, 10 Buck Street, Millville, NJ. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Saturday registrations available on campus at the Fine & Performing Arts Center from 10:00 p.m.-2 p.m. on the following days:

How to Pay Full payment is due at time of registration. You may register by mail with a check or money order. You may also register by faxing or scanning your registration and required paperwork; however, we are unable to accept credit card payments via fax or scan. Credit card payments will be accepted by phone or in person. A $20 processing fee will be imposed for withdrawal or change of any schedule. Our fax number is 856-765-5384. If you spend than $500 or more in camp costs per camper, then you are able to use the FACTS payment system.

FACTS This program enables you to make monthly payments for your summer camp expenses. Please contact us for more information.

Required Paperwork Cumberland County College will not be offering online registrations this year. In order to register your camper, all required forms need to be submitted with registration and payment.

All required forms are located on the college’s website at http://www.cccnj.edu/continuing-education/summer-academy-kids

1. Camper Registration form for each camper

Indicate on registration form whether camper is attending Before or After Care 2. Camper Code of Conduct 3. Anti-Bullying Agreement 4. Medical History Report 5. Camper Release Form 6. Student Information Sheet 7. Current immunization record from doctor’s office

Immunization records must be received no later than 5 days after registering your child. Records may be faxed or scanned.

A receipt will be mailed or provided in person when you register. Our tax ID number is 22-1779135.

Discounts Summer Academy for Kids offers a sibling discount. Once you have paid for your first camper, than any siblings registering will receive a 15% discount.

Wait List If a class has reached its capacity, a wait list will be created. If demand for a class warrants it, another class for that age group will be added.

Refund Policy Refunds will be granted only when written notice of a camper’s withdrawal is received no later than 5 days business days before the start of each session. No refunds will be granted thereafter. Telephone withdrawals will not be accepted. A $25 processing fee will be imposed for withdrawals. No refunds are issued for suspension or expulsion from camp. If a class is canceled, full tuition will be refunded. Please allow six weeks from the date of cancellation to receive the refund.

Lost And Found All items left at camp will be taken to the camp office at the end of each day. We will hold these items for two weeks only. Afterward, these items will be donated to a charity of our choice. You are welcome to come to the office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to look through our lost and found collection. The office staff is not able to check the lost and found bin for you. You must do this in person.

Code of Behavior In order to create an environment where each student has the freedom to grow Summer Academy for Kids does not tolerate the following:

Fighting with another student, staff, volunteer, or parent Destruction or theft of any property or materials Disrespect towards others Use of inappropriate language and/or innuendo Racial or sexual harassment (including inappropriate physical contact)

In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable learning environment, campers are required to sign the Anti-Bullying and Camper Code of Conduct Agreement. Failure to abide by the program rules may lead to dismissal from camp with no refund. All incidents of misconduct are taken very seriously. Disruptive activities will not be tolerated and will be subject to the following disciplinary actions.

1st incident – verbal warning and parental notification.

2nd incident – a two day suspension from camp. The camp director will require a parent

conference.

3rd incident – expulsion from camp, which includes all activities.

Promotional Release By signing the Release of Liability Form included in the Student Information sheet, you authorize and give Cumberland County College permission to take, use, publish, and reproduce photographs, videos, and other images of your child for the propose of promoting the college’s

programs.

Allergies Please note that we are not an allergy-free facility.

Reporting Absences If your child will be absent from camp, please call the Camp Office 856-691-8600 x1338. There will be no credits or refunds for missed or sick days of camp.

Dress Code for Campers Parents and or Guardians are responsible for sending campers to camp adequately dressed and prepared for a variety of weather conditions. Campers must wear closed toe shoes. Also, please note that some camp activities may be messy, so dress your camper accordingly. Send your camper with a sweatshirt or sweater because some buildings are very cool.

Electronics Campers are allowed to bring electronics to camp; however they will be confiscated from campers who use them to play games, text, take or view photos, search the internet, etc. during class instruction. If a camper needs to make a non-emergency call to his/her parents, they need to talk to our staff, who will assist the camper. Cumberland County College is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property. Thank you for your cooperation!

Weather In the event of extreme and highly unusual weather conditions or other natural disasters such as flooding, hurricane, etc., camp may end early, be postponed, or cancelled. Refunds will not be provided under these circumstances. Staff will monitor weather reports and may make changes to the planned itinerary to provide the best experience possible for campers; however, schedule changes are not always possible, and inclement weather may result in the day's camp activity being altered or replaced.

Location Camp is held in the Fine and Performing Arts Building. Campers must be dropped off and picked up at this location.

Before and After Care The Before Care program begins at 6:30 a.m. in the Fine & Performing Arts Building Gallery section. A staff member must be present in order for campers to be dropped off. If you arrive after 9:00 a.m., please report to the camp office. Campers may be dropped off at 8:30 a.m. for no additional fee. The After Care programs begins at 4:00 p.m. and runs until 6:00 p.m. in the Fine & Performing Arts Building Gallery section. If you pick up a camper after 6:00 p.m., a late fee will imposed. If a camper is attending a half-day session, the cost for Before or After Care is $15. If a camper is attending a full day of classes, there will be no charge for Before or After Care.

Student Drop Off/Pick-Up Our concern for camper safety, requires that parents accompany students to the designated drop off area in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. Parents and or guardians are asked to sign out their camper in person at the end of their camp day. Please remember that we will not release a child without proper identification, so please have it with you.

Drop Off Procedures When Before Care is over, campers will report to their assigned homeroom. Morning sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. Campers may begin to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for no additional charge. Afternoon camp sessions begin at 1:00 p.m. Campers may begin to arrive at 12:30 p.m. for no charge. Campers that are being dropped off for an afternoon session must sign in at the registration table located in the gallery. Please note that some of our campers may not return from field trips right at 4:00 p.m., if this is the case, then they will be in After Care for no charge until 4:30 p.m. You will be notified in advance.

Pickup Procedures Campers scheduled to be picked up after the morning session will be waiting in the gallery. Please stop at the registration table to sign out your child. Morning Sessions end at 12:00 p.m. If your child does not have a scheduled afternoon session, plan to pick them up at 12:00 p.m. Campers not picked up 12:15 p.m. will be placed in After Care and you will be billed accordingly. Full Day and Afternoon Sessions end at 4:00 p.m. Plan to pick up your camper at 4:00 p.m., unless you have been notified about a field trip running late. Campers not picked up by 4:15 p.m. will be placed in After Care and you will be billed accordingly. If you are going to be delayed, call the camp office at 856-691-8600 x1338. We will let your camper know you are running late. If you have an emergency and are unable to reach us, call: 856-691-8600

Snacks Each day, please send snacks and water bottles labeled with your child’s name. Vending machines are available for the campers to use.

Ice Cream Truck Pete’s Treats will be back at camp again this year. He will be here on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. Please send in $1 to $3 for a summer treat for your camper.

Sunscreen Policy & Procedure Summer Academy for Kids does everything possible to protect our campers from excessive exposure to the sun, while still allowing them to get the most out of our outdoor games and activities. Parents and guardians must apply sunscreen in the morning before their child comes to camp. Please send sunscreen to camp with your child in a sealed plastic bag labeled with the child’s

first and last name. Our staff will place it in a tote bag that will be in their possession throughout the day. Any remaining sunscreen will be sent home Friday, the last day of camp for that week. During the camp day, our staff will take all reasonable and appropriate steps to help each child reapply sunscreen to exposed skin. If parents and or guardians have more than one camper attending camp, we ask each camper have their own supply of sunscreen so that it is readily accessible throughout the camp day.

Field Trips Transportation will be provided in the college’s 15 passenger vans. Field trip permission forms and liability waivers need to be filled out and submitted before the trip. All forms are on the college’s website at http://www.cccnj.edu/continuing-education/summer-academy-kids

Campers are expected to remain with their assigned group at all times.

Campers are expected to follow instruction from their group leaders

Campers are expected to remain seated while in the van.

Excessive noise is not permitted.

A disruptive camper may not be able to participate in other trips.

Transportation During travel times, campers are required to remain seated with safety belts fastened. Staff reserve the right to assign seats when necessary. Campers are expected to follow basic instructions and behavioral guidelines during travel. Instances of "bullying" or other inappropriate behavior may lead to camper dismissal in accordance with our behavior policies. Summer Academy for Kids uses a 15 passenger van. Children age 8 and under will need a safety seat or booster seat unless the child is 4 feet 9 inches or taller. If your child is under the age of 8, under 4 feet 9 inches tall and DOES NOT have a car seat or booster, he/she will not ride in the van. Please send in a booster seat with your child if they are riding in the van and ensure it is clearly marked with your child’s name.

Lunch Campers will be able to purchase lunch from the college cafeteria at a cost of $3 each day. Lunch orders will be taken on Friday afternoon and payment must be submitted on Monday morning. Lunch will be delivered to the camper’s homerooms each day at 12:00 p.m. Campers packing lunch must bring food that does not require refrigeration. Do not send in foods that require heating in a microwave. Campers who forget their lunch will be charged $3 for a cafeteria meal.

Pre-Camp June 20 - June 24 All this week, it will be camper’s choice for indoor or outdoor activities. Construct with K’Nex, strategize with board games, create works of art, play outside or grab a good book and relax in the grove. Daily fee: $35

Week 1: June 27 - July 1

Morning Session Kung Fu Fun “Calling all dragon warriors!” Develop self-confidence and work together as a team just like the furious five as you participate in fun team building exercises. Class fee: $89 Imagine That Create your own color palette by experimenting with primary colors. Give your colors amazing names and then use your creativity to design wonderful pieces of art. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Cupcake Creations This week CulinArt and you will let your imaginations and creativity run wild as you discover how to use icing, flavorings, decorations and candies to turn cupcakes into creations of art! Please bring in your own undecorated cupcakes each day and a container to take home any leftover treats. Class fee: $109

K’Nex Time Each day will bring about new challenges: from designing skyscrapers, bridges, a giant Ferris wheel to a roller coaster. Get creative and see what you can build with many K’Nex at your fingertips. Class fee: $89

Week 2: July 4 - July 8

All Day & All Week A Native American Journey You will learn more about the culture of Native American Indian culture. Take a guided tour at the Indian Trail Farm in Vineland and visit an authentic Lenape Indian village, where you will sit inside a 24 foot Tipi, embark on a nature walk, and ride a horse in the indoor arena. On a separate day you will have the opportunity to visit the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribe in Bridgeton for an all-day learning experience. In between trips you will be making totem poles, dream catchers, Tipi ice cream treats, and much more. Class fee: $218 (This is an all day and all week class.)

Morning Session Fantastic Fairy Tales In this class, you will enjoy your favorite fairy tales with such activities as reading, listening, singing, and of course amazing arts and crafts. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Mini Scientist Join the Make & Move Club and put on your lab coat and become a Mini Scientist for the week! Each day you will focus on different aspects of science including chemistry, biology, space, and physics. There will be plenty of experiments to give you a sampling of each area of science. Class fee: $89

Week 3: July 11 - July 15 Morning Session: Fun On The Farm You will have the chance to visit a variety of places to see how food grows and make a smoothie with all the fresh fruit you pick. You will also get a chance to take a behind-the-scenes tour of ShopRite. Class fee: $109 Gross Science Stinky, silly, and slimey, science can be downright gross. But, that is what makes it fun! The Make & Move Club will give you a chance to perform lots of experiments like creating fake snot, stinky balloons, and a mold museum. You will get to learn about the science behind the experiments and see why science is so gross, and so cool! Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Cardboard Creativity In this class you will be thinking outside of the box. The cardboard box, that is. In this class, you will have the chance to get creative with various box shapes. Maybe you will create your own town, complete with a post office and gas station. Come join us and see what a Summer Academy for Kids town might look like. Class fee: $89 Music Makers Happy sounds make happy campers. You will make your own musical instruments and on Friday, you will put on a rock star performance that will be recorded and posted on Shutterfly for our camper families to view. Class fee: $89

Week 4: July 18 - July 22

Morning Session Exploring My Community You begin the week by visiting the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton, the Funny Farm Rescue Animal Sanctuary in Mays Landing, take a nature walk at the Commercial Township Wetland site, visit the Atlantic County Utilities Authority for a recycling tour and end the week at a fire station. Class fee: $109 Mini Engineering Do you ever wonder how things are put together? Do you enjoy learning how things work? Mini Engineering is for you! Each day, the Make & Move Club will present you with a problem and you will work together as a team to solve it using engineering and science. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Let It Fly 3-2-1 Launch! You will make all kinds of flying crafts, including an egg carton glider, rocket straws, paper helicopters, a hovercraft, and kites all that will be ready for lift off! Class fee: $89 Puppet Theatre You will create characters for a story, make hand puppets, and put on a show that will be recorded and posted on Shutterfly for our camper families to view. Week 5: July 25 - July 29

Morning Session Game On Let’s get moving and go outside and for some old fashioned fun. You will participate in relay races, freeze tag, kickball, red light-green light, capture the flag, and more action games. Class fee: $89 Recycled Art You will learn how to use items that would otherwise end up in the recycling bin to make cool crafts. Items such as cans, plastic jugs, egg cartons, CDs, paper, jars, and much more will be used to create some unique and wonderful art projects. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session All That Dance Get your groove on at the All That Dance Studio in Bridgeton. Campers will enjoy learning Hip Hop techniques and fitness fun with Zumba. Class fee: $109 Can We Build It? Yes we can! You will discover many materials that you can use as construction items. You will make a cardboard construction set, build & design with cheese cubes, use popsicle sticks to make bridges, and whatever else you can imagine. Class fee: $89

Week 6: August 1 - August 5

Morning Session Gross Science Stinky, silly, and slimey, science can be downright gross. But, that is what makes it fun! The Make & Move Club will give you a chance to perform lots of experiments like creating fake snot, stinky balloons, and a mold museum. You will get to learn about the science behind the experiments and see why science is so gross, and so cool! Class fee: $89 Crazy Kickball It’s not just regular kickball! Play Two Base Kickball, Big Base Kickball, Mat Ball, and the ultimate, Crazy Kickball. Lace up your sneakers and have fun! Class fee: $89 Afternoon Session Star Wars Week Use the force this summer to have an epic adventure. Learn more about the characters, films, and your favorite hero’s journeys. Go through daily Jedi training, design your own galaxy, and work on special projects to take home. May the force be with you! Class fee: $89

Awesome Art If you love to get messy and be creative, then you should sign up for Awesome Art! You will use your hands, feet, and imaginations to create amazing pieces of art using a variety of materials. Don’t wear your Sunday best because you will get messy! Class fee: $89

Week 7: August 8 - August 12

Morning Session Free Play Let’s discover the many playgrounds in our area. It’s going to be a great week jumping, climbing, and swinging the day away. Class fee: $109 5 Senses Look, listen, touch, smell, and taste the importance of having all 5 senses. This week you will discover: What does it smell like? What does it taste like? What does it sound like? What does it look like? You will investigate one sense each day, read books and talk about the five senses. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Science Creates Art! Let’s use science to create art! This week the Make & Move Club will focus on hands-on activities using science to create beautiful works of art. You will make color changing milk, listen to musical fractions, and create your own watercolor paints. There is no end to the beauty of science in this week! Class fee: $89 NASA Space Explorers Space, the Final Frontier. You will explore NASA’s website for kids and discover how black holes are formed, why Saturn has rings, what dark matter is, and what your weight is in space. Become an astronaut for the week and journey into space! Class fee: $89

Week 8: August 15 - August 19

Morning Session Mini Scientist Join the Make & Move Club and put on your lab coat and come become a Mini Scientist for the week! Each day you will focus on different aspects of science including chemistry, biology, space, and physics. There will be plenty of experiments to give you a sampling of each area of science. Class fee: $89 Storybook Theater Join us as you use your imagination to create a play based on mixed-up fairy tales. You will create your own costumes and practice for a speculator performance that will be recorded and posted on Shutterfly for our camper families to view. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Wild Weather Chasers Crash, boom – what caused that thunder to be so loud? Take a look at the weather around us from tornadoes to blizzards and find out what causes these weather events. You will create your own weather projects such as a wind vane, rain stick, and plastic bag kite. Class fee: $89 Crafty Snacks Arts & crafts should go hand-in-hand with food. Using a variety of grocery store finds, you will create beautiful, yet edible works of art. Class fee: $89

Week 9: August 22 - August 26

Morning Session Mini Engineering Do you ever wonder how things are put together? Do you enjoy learning how things work? Mini Engineering is for you! Each day, the Make & Move Club will present you with a problem and you will work together as a team to solve it using engineering and science. Class fee: $89 Where the Wild Things Are

A wild world unfolds in this five-day investigation of the animal kingdom. You will learn about mammals, birds, and reptiles and the places they live as well as meeting some face to face when you visit the Cohanzick Zoo. Class fee: $89

Afternoon Session Green Thumbs Up Learn what it takes to grow and maintain a garden. Investigate the wonders of plant growth, soil structure, design your own mini garden with various containers and choose what you want to grow. You will also have the chance to build birdhouses. Class fee: $89 Simple Science for Home You will learn how to conduct science experiments using everyday items that you can find at home. At the end of the week, you will be able to teach your families a thing or two. Class fee: $89

Week 1: June 27 - July 1

All Day and All Week Shore Explorers This week you are going to wade into the wetlands at the Bayshore Center at Bivavle, experience hands-on learning at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor; and the American Littoral Society will show you how to use seine nets at Oyster Reef. You will also visit the Atlantic County Utilities Authority for an insightful tour of the recycling center and will explore the walking trails at the Commercial Township Wetland Restoration Site. Class fee: $218 (This is an all day and all week class.)

All Day & All Week Class A Native American Journey You will learn more about the culture of Native American Indian culture. Take a guided tour at the Indian Trail Farm in Vineland and visit an authentic Lenape Indian village, where you will sit inside a 24 foot Tipi, embark on a nature walk, and ride a horse in the indoor arena. On a separate day you will have the opportunity to visit the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribe in Bridgeton for an all-day learning experience. In between trips you will be making totem poles, dream catchers, Tipi ice cream treats, and much more. Class fee: $218 (This is an all day and all week class.)

Morning Session: Minecraft Animators Black Rocket is back again this summer ready to bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Class fee: $129 Tennis Tennis, anyone? You will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of tennis, such as forehand, backhand, serving, and volleys. You will also learn the rules of a tennis match and how to keep score. All Day and All Week Shore Explorers This week you are going to wade into the wetlands at the Bayshore Center at Bivavle, experience hands-on learning at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor; and the American Littoral Society will show you how to use seine nets at Oyster Reef. You will also visit the Atlantic County Utilities Authority for an insightful tour of the recycling center and will explore the walking trails at the Commercial Township Wetland Restoration Site.
