Audition requirements: A $50.00 non-refundable processing fee is required with your application and recording. (If you are not accepted for Chamber Camp and would like to attend Senior Camp, the $50.00 will be applied toward tuition.) Audition tapes must be postmarked by April 2. Students will be notified by May 7.All CDs/tapes should include two pieces in contrasting styles (an etude can substitute for one of the pieces). In addition, the following is also required: Winds & Brass: please use the CBDA All-State high school scales (available from www.cbda.org) Strings: 2 three-octave scales: one major and one minor (melodic). Singers: a chromatic scale demonstrating your range. CMEA, CBDA, ACDA, or CODA audition tapes are also acceptable in lieu of the above requirements. Please include a solo work if not already on tape. Pianists: Piano students are selected by participating in the Sylvia Ghiglieri Piano Competition (to be held on May 2, 2009 at CSU Stanislaus – contact the Music Dept. for more info). The top two winners will be offered scholar- ships to the Chamber Camp. Audition tapes will be considered if the winners of the competition are not able to come to camp (see requirements above). If you are not accepted to the chamber session, and would like to be automatically enrolled in the Senior session, please check BOTH the chamber box and the senior box on the application form. CHAMBER MUSIC CAMP (grades 9-12) June 17-27, 2009 Chamber Music Camp is an intense program for the finest young musicians in California. Students may choose to audition for any one of the following ensembles: String Quartet, Vocal Octet, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Saxophone Quartet, or Piano Duo. (In addition, the pianists also may have the opportunity to combine with the string quartet or woodwind quintet.) Chamber groups will partici- pate in approximately four hours of coaching daily with faculty and will be highlighted in a chamber music concert on June 22. The remainder of camp will consist of continued participation with their chamber groups and with the Senior Camp band, orchestra or choir. JUNIOR CAMP (grades 6-8) June 14-20, 2009 Junior Camp is open to all band, orchestra, and piano students (pianists: please see information below), who have completed grades six through eight in the spring of 2009. Students will participate in concert band or orchestra as major performing ensembles. In addition, campers will have daily sectional rehearsals, elective classes (conducting, music history, music theory, beginning piano, vocal techniques, composition, and jazz ensemble), and the opportunity to participate in chamber ensembles. Private lessons from faculty may also be available for an additional fee. SENIOR CAMP June 21-27, 2009 Senior Camp is open to all band, orchestra, choral, and piano students (pianists: please see information below), who have completed grades nine through twelve in the spring of 2009. In addition to concert band, orchestra, and choir as major performing ensembles, students will have the opportunity to perform in chamber ensembles and may take a variety of elective classes including conducting, music history, music theory, beginning piano, vocal techniques, composition, jazz ensemble and improvisation. Private lessons from faculty may also be available for an additional fee. An audition tape is required for all gradu- ating eighth grade instrumentalists wishing to enroll in Senior Session. The tape should consist of a two-octave scale and a solo that demonstrates technical and musical ability. Pianists will receive a daily individual lesson in a master class format, classes in piano literature, keyboard harmony and technique, and piano ensemble. In addition, students will have elective classes from which to choose (see descriptions under Junior or Senior camp headings). Piano Camp will culminate with a concluding performance celebrating each student’s accomplishments. Students will also have elective classes from which to choose (see descriptions under Senior camp headings). Throughout the composition program, there will be ample opportunity for readings and performances of the students’ works by their peers and faculty/staff.
