of the students in our school.

Thank you to the Nambucca Woolworths management and also the ladies who look after us each Tuesday morning when we go in for our pick-ups. They always meet us with patience and a smile. I also want to thank the parents who volunteer to make the toast each morning, Judy Blair (2 days), Cheree Chapman, Lissy Venner, Jarrod Wayland and Bec Shelley. Your contributions to our

Relationship building

At the core of reading is a relationship and it is the bond between children and parents that is enhanced through reading together. It only takes ten minutes a

day to build this relationship.

Children’s reading improves

The research is conclusive: When parents successfully support their children’s literacy learning from an early age, everyone benefits. When teachers and parents work together to support children’s reading and academic success, learning outcomes for all children

improve.

Children read more

Students who read with their parents are better prepared for school. They begin school with knowledge of book language and familiarity with concepts of print. They understand how books work and have many more exposures to

text types and vocabulary.

Children’s self-esteem

improves

Knowing someone cares enough to take time out of a busy schedule to give you undivided attention

Principal’s report cont…..

APPLICATION FOR EXTENDED LEAVE -TRAVEL

If your child will be absent for a week or more for travel please see the office for an “Application for Extended Leave - Travel” form. This leave needs to be approved by the Principal when taken during the School

around a book makes a significant difference to how students perceive themselves as learners and readers. When parents show an interest in their children’s learning, children respond

positively.

Reading unites families through

shared stories

When a family reads together, stories form a common ground for communicating. Stories bind families and help students makes sense of where they

fit in the world.

Not only does parent involvement have a specific and profound impact on children’s reading, but also on children’s language and literacy learning in general. It is through interactions with parents and carers that children learn new vocabulary, seek clarification of new understandings, and learn to comprehend their expanding worlds. Talk is the key to reading and writing success. Talking with children (walking to school, at the table, in the car, bedtime) has a significant effect on literacy

learning in general.

STATE PSSA ALL SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS

Last Friday Daniel Williams and Lexie Brown excelled at the State Cross Country. Both students worked hard as they ran over rock, bitumen, grass and concrete surfaces in their respective races. With the large numbers of students it was a huge eye opener for Lexie as our Year 2 dynamo who took the whole experience in her stride and was seen hugging her competitors at the end of the race as they congratulated each

other on their performances.

Daniel our experienced competitor had top 6 in his sights. He went out fast and was determined not to get back in the pack. He planned his race during the walk of the course and worked on the best racing line to minimise his time. With the finish line in his sights he threw everything he had and crossed in 4th Place. The smile on his face that stretched a mile wide as he returned to school told it all. He was off to nationals! He had achieved his goals. All those days of pounding the pavement, laps of EJ Biffin and his perseverance and patience had paid

off. Well done Daniel and Lexie.

To help Daniel get to Nationals we have raffle tickets to sell at

the front office they are $5.00 each with some great prizes!

RUGBY LEAGUE Last Friday some very enthusiastic and keen tacklers took to the field at Geoff King Motors Oval in Coffs Harbour for the annual Group 2 competition. The boys worked hard and were very excited as they crossed the try line. The boys demonstrated great resilience when they were behind on the score line and worked on building each others confidence and it really paid

off with team tries.

Congratulations to Blake, Taj, Landon, Denzell, River, Luke, Ace, Jett, Trey, Isaac, Saibe, Tully, Zade, Tyler, Remi, Joe, Asher, Ryan, RJ, Wyatt, Nate, Jairah, Vegas, Evan, Caleb,

Jacob, Riley, Linque, Max

A massive thank you to Mr Trindall for his work with the teams and to our amazing parents and families who provided transport to get all the boys to the ground. The support and team work on the sideline was just as impressive as the games on the field. We are so lucky to have such a supportive school community who work as a team here at

Nambucca Heads.
