HORIZON NEWS Term 4 Week 2
Year 12’s Farewell Assembly:
School life is rapidly coming to an end for the Year 12 class of 2020 and
they are working steadily on final assignments and for some, preparations
for up-coming exams. This Friday they will have their final farewell
assembly starting at 2.00pm. Due to COVID restrictions, we are asking that
only parents of Year 12 students attend this assembly (along with our Year 6
to 11 classes). Please park in the Horizon Centre carpark and enter through
the east doors to the foyer, where you will be required to sign in and use
hand sanitiser and social distancing. We thank you for your understanding.
Staffing Changes:
We wish to advise our school families that there will be some staffing
changes from next week (Week 3).
Mrs Hollie McPharlin will be leaving to go on Maternity leave. We wish both
Mr Jason and Mrs Hollie McPharlin God’s richest blessings as they prepare
for the arrival of their first child.
Mrs McPharlin’s work load has been distributed to our current teachers to
enable a smooth transition for students. The role of Home Group teacher will
be shared by Mr Clinton Baker and Mrs Terry Edmunds.
Book Week – ‘Curious Creatures’ – Friday 30th October: The Book Week Parade/ Dress Up Day will be held on Friday 30th October.
We encourage all Primary students to dress up on this day.
Guidelines for Dress Ups:
Respectful of school ethos.
Students are to dress appropriately with no unsuitable, violent,
gruesome or offensive representations.
No sharp objects.
No witches, wizards, warlocks.
Choose books where the content is suitable for primary school aged
children.
Please be considerate of religion, culture, nationality, disability and
gender when choosing costumes.
Ensure costumes sufficiently cover the student’s body.
Costumes should allow a student’s participation in class activities,
including PE.
We look forward to a wonderful celebration about Books.
There will be a special Assembly held on Friday at 9am in the Horizon
Centre. Due to COVID, only parents are able to attend and will need to
park in the Horizon Centre carpark, sign in at the foyer and use hand
sanitiser and social distancing. We thank you for your understanding.
Scholastic Book Fair:
The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in our school library from Tuesday 27th
to Thursday 29th October. Due to COVID restrictions the book fair will only
be available to student from 9am to 3pm. Parents are still welcome to
purchase books (from the catalogue which has been sent home with Primary

Bandana Day and Casual Clothes Day – Thursday 29th October:
Bandanas will be sold in the front office from this week. Bandana Day is officially the 30th of October
but our school will be holding it the day before, on the 29th of October. This coincides with our casual
clothes day in Week 3. Therefore, it will be a bandana theme casual clothes day.
Normal bandanas are $5 and the premium bandanas are $15.
All money raised goes to Canteen – supporting young people affected by Cancer.
Car Park – Drop Off and Pick Up Zone:
In the interest of our student’s safety, we ask that if your child is not waiting in the carpark to be
collected that you park your car in the designated parks rather than wait in the pickup zone. The
pickup zone is not designed to have more than 3 cars waiting in this area, and causes significant
congestion. This will make for a much safer car park experience for all. We thank you for your
understanding and cooperation.
Horizon Canteen:
We are very pleased to see the progress of our new canteen. It is very much looking like it will be
ready for the start of Week 3. This means that our canteen menu will go back to normal as of Monday
Week 3.
Our wonderful canteen staff are working hard to support our school families with a limited menu,
available at recess and lunch, from the administration block during this time. We thank our canteen
staff and our volunteers for the great work they are doing.
