BEST TWO PRACTICES OF THE COLLEGE FIRST PRACTICE COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH : As a path to creating job Avenues & Skill Development. GOALS :

To keep pace with the changing demand in government jobs & suitable berth in public & private sector undertakings.

To prepare our students face the challenges at national and international level.

To instill confidence and boost up morale of the students enrolled at our institution.

To develop a competitive and congenial outlook in our students.

To promote a sense of discipline and all round personality development. The context At the outset it appeared as a difficult task preparing the students, both boys & girls, hailing from educationally neglected and economically weak background understand the advantages of such an endeavour on our campus. Gradually, however, with our continual and sustained efforts we noticed our students attending to our Communicative English class on a regular basis and evincing interest in the lessons imparted. Thus the optional classes in Communicative English at our institution began to register a good strength and our efforts seemed to be duly rewarded. The practice has stayed and we are trying our best to design and develop the subject matter of the conversation skill. The practice The present day world is so full of literature in English containing information on varied human interest and needs that enthusing our students to develop and enrich their faculty by way of learning, retaining and reproducing has remained our main concern while we prepare our teachers to develop strategies to address this aspect of educating the learners. Our thrust, has, therefore been three cornered, that is, making reading by way of correct pronunciation a habit, to develop the practice of correct writing as a character trait and, thirdly, to articulate an ability to think and deliver in as good communicative skill as possible. Generally, the Communicative English classes pay emphasis on communicative skill only leaving it to learners to bother about the pronunciation or the correct usages denoting particular refrences. We, however, have been taking all pains to teach our students everything connected with specking the best possible English, the American English usages, the colloquial English and the varied words and usages in different situations. In a way, we have been shedding light on how our students, both boys & girls, may develop continuing and sustaining interest in learning new words and

Page 66: B.Profile of the Affiliated /Constituent Collegerajendramishracollege.org/assets/2012/08/NAAC..pdf · 6. Source of funding: Government √ Grant-in-aid Self-financing Any other 7

vocabulary, the very keenly required grammar as a sure aid to write and speak correctly and finally, to enrich the mental faculty to think, deliberate and deliver. Evidence of success We notice evidence of our sincere efforts in the undernoted areas of activity in our students :

Selection of our students in various jobs. One of our students selected for the prestigious IPS in the year’ 2009.

Our students cleared different competitive examinations like Engineering, Medical, Banking, Defence etc.

Marked development of potentiality in our students to face the Interview board.

Some of the students on the college roll have entered the very challenging area of free lance journalism & electronics media.

Our students have cultivated the habit of visiting library on a regular basis.

We have also come across our students managing and running coaching institutes successfully thereby moulding the career of many.

Some of our students use to impart lessons in Communicative English in different institutions.

We have also observed remarkable change in personality frait and character of our students.

Problems Encountered We have been facing the following major constraints :

a. Most of our students come from rural and educationally neglected area. b. Some of our boys and girls belong to economically weaker sections. c. Participation of fewer number of girl students. d. Resource crunch :- in managing and maintaining Communicative English classes

properly. Resources required

a. Separate wing for smooth running of Communicative English classes. b. E-learning resources. c. Arrangement of sufficient number of books, magazines & English newspapers. d. Book shelf for proper upkeep of books & periodicals. e. Financial assistance for maintaining office expenses & stationery items.

SECOND PRACTICE COMMUNICATIVE DEVELOPMENT : Our moral obligation and duty towards society. GOAL

To fulfil the basic tenets of Directive Principles of State Policy and dreams of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and others

To generate opportunity and resources for upliftment of all sections of society, especially weaker sections.

To initiate measures in order to bridge the gap between the haves & haves not of the society and make the deprived sections economically self-sufficient.

To apprise the members of the community about their rights and responsibilities.

To create awareness about environment and human rights & social evils like untouchability, dowry, caste and religion, gender bias etc.

To train them about self employment, health care & sanitation, water management, disaster management and management in cases of floods, earthquackes, outbreak of fires etc

Women literacy & empowerment programmes

To promote awareness about different welfare schemes of the central/state govt. such as Immunization, Pulse Polio Campaign, Education at your Door etc

Measures to apprise about traffic rules and safe plying of vehicles

To promote affordable housing The context

The community development task that we have undertaken on a regular basis involves various activities connected with improving the life, habits, practices, skill development and empowerment of the community. As such we have been facing the most formidable task of creating awareness amongst the citizens about the fruits of our different campaigns. Thus educating people with a view to empowering them and seeking them to he endowed with the skills they genuinely need in order to effect change in their community has remained the core aspect of our strategy. We have also tried our best to inculcate a sense of discipline, build confidence and also to evolve a set of values and practices to finally reap the fruits of our endeavour.

The practice We have embarked upon a plan to target one aspect of our activity in each of our campaign in the chosen section of the citizenery. The basic thrust of our programme has been to alleviate the economic condition of the specific community, create congenial work conditions, prevent labour exodus, apprise the citizens about various governmental schemes and about their rights and obligations besides educating them not to work in hazardous work conditions. Our institution has also undertaken the stupendous task of educating the community members about the fruits of literacy amongst their children. They are motivated to send their children to govt. schools, avail books for their homes free of cost and enthuse their children to study at homes at least on the community level.

Page 68: B.Profile of the Affiliated /Constituent Collegerajendramishracollege.org/assets/2012/08/NAAC..pdf · 6. Source of funding: Government √ Grant-in-aid Self-financing Any other 7

Our community development drive includes eradication of social evils like untouchability, dowry system, distinctions of caste, colour and creed, foetal deaths, early marriage of a girl child and atrocities committed on women folk. We educate the citizens to desist from all the evil practices in order to kindle the hope of upliftment and development. One of the core areas of our community development programme has been to train the citizens about how they are supposed to act in eases of natural disaster like the earthquake, floods & how they must conserve water and natural resources for a congenial environmental condition. Evidence of success :

Skill development and self employment initiatives have alleviated the financial conditions of the community

The deprived sections of the society have become conscious of their rights and obligations

Labour exodus has been contained to a large extent

The evil trends of social evils have been checked in considerable measure

There is encouragement amongst children of the weaker sections about litracy and school education

Larger number of girls are attending schools and are becoming conscious about their integral roles in nation building.

We have also noticed awareness in the community members about immunization, voter awareness, gender bias and the fruits of Panchayati Raj institutions

Problems encountered & Resources required : Problems :-

Use of drinks by men and conflict in family life

Hazardous living conditions – both in urban and rural areas
