What is the behavior management?

How should be the behavior management?

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

Behavior management focuses on changing behavior.

There are a lot of techniques for a problem-free class.

Applying these techniques should prevent student misbehaviors.

Some parent’s bad opinion about the school

Students age need to rebel and get attention.

Boring and irrelevant lesson

Parental divorce

rebel: a person who resists any authority , control, or tradition. (asi)

CAUSES OF STUDENT MISBEHAVIOR

Too authoritarian or too lacks on discipline

Relationship between students and school success

Curriculum-Not attractive to the student, they may misbehavior-Not remove difficult lessons, but make them interesting

lack: something missing or needed( eksik)

WHAT CAN WE DO?

For the good functioning of the course:

-it is necessary to focus on its incorrect behavior, NOT student.

-If a child show incorrect behavior, teacher should talk about it after the lesson.

-Teacher should not show overreact.

-Everyone during the class teacher should not impair the course and should speak minimum angrily.

Other methods;

While teacher give a lesson, if a student show misbehavior

-Teacher should ignore some little behavior.

-If teacher interest every behavior, teacher disrupt the climate of the class. So, students see authoritarian teacher.

There are two kinds of stimulant:

PositiveStimulant

Give smiles

Give stars

Praise

Award

NegativeStimulant

In the class vocal

stimulate

Remove from class

Getting the stars

Schools should have certain principles and rules.

The rules are from school not teacher.

The rules should hang on the wall.

WHOLE-SCHOOL BEHAVIOR POLICIES

Use indoor voices at all times.

Listen to others.

Always do your best.

Listen to and respect other students

Don’t run in the corridors.

An example of whole-school rules are:

USING REWARDS AND PUNISHMENT

Rewards Reinforce the behavior

Punishments Deter the behavior

Teacher should decide to which behavior s/he should reward or punishment.

There are a number of rewards:

① Using praise in classroom.

②Teacher can also use specific rewards such as giving badges, sweets, happy faces, honour rolls…

Firstly, teacher should give verbal warning, secondly going on to more serious punishment.

In general, research has found that punishment is less effective than praise in most cases.

Punishment can lead to aggressive or violent reactions from students.

If a student show misbehavior, teacher should:

① approach him/her

② make eye contact with student

③ tell the student’s name

④ stimulate more seriously, if student continues still.

⑤ punish the student if necessary

Therefore, while punishment is sometimes necessary, it should be used as a last resort.

An important aspect of effective use of rewards and punishment is that teacher should be consistent. Otherwise, students get worse.
