The August BVS WOMEN’S CLUB LUNCHEON “Get a New Leash on Life”was a huge success. We dedicated our theme to the animal kingdom and celebrated with frisky animal masks,

Hello, my name is and I’ve been asked to coordinate communication about ideas and efforts Chris DeArmond

to improve the Bear Valley Springs Dog Park. A new Facebook page, , is for anyone in Bear Valley Springs Bear Valley Dog Park Palswho uses or plans to use the Dog Park near Cub Lake. We need ideas on what needs to be done to improve the park, so feel free to write your thoughts on that on this page. Whatever ideas we come up with, we’ll need to talk about fund-raising and related efforts to make the Dog Park better for everyone. This page is just a start, so please share this with anyone you know in Bear Valley Springs who might be interested. Also, we need suggestions for a late afternoon social get-together at Cub Lake so we can generate more

ideas — and let the dogs meet and greet and wag! Thanks, and here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/DogParkPals

The Service Road adjacent to the Fire Station is a PRIVATE SERVICE ROAD. Many people are using this area to park, hike, run dogs off leash and as another access to Cub Lake and the Dog Park.

DO NOT TRESPASS on this road. You can be cited if you are trespassing on this property. Thank you for your cooperation.

Oh no! You didn’t miss the Deep Pit-Bar-B-Q did you? Everyone goes to the Deep Pit Bar-B-Q because all that yummy beef, pork,

turkey, all the fixin’s and all free beverages is too much to pass up. Of course, that was all free to members. That’s just one of many perks to joining the Sportsman’s Club. Many thanks to all the volunteers who help make this such a success every year.

Your dedication and commitment are tremendously appreciated. SEPTEMBER 10

The drawing for the 3 day- 2 night St. George, Utah package will be held on Labor Day at the Oak Tree Pro Shop. Again, the BVSVA would like to thank our golf pro, Duane Gore, and Maurice Gubler, who donated the package, for this opportunity. Tickets are still

available and will be up to the drawing ($5.00 each or 3 for $10.00). All the money will be donated to the BVSVA for veterans in need.

This past Saturday the BVSVA was one of the hosts for the Honor Flight breakfast at St. Malachy. All veterans are invited and the breakfast is held on the last Saturday of each month. Veterans eat free and non-veterans are asked to donate $5.00. It is amazing

to hear the history that each table presents. Mark September 24th on your calendar and join us. Breakfast is served at 0900. Reminder, Saturday Bingo will be moving from the second Saturday to the first Saturday beginning in September.

We hope to see you at the Whiting Center on September 3rd. The first game starts at 1:00 PM. The monthly meeting of the BVSVA will be Tuesday, September 13th. We start at 6:30 PM (1830) and end at 7:30 PM. If you have earned the title of “veteran”, come and share your experiences with your fellow veterans. Membership is open to all BVS veterans

who served honorably in any branch of service. Your DD214 is all that is required. Contact Paul Tate for further information at 661-972-5985.

Calling all equine enthusiasts! The United States Pony Club is an international organization that teaches children (and now adults) riding, mounted sports, and horse management. Historically, Pony Club has focused on the young English rider, but has recently expanded to include the Western

discipline as well. Whether one enjoys trail riding on a backyard horse or has Olympic aspirations, Pony Club is dedicated to developing well-rounded horsemen and women in both riding and caring for their mounts. Children must be at least five years old and have access to their own pony or horse.

Adults in the Horsemasters program will expand their current knowledge and skills. For more information regarding our BVS Pony Club, please contact Debbie Swarens at 661-825-5042 or Gary Yettner at 818-415-1222.

The Bear Valley Buckaroos is the club for you if you enjoy horses, friendly people, and having a good time in the outdoors. The Buckaroos host equestrian playdays, team sorting, training sessions, clinics, and fundraising events throughout the year. We’d love to have you as a member,

whether you want to compete, volunteer, or be a spectator at any of our events, you are welcome.Playdays are a series of fun events intended for riders of all ages that test the skills of both horse and rider. Playdays are held on the second Saturday

of each month, May to September at the Bear Valley Equestrian Center. Points are awarded at each event and awards are presented at a party following the final playday of the season. The play days are also a great spectator event, watching the enthusiastic riders as they maneuver their

horses through each challenging test of skill. Team sorting is a competitive event during which two teammates on horseback try to move ten head of cattle through a small opening from one pen

to another. The cattle must be moved in numerical order with the starting number announced just as the team enters the pen. This is a fast paced event, since teams are competing to get the cattle sorted as quickly as possible within a 1 minute, 15 second time limit. The fastest teams earn both

money and points toward championship buckles at the end of the season. The competitions or “jackpots” are held on the third Sunday of each month, May to September. New and experienced riders are welcome and partners are chosen randomly, rather than being allowed to select their own teams. Regardless of the experience of the horse or rider, participants can build their team sorting skills during practice sessions held on each Wednesday and

Saturday afternoon, May through September, and during clinics and sessions with “Leppy” the mechanical cow. In addition, the Buckaroos sponsor other training events of interest to our members, such as cow clinics and sensory clinics.

Please feel free to contact any Board member for a membership application or further information. Or, check out our Facebook page at “Bear Valley Buckaroos”. The 2016 Buckaroos Board includes:

George McMackin, President ∙ Jeff Kermode, 1st VP ∙ Doug Slavin, 2nd VP ∙ Cathy Bradshaw, Treasurer ∙ Cheryl Ackerly, Secretary (661) 821-1116 (661) 343-7503 (661) 805-7707 (661) 300-0362 (661) 609-6113

Allies & Album Makers

An update on this friendly group is the time! We will be meeting the 3rd weekend but only from 1pm to 4pm on Saturdays. Sunday afternoons

are also available after church from 1pm to 5pm. Our goals are to tell our stories, and create beautiful albums full of those stories, photos and

memorabilia. If you need to organize those boxes of photos under the bed, we will help you do that also. Just give Julie Amstutz a call and hear

how you can make a beautiful keepsake. Her number is 821-9000.

What is PICKLEBALL? What is the rage about this sport nationwide? It is an addiction to be sure!!! I moved to BVS a little over a year ago. In February, I went to the PICKLEBALL courts

in back of the tennis courts and met amazing, fun, lively people who play an absolutely fun court game.

*The court is small but like a tennis court *The paddle is solid, like a ping pong paddle but larger

*The ball is a whiffle ball, so it is light *This sport is challenging but easy and easier on your body then many other sports

*Inside during bad weather (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 12-2 at the Whiting Center) *Outdoors courts year round in nice weather (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 9-11)

*They have National Championships each year and two of our players went to Arizona to participate *We play doubles so there are four people on each of the two outdoor courts with others rotating in

*Several of us have extra paddles so if you want to try this game, come join us and decide for yourself if you wish to get your own paddle. I can say from personal experience that if you love to be active and enjoy the company of great people, come play PICKLEBALL.

I love this game. Some of you will too!!! See you at the Whiting Center or the Courts!!!

The objective of this organization is to provide an opportunity for good fellowship while encouraging the residents of Bear Valley Springs to become

interested in the preservation and promotion of this community's historical past. Primary concern shall be the preservation of the old Bear Valley
