First UMC Alcoa Vision
Inspired by God’s unconditional love, we unite in worship, grow in discipleship, and serve in love.
A Word From Pastor Todd...
Be Ye ThankfulPsalm 100:1-5 (NIV)1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheepof his pasture.4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithful-ness continues through all generations.
The Psalmist reminds us to be thankful. As we enter into this season of Thanksgiving, let us remember the One who gives all goodness.
This time of the year many families, friends, and loved ones gather to celebrate the good God gives us to enjoy. This year, as you gather to give thanks, remember the One who acts on our behalf, the One who loves us unconditionally, and the One who loves us just because he does.
Liz and I praise God for our church family at Alcoa First United Methodist Church and this year we will be so thankful to God for you all. See you all on Sunday as we give thanks to God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Blessings,
Todd

Fall Church Report
The Finance Committee and Church Council would like to share exciting information with our Church congregation:
· For the first time in several years, we have adopted a budget for the new church year prior to commencement of the new year.
· No cuts had to be made in the budget.
· Average attendance for the third quarter is up 34% the first quarter (an average of 70 per week).
· Our conference and district apportionments are being paid.
· In October we received over $79,000 for the operating budget, more than $20,000 more than the next highest month for this year.
· That October figure does not include electronic giving, which means the amount will be even larger.
· On pledge Sunday, we received 55 pledges, nine more than the total received last year, and that does not include pledges from 15 giving units who pledged last year. As additional pledges come in, we could very well receive 65% to 75% of our bud-get in pledges, a phenomenal response from our congregation.
As we continue to seek God’s will for our church,
the future is bright for Alcoa First United Methodist Church!

LCAC Wall of Peanut Butter
Nehemiah 6:15-19
What an AWESOME church family we have at Alcoa 1st UMC! What start-ed out as a single act of charity and kindness, turned out to be an incredible blessing for an entire community. Hundreds of families will receive a true miracle of God. We are so blessed to have been the hands and feet of Jesus in our communi-ty. There are many families, in and around our community, that are in great need. Many of us are so very fortunate to have food every day, a place to rest and feel safe, and a steady income. Unfortunately, there are a lot of both 2-par-ent and single parent homes that struggle to make ends meet. They must make a choice with what little income they have, so there are times when food is sacrificed for shelter or transportation. God placed this ministry opportunity at our feet, to supply a wall of peanut butter so that children and families would not go hungry. It may seem hard to believe, but even in our little community there are those who may go days without a meal. At Alcoa 1st, God said, “Feed my sheep!”, and you responded in a big way. In John 21, after Christ’s resurrection, Jesus was having breakfast with the disciples. Jesus presses Peter 3 times saying, “Do you love me?”. Though Jesus was emphasizing the importance of Peter’s love and unswerving obe-dience, as it would now be Peter’s ministry to shepherd and care for those who belong to Christ. We all belong to God. He created each an everyone and he loves each and every one of us. He does not say that we get to choose who to love, but to love everyone. That is what you did, you loved on those in need in our community. Blessings to all who helped build that wall. You loved on God’s sheep.
Alcoa First
General Missions Moments
Hello Church! We know it has been a few months since the General Missions Committee has provided a status on missions. First, we apologize for not communicating as well as we need to, but rest assured, we will do a better job going forward.
We realize that keeping the church informed on what is happening in missions is very important to the life of mis-sions and the life of our church. Here at Alcoa First, the committee is responsible for supporting the selected missions prayerfully and financially. For those that are not aware, Alcoa First UMC supports a variety of missions ministries. The following are the missions that the committee oversees:
· Louisville Christian Assistance Center
· Allison Neubert – Campus Outreach, University of Memphis
· Sharon & Graham Nichols – Ecuador
· The Willis Family – China
· Sharon and Lynn Fogleman – Uganda and South Sudan
· Henderson Settlement – Frakes, Kentucky
Each year, the General Missions Committee reviews support request applications and selects those missions which best represents “The Great Commission” given by Christ in Matthew 28:18-20. It is then our task to communicate with these missions and support them in prayer, in sharing their ministry and supporting them financially.
Going forward, the General Missions Committee will be communicating the status of the various missions we sup-port via Sunday bulletin inserts, the Missions Boards in the hall outside the narthex, through website updates and the monthly newsletter. The newsletter will contain a “Missions Moment” section and will focus on one of our missions. Twice a year there will be a Mission Moment for each of our missions.
Each quarter, there will be an update on financial support and distribution. Our current financial support commitment to each mission is $4,000 annually. We send quarterly support of $1,000 to each mission. We have met our first two quarter obligations, but we are behind by $1,020 for the third quarter.
If you wish to financially support General Missions, please mark your donations for “General Missions” and place in the offering plate or give to the church office. Very soon there will be an opportunity to more formally financially sup-port General Missions. Details will follow in future updates.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Alcoa First Missions. Your faithfulness and support are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions/concerns or something you’d like to see included in the “Mission’s Moment” section, please feel free to send an email or write, in a letter, and deliver to the church office. Currently, please send emails to: [email protected]. In our next mission moment, we will provide an email address for Alcoa Missions.
Blessings,
Your General Missions Committee
Mission Trip 2020
Fundraiser and News
It is a little crazy to think of, but May 2020 is just around the corner and it will be our 5th mission trip to Santo Domingo, Ecuador. We are so excited that we will once again travel to the middle of the world to worship and fellowship with Sharon & Gra-ham Nichols and all those little people of Ecuador.
The Ecuador mission team is planning a fundraiser for Sunday, November 10th. We are preparing for a Chili & Fixins and Cornhole Tournament. Our last cornhole tournament was a blast, so we decided to bring it back once again. So, form a team and start practicing!!!
We are still working on prizes for the Top 3 Teams along with some snappy door prizes. The sign-up forms for Cornhole Teams will be in the Sunday Bulletins begin-ning Sunday, Oct 20th. There is a $20 entry fee per team. We would like to have as many teams as we can get.
Last tournament winners were Emmit Rawls and Lenny Jucket! Who out there feels lucky!!! These guys went toe-to-toe with the younger teams and “Out Witted, Out Lasted and Out Played” all opponents. Who knew that the “old-timers” were the team to beat!!!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars as the next mission trip to Ecuador is scheduled for May 22-29, 2020. The team is forming now, if you are interested in joining the team in 2020, please contact Allen Garrett ([email protected], cell (865) 414-3935). There is limited space, so don’t delay.
