    THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING I: Proverbs 9:1-6 Sit Wisdom has built herself a house.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Psalm 67 “O God, let all the nations praise you!”

    COMMUNION HYMN

The Communion Hymn continues on the next page.

  • Outward Signs of the Sacrament of Confirmation

Distribution of Communion When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows

his/her head before the Sacrament, as a gesture of reverence. As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the

Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion.

In order to be properly disposed to receive Commun-ion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally will have fasted for one hour.

A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession, except for a grave reason where there is no

opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make a perfect act of contrition, including the intent of making a sacramental confession as

    soon as possible (Canon 916).

While the Priests are receiving the Body of Christ, the Communion Hymn begins. All continue singing the hymn until the last communicant receives Communion. When the distribution of Communion is over, the Deacon purifies the paten over the chalice and also the chalice itself.

READING II: Acts 19:1B-6A When Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Stand “Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom and cured every

    disease among the people.”

GOSPEL: John 6:51-58 I am the living bread which came down from heaven.

Deacon: The Lord be with you.

    People: And with your spirit.

Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

People: Glory to you, O Lord.

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon acclaims:

Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.

People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION The Assembly remains seated during the Rite of Confirmation.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

People: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

The Priests reverently consume the Body and Blood of Christ. After this, they take the paten or ciborium and approach the communicants. The Priests raise a host slightly and show it to each of the communicants:

    Priest: The Body of Christ.

    People: Amen.

    THE LORD’S PRAYER Stand

Presider: At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Presider: Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours now and for ever.

Presider: Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.
