Purpose
Bannon Creek Elementary School, in partnership with its children, families, community and NUSD, creates a learning community that uses common core curriculum and technology, guided by data, to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
Bannon Creek is committed to providing a nurturing environment through positive supportive interactions using character and social emotional skills development.
Together, students, families, and staff build a safety net of support for each other. As we maximize our individual potentials, we can achieve our school wide goals. In the spirit of teamwork and responsibility we foster at Bannon Creek, we do WHATEVER IT TAKES!
Mission
Our Bannon Creek community believes that all children can learn. We do Whatever It Takes to nurture, educate, and challenge our students. The academic progress of each learner is measured using district and state assessments, which are shared with families through consistent communication. Interventions and enrichment strategies are provided for students performing below and above grade level standards. Ongoing instruction in social and emotional skills development and regular celebrations of students success, create an environment that fosters appreciation for learning and cultural diversity. It is our mission to empower students to successfully approach life’s transitions and challenges.

Absences Call the office staff at 567-5600 to report all absences.
● All absences must be cleared within 3 days
It is important that children be trained to be punctual and regular in attendance beginning with the first day of school. Parents who encourage their child/children to arrive to school on time, attend school each day, and remain the full day will encourage a positive learning experience for their child.
● Monthly Celebrations to support perfect attendance. ● Perfect Attendance = present everyday with no tardies and remain the full day.
The State of California has set up certain requirements regarding attendance. Each student and their parents are held responsible for meeting these requirements. The State requires each student to be in school unless their absence is excused. ABSENCES EXCUSED FOR JUSTIFIABLE REASONS: A student shall be excused from school for justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, illness, medical or counseling appointments, an appearance in court, observance of a holiday or ceremony of his/her religion, attendance at religious retreats or an employment conference, when the pupil’s absence has been requested in writing by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal or designated representative. Students absent under this section are allowed to make up assignments and tests missed during the absence (E.C. 48205).
8
Unexcused Absences Unexcused absences include:
● Visiting relatives and friends
● Having guests from out of town
● Oversleeping
● Bad weather

9
absences will be unexcused
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD (SARB)
One of the options listed on the student referral form is "Referral to SARB." The main responsibility of the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) is to promote good school attendance and behavior through the use of alternatives to the Juvenile Court system. This process brings together parents, students, school personnel and community agencies to help solve student attendance and/or behavior problems. The SARB coordinates community services and designs remedies for students under school authority, or who are in danger of becoming habitually truant, irregular in attendance, insubordinate, disorderly, or who have exhausted the school's resources. It is within the jurisdiction of SARB to ask that petitions be filed on behalf of minors in the County Juvenile Court if--
● SARB determines that available public and private services are insufficient or inappropriate to correct the insubordination or habitual truancy of a minor
● The minor does not follow SARB's directions or use the services provided ● The action of the Juvenile Court will result in the student's improved attendance or
behavior
A student must be in school to learn. In addition, punctuality and good attendance are attributes that lead to successful performance in all walks of life. The Natomas Unified School District will follow these procedures to ensure that attendance and punctuality are encouraged on all of its campuses.
● The office staff or classroom teacher will verify each student absence. ● On the third unexcused absence or tardy of 30 minutes or more (or combination of
tardy and absence) a "notification of truancy" letter will be sent to the parent/guardian. ● On the fourth unexcused absence or tardy of 30 minutes or more (or combination), a
second "notification of truancy" letter will be sent. A site level SARB meeting will be scheduled when reasonable.
● On the fifth unexcused absence or tardy of 30 minutes or more (or combination), another "notice of truancy" letter will be sent. A District-level School Attendance Review Board meeting will be scheduled.
● If the contract of the District S.A.R.B. meeting is not upheld, the case will be referred to the North Area School Attendance Review Board.

Student Health Information & Immunizations
The district nurse helps identify health problems which might impact a child's learning. A Pure Tone Audiometer test for hearing acuity and a Snellen Test for visual acuity are administered in school at specified grade levels. Working closely with our office staff benefits your child's health and the general well-being of the entire school population. Natomas Unified students will not be able to attend class when school starts Aug. 9 unless they have current immunizations, obtain a medical exemption, or have a personal belief exemption on file and are not advancing this year to Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten or 7th grade. A new state law, effective Jan. 1, 2017, eliminated the parental option of exempting their children on the basis that they hold a personal belief against legally required immunizations. The law was aimed at guarding against the spread of serious diseases. Existing personal belief exemptions on file at schools will be honored, however, until the child advances to the next grade span, which means Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten or 7th grade. What immunizations does the state require? Please see NUSD’s website for a list of immunizations required by the state. Medications
Do not send medication to school with your child. These include:
● Cough drops
● Medicated creams and ointments
● Pain relievers

● We must have a Doctor’s Authorization Form filled out by physician ● Request to Administer Medication form filled out by parent ● Medication must be received in a labeled prescription container with appropriate
directions for administration o Pharmacies can split a prescription between two bottles for home and school use
California State Education Code Section 11753.1:
"Any pupil who is required to take, during the regular school day, medication prescribed for him/her by a physician may be assisted by the school nurse or other designated school personnel" if the school district receives the necessary forms completed by the parents or

1. There is a line that divides the court in half. Each player must stay in his or her own half of the court the whole time. Stepping on or crossing the line is a foul.
2. The two players decide who serves. The other gets to decide which side and which way they are hitting.
3. The server starts the game by striking the ball with their hand or fist in the direction that was chosen. The server cannot hit it again during that serve until their opponent has touched the ball.
4. The server may continue to strike the ball after the first swing, and his or her opponent tries to hit the ball in the opposite direction, both trying to wind the ball completely around the pole.
5. The player who does this wins the game. The next challenger coming in has their choice of serving or choosing the side and which direction they are hitting.
Fouls that put a player OUT:
1. Hitting the ball with any part of the body other than the hands or forearms 2. Stopping continuous play by holding, catching, or blocking the ball directly in front of the
opponent with his or her hand 3. Touching the pole with any part of your body 4. Hitting the rope with your forearm or hands 5. Stepping into your opponents court or on the line 6. Double hitting in your court area 7. Throwing the ball
The game stops when a foul is committed. Show good sportsmanship and honesty by stopping when you know you have committed a foul. Don’t wait for your opponent to call you on it. Stop the swing of the ball immediately and go to the end of the waiting line.

Wall Ball Rules 2 or 3 players The game starts by the first person in line serving the ball by first bouncing it on the blacktop and then hitting the wall. In turn, each player takes turns hitting the ball on the blacktop and against the wall after it has bounced once on the blacktop after coming off the wall. (One hit, one bounce) The next person in line is the judge. Children are OUT if: 1. The ball hits the blacktop twice before the opposite player has a
chance to hit the ball. 2. When a player hits the ball and it does not reach the wall. 3. If the ball misses the wall by going over or to the side of the
wall. (The person who hit it must get it.) 4. The ball lands outside of the playing line on the first bounce. 5. If a player cannot reach the ball because of interference by the
children in line it is a play over. If a player cannot reach the ball because of interference of the opposing player the opposing player is out.
Consequences for Breaking Rules
1. Verbal reminder (“go back and do it the right way, please”).
2. Lose their right to use the particular equipment for remainder of recess.
3. Time out against the wall for 1-5 minutes. (Students may stand on a dot outside the
bathroom)
4. Behavior citations.

Bicycle Rules
● Because of the amount of traffic in and around the school and the high level of
judgment and skill required to operate a bicycle safely...we recommend that students
in grades K, 1, 2 NOT ride their bicycles to school.
● Students who do ride their bicycle to school are expected to lock their bicycles to one
of the school racks with a suitable cable or chain and lock. Lock the bicycle through the
frame and at least one wheel to stop someone from simply removing a locked wheel
and taking the bicycle.
● All bicycles MUST BE PARKED in the bicycle area. The only time a student should be
near the bicycle parking area is when he/she is parking or removing his/her own
bicycle. Students riding bicycles to school MUST obey regular traffic rules or the
privilege of bringing a bicycle to the school may be revoked.
● ALL BIKE RIDERS SHOULD ENTER AND EXIT THROUGH THE DRIVEWAY CLOSEST TO THE
BIKE RACK AREA. Students must walk their bikes when reaching the school sidewalks or
playground.
● California State Law requires that all persons under 18 wear a bicycle helmet whenever
riding a bike. Please put your name on your helmet. If you do not have a helmet, see
the principal.
