The Romanians from the Serbian Banat (“Banatul Sârbesc” - the Western Banat, now part of Serbia) live in

so called “sate de frătuţi” (brotherly villages): Alibunar, Barite, Becicherecul Mare, Cuvin, Ecica, Marghita,

Nicolinţi, Seleuş, Sutiesca, Toracul mare & Toracul Mic (or Begheiţii), Uzdin, Vladimirovăţ).

There are typical costumes of the Banat Plain Area: Timişoara, Buziaş, Deta-Ciacova, Lipova, Făget, Jebel,

Lugoj, Sânnicolau Mare.

Men’s costumes from Banat have some common elements. During summer, men used to wear cotton trousers and

large, un-tucked shirts.

Women’s folk costumes have a main feature: two aprons, one or both with fringes.
