WHAT IS ISO 14001 ? Series of international standard for environmental management
system (EMS)
Voluntary standards, to establish and objectively evaluate EMS.
Process standard and not the performance standard.
Does not establish a set of quantitative targets for environmentalperformance or specific pollution discharge levels.
Provides standardized and internationally recognized blue print
for effective EMS.
Provides frame for setting and establishing EMS.
ISO 14001 can be used by organisations to initiate or improveenvironmental management system or for third party
certification.
There is also provision of self declaration of conformance to ISO
14001 requirements.
