See PowerPoint Questions
Pia: What are the breakdowns for the budget o The amounts for student contributions come from the students from
UBC paying to go, the alumni and business professionals are paying
100% of their travel and not receiving anything in return. The fundraising efforts are efforts the students have put in. Business
Contributions are contributions of the community, and the majority will be going towards the business ideas generation
o For fundraising – Raised money through Japadog, a club night at
Venue Dylan: What can the people do who attend the conference
o People can develop their ideas into business plans Johannes: What are the key methods you are using to figure out if you`ve
been successful and what plans do you have going forward
o We won`t be asking the participants for money (participants in Africa), we can now demonstrate from last year what happened through the
business plans. This summer we hope to do exit video interviews. To me, the level of success is built on the relationships.
o For BorneWise: We hope to get workshops in the community, so if they learn something and then they can teach these skills to others.
Prina: How much was asked last year and how do we foresee this initiative
getting on its own feet o Last year was $6500, this year it`s bigger because we have two
locations. The sustainability of the alumni is infinite. I would like to see this become something that Sauder aids in. We would have to scale this if we didn`t have the CUS money.
Johannes: As the program expands, do you see other partners coming on board
o I don`t see it as a linear expansion. Connor: How are you making sure that Sauder students are gaining value
o Bringing cases back for students, providing discussion amongst
students and giving students different perspectives, this year this affects 20 students , this project brings alumni and students together,
building the Sauder student brand, a larger investment is on future opportunities
Moses: How big do you want the project to get
Commerce Undergraduate Society| www.cusonline.ca
o If we had two locations in Africa that had about 5-10 students and maybe a location in Asia, I think that would be fantastic
o We are partnering with Go Global, so there is a lot of training they are providing
Chad: You want to build the Sauder and CUS brand, these are indirect benefits, however the people in the program benefit directly. What is the direct impact to the Sauder School of Business
o We can bring the issues and what we learned back to Sauder, create cases, they can foster the knowledge we gained
o We want to include the work we are going to do there and include in the classroom, there are a lot of possibilities going forward
o We are all students who can implement these things
o Thato: We have an opportunity to differentiate ourselves from other business schools in Canada
Moses: You are in second, third and fourth year and you say you will
continue to be engaged in this project
o The students last year are still very involved and engaged
Discussions: Enzo: How accessible is this for students at large, in terms of cost of the
program
o The CUS would pay about 6% of our costs, for each of us to go it`s a little over $6,000
Chad: They are requesting $17,500 I am concerned how much they are giving to each student.
o Ten students are going, but there are additional student at Sauder
Paulina: We are not providing the students to go, we are sponsoring the conference. This is potentially sponsoring charity. However, this can drive
students interested in social entrepreneurship to come to Sauder Daria: I think this is a great initiative and it makes our school more
international. More students will be inspired in the school to make a
difference Paulina: Is this our budget or next year budgets
Pia: we can vote to pass a recommendation Chad: They can make a recommendation to us, then we can approve it Prina: Why aren`t we considering the contributed surplus
o There is a precedent is that it should be used for long term capital projects,
Chad: We could take money out of the contributed surplus, and then next year the new board could put the money back into the contributed surplus
out of their budget. Pia: Why don`t we vote on what happens on this fiscal year. They don`t
make any payments until after April 30th

Proposed Jobs – Dylan

Tim: Can you ensure that responsibilities aren`t minimal. Looking at the
main responsibilities, if you had to narrow the job down to main responsibilities, what would those be
o Deal with programs and curriculum (Program reform such as Comm101 and merging HR and OB)
o Do a lot of research into the position
o So to summarize: Course reform and research Lucas: What will be your new responsibilities
o This won`t change my responsibilities, it will just let me focus more on certain initiatives
Veronica: I think the CUS should work towards continuity and turnover, do
you see the AVP as someone who would be taking on VP Academic o Yes, they would be very prepared for that role
Connor: The VP Academic role is not the most strenuous role on the exec, so why should you have a VP Associate, including the oversight of a new Dean.
o I did not know there was a committee to choose a new Dean
o I can`t do all the goals and opportunities that I have set out this year without a VP Academic
Connor: I don`t agree with this Jeff: I think when we go to the administration; we want to have hard
evidence and research from the student body. I think to more in that
direction, it would help. Moses: I can understand how having someone this year would be effective,
but maybe not have this as an official CUS position o It will push the VP Academic to get things done
Laura: How does this differ from the position that wasn`t passed
o Jeff: Chris introduced it last year and it wasn`t passed because there wouldn`t be enough tangible objectives. I think there would be value
in a position like this. Jesse: A lot of VP`s have committees so why can`t you hire a committee
o I would rather hire one individual Chad: Do you feel you would have more work done by an associate VP rather
than executive assistant
Commerce Undergraduate Society| www.cusonline.ca
o Yes I think an associate would get more done Connor: I think an informal committee would be good, but I disagree with
the idea of an associative vice president Johannes: Working with a committee is less effective than an Associative
Vice President Chad: During the referendum consultations, you were in favour with the
Associative VP position. We have three older VP Academics, and all three of
them believe this position would be valuable Jesse: Don`t agree with this because three VP Academic`s believe in the
position All in favour of introducing the Associate Vice President Academic as a permanent
CUS position under the student council Favour:12

Proposed Job – Chris – Retail Operations Management
See Job description Lucas: Can we get students involved in designing the T-shirts Chad: The idea to put everything in the bookstore was to increase sales, but
we have been unhappy about those sales. Chris: I have a ton of experience in retail
Johannes: This is a centralized place for students to get swag Prina: Is the store going to be affordable
o Connor: Saskatchewan buys it all at cost and sells it at cost. They set
up a booth and have a pre-ordering station

We need a motion to pass the statement from the CUS Dylan: I think we have waited too long to send out the message Laura: I heard a lot of feedback when it first came out and now everyone has
forgotten about it Moses: I agree, but now it`s done
Negar: Just because they aren`t talking doesn`t mean it`s gone away Chad: Something needs to go out there, so maybe we should talk more
about the CUS`s role is with the building
Connor: Let`s post it on the website and just leave it Tim: The purpose isn`t to make aware every student, it`s simply to just
