It seems as though this school year has just begun and yet, once again, we find ourselves at the end.

How quickly time flies! May was a very busy month, with many different activities taking place. We

had the chance to welcome some of our newest families to the school at our Welcome to Kindergar-

ten Evening, students competed in our School Track and Field Days, and our Grade 5 and 8 students

had the chance to extend their learning through overnight learning opportunities. In June, we look for-

ward to our school performance of The Magical World of Disney on Wednesday June 7 th as well as

our School Spring Fair on the 8th. We are also excited for our Grade 8 graduation ceremonies taking

place on the evening of June 19th.

Our School Council has worked diligently all year to support our school goals and to ensure the suc-

cess of school events. They have been successful in raising funds to support our school, as well as rais-

ing spirits and ensuring a strong school community. Thank you for always keeping the students at the

heart of your decisions!

On behalf of the staff, we would like to thank you for supporting your child’s education by being in-

volved. Your partnership and support is invaluable to us, and we thank you for all that you do to sup-

port us in working for our students.

Report Cards will come home on Tuesday, June 27th. Please be sure to sign and re-

turn the tear-off portion of the Report Card with your child by the last day of school,

Thursday, June 29th. The final day of school will be a half day and students will be dis-

Trustee Greeting

As we near the end of the school year, I want to thank you for all that you do to strengthen our schools and communi-

ties. This is a good time to celebrate your child’s achievements over the past year.

One of our goals in the Trustees’ Multi-Year Plan is to “continuously increase student achievement and well-being

through a culture and caring and learning.” That includes a culture that emphasizes engagement and positive relationships

among all the members of the school community – students, staff members, families and community members.

You, as parents/guardians, are our most important partners when it comes to education. The support you have provided

to your child throughout this past school year will help to strengthen our schools and make a difference to your child’s

learning.

I encourage you to continue engaging your child in learning throughout the sum-

mer, and to help them to see the connections between what they are learning in

school and the world around them. There are so many opportunities to do this

over the summer, whether that’s planning a budget with your child, enjoying the

natural beauty in York Region, reading a book or visiting local sites. Whatever

your plans are this summer, I wish you all a successful end to the school year,

and a safe and enjoyable summer.

Important Bus Transportation Message

Re: Student Bussing Eligibility

Did you know that students’ bussing eligibility changes

throughout their school career? Your son/daughter’s eligi-

bility to ride the school bus may change according to their

grade and distance from home to school. Below are the

provisions for eligibility identified in the Board’s Transpor-

tation Policy #680: • All YRDSB students in Grades JK-3 who live within 1.2

km of their school are not eligible for transportation All YRDSB students in Grades 4-8 who live within

1.6 km of their school are not eligible for transpor-

tation All YRDSB students in Grades 9-12 who live within

a transit served area are not eligible for transporta-

tion.

To view Board Policy #680 Student Transportation, please

visit www.yrdsb.edu.on.ca. For more information about bus

transportation and to determine your son/daughter’s eligi-

bility please visit www.schoolbuscity.com.

Library Deadline

Please be sure to return all library books by Wednesday, June 21st.

Mrs. Nelson has posted overdue and lost book notices in all Junior and Intermediate classes. Just a reminder to Grade 8 students that you won’t be able to sign out ma-terials in high school until your elementary school library record is cleared.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful summer of reading! Be sure to take advantage of the wonderful summer reading program at the Aurora Public Library during your time off from school!

Reminder The next School

Council meeting will

take place in Septem-ber. Thank you for a

great year!

Jump Rope / Hoops for Heart Thank You! We are sending out a Highview High Five to our amazing Highview families. This year, our goal for the Heart and Stroke Jump Rope / Hoops for Heart event was $3,500. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $6,166!

Vulnerable Sector Screening for HPS Volunteers

As many of you may be aware, it is the policy of York Region District School Board for all volunteers in the school to

provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening to the office prior to commencing their volunteer work at the school.

We have been implementing this policy throughout the school year, and beginning in September we will need to more

strictly enforce the policy. A Vulnerable Sector Screening is a background check completed by the police.

This will be of particular importance for parents who are transporting students to sporting events.

If you plan on volunteering in the school next year and you have not already obtained a Vulnerable Sector Screening,

please click on the link below to reach York Regional Police’s website:

https://www.yrp.ca/en/services/vulnerable-sector-check.asp

Please note that you will need a letter from the office in order to apply for the Screening as noted on YRP’s website.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter!

As part of our board’s procedure, students will find out who their teacher will be on the first day of school in the fall. While we are finalizing our class placements for the fall, it is important to let us know if you will be moving out of our area or if your child will be attending a new school in Sep-tember. If you are “on the move”, please ensure that you have shared this information directly with Mrs. Wilson. Thank you!

Class Placements Parent Requests for Information

During the summer months, all re-quests from parents for records and information related to CRA Tax Bene-fit applications, etc. will be handled by Community Education Centre - Central located at 317 Centre St. East, Richmond Hill. To reach CEC - Central

by phone, please call 905/884-4477.

Area Track & Field Meets

This is a reminder to all students participating in the Area Track & Field Meets at Dr. G. W. Williams S.S. taking place in June.

Junior Area Meet: Monday, June 12th Intermediate Area Meet: Tuesday, June 13th

Please bring plenty of water and be sure to wear sunscreen. Good luck to all the competi-tors!

Early Dismissal on June 29th

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take

part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating ac-

tivities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities

that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thurs-

day, June 29, 2017 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:35 a.m. Arrange-

ments will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will

receive transportation at this time. Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child

care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

We hope you have a wonderful summer! See you in September!

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found is overflowing! If your child has come home without a jacket, sweater, hoodie or

other article of clothing or perhaps is missing a lunch bag or water bottle, please come and take a look.

Anything that is not picked up by the end of June will be donated to a local charity.
