The Faculty recognizes the A&S Minor

Graduating students may be eligible to receive acknowledgement of an Arts and Science minor upon completion of its associated course requirements within specific disciplines (political science, cinema studies etc.). Information regarding minor requirements for each discipline may

be found in the Arts and Science Calendar. Students are advised that pursuing a self-initiated minor may extend their studies by a term or year in order to complete all program requirements.

Students must obtain documentation from the relevant department within the Faculty of Arts and Science so as to provide the Faculty with evidence that all requirements will have been completed by the time of graduation. Successful completion will result in the annotation of the students’ transcripts as to the completion of the minor.

Note: In some disciplines, the Faculty of Arts and Science has found it necessary to restrict enrolment in upper-level courses to their own students. Students planning to pursue minors

should consult the department concerned regarding the availability of courses. Core courses

required for completion of a BASc degree cannot be used to meet the requirements of a self-initiated minor.”

Course OverlapCore courses cannot be used for minor

HSS and CS can be used for minor

Free Electives, if A&S course, can be used for minor

Technical Electives?

At least 2.0 courses must be HSS/CS/Free or EXT

Credits that are not needed for your Engineering Degree will be designated as EXT’ra credits.

EXT’ra Credits are not included in the calculations of GPA, Sessional Averages, and Academic Standing

Consult your Engineering Program Counsellor if you have any questions in these areas.

Do not add an A&S SubjectPOSt on ROSI• Keep a record of any official communication that you have with the

Department

• You’re not formally enrolled in the minor

• ROSI will block you from enrolling in any A&S minor SubjectPOSt

• In the final 4W term, when you have completed all the requirements, please consult the Registrar’s Office. Please give us plenty of notice – web form

• Fill out the form on Engineering Registrar’s Office’s website by March 1 before graduation

How to work with the A&S Departments• Be professional• They don’t know about your Engineering program

or courses• Do the research… Give them a reason to say ‘yes’• You may be dealing with a Dept that has 3,000+

students• Carefully document all formal communications• Start an ‘Arts and Science Minor’ folder
