Workshops Sunday, November 12Workshops offer excellent opportunities to exchange ideas and learn about topics in-depth. Additional fee is required for workshops.
SUN01 Identification, Monitoring, and Treatment: Cyanobacteria and Cyanotoxins in Water Supply Systems 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. $295 member rate/$395 nonmember/student rate not available Limited to 40 attendees, located off-site.
Cyanobacteria in water have the potential to produce harmful toxins, which can cause adverse health effects in humans and animals. This workshop will provide participants with practical skills in identification of cyanobacteria, development of monitoring programs, current toxin testing procedures, and options for treatment strategies to control algal blooms and resultant toxins in water supplies.
SUN02 Building Water Safety Plans & Why They’re Needed: The Role of Public Water Suppliers in Legionella Control 8:00 a.m.–noon $110 member rate/$210 nonmember/$75 student rate
Building water quality is a newly-recognized public health concern. Water quality can decline rapidly because of stagnation, residual loss, temperature, etc. Legionnaires’ disease, the number one waterborne disease in the United States, results from poor water quality management in buildings. This workshop will cover these issues and provide hands-on exercises in how to develop a building water management plan.
SUN03 Distribution System Water Quality Best Management Practices 1:00–5:00 p.m. $110 member rate/$210 nonmember/$75 student rate
Distribution systems represent the last barrier available to water systems to maintain safe and high-quality water. AWWA's new manual of practice M68, Water Quality in Distribution Systems, presents common distribution system water quality challenges, summaries of response actions, and best practices as a "first stop" for drinking water systems and professionals. Presenters will provide overviews of different challenges, which will be followed by a problem-solving exercise. Attendees are encouraged to bring examples of their own or come up with hypothetical distribution challenges to see how M68 may help address them.
Exhibit Hall Education Sessions Monday 3:15–4:00 p.m. and Tuesday 9:45–10:30 a.m. FREEEarn CEUs by visiting participating exhibitor booths for 15 minute presentations regarding the latest tools and technology available for the water quality industry. Schedule will be available online in October.
Facility Tours Sunday, November 12 and Thursday, November 16 $55–$95/Register by October 14Visit awwa.org/wqtc for detailed tour descriptions, what to bring and other important information. Additional fee required for all tours.
