Tal y como esperábamos, los pronósticos turís-ticos para este año se están cumpliendo. algu-nos medios hablaban de una invasión de turis-tas extranjeros para este verano y, al cierre de la edición, las cifras sobre el turismo parecen
indicar que nos aproximamos a un nuevo récord de visitan-tes, que muy presumiblemente romperá la barrera de los 70 millones.
en Marina Greenwich también lo estamos notando, a pri-meros de julio ya teníamos una ocupación del 94% y duran-te el mes de agosto esperamos estar al 100%. Continuando con el compromiso de mejorar nuestras instalaciones, se encontrarán con la total remodelación de nuestros aseos situados en el espigón, con un mobiliario urbano nuevo y de diseño, y también con dos nuevos elementos de transporte, uno terrestre y otro marítimo. en cuanto a los comercios, ya se han puesto de gala para ofrecer sus mejores servicios durante estos meses.
ahora nos esperan, además del buen tiempo, multitud de fiestas y presentaciones que les sorprenderán, junto a un nu-trido número de eventos para disfrutar de la estación más alegre del año. Por último, les adelanto que desde este nú-mero que tienen en sus manos podrán disfrutar de dos nue-vas secciones, una dedicada a la moda y otra a la salud. ¡Que lo disfruten!
As we expected, the forecasts for tourism this year are being met. a lot of the media have spo-ken about an invasion of foreign tourists for this summer and, at the closing of this edition, the figures suggest that we are approaching a
new record of visitors and presumably the barrier of 70 mil-lion will be broken.
at Marina Greenwich we are also noticing this, at the be-ginning of July we already had an occupancy rate of 94% and during the month of August we hope to reach 100%. continuing with our commitment to keep improving our fa-cilities, the toilets located on the breakwater you will find completely renovated, with new urban benches of design and also two new items of transport, one terrestrial and the other maritime. as for the commercial area, they are all geared up and waiting to offer their best services during these months.
and waiting for us now, apart from the good weather, will be lots of parties and presentations that will surprise you, together with a large number of events to enjoy in the hap-piest season of the year. Finally, i would like to advance that in this number you will be able to enjoy two new sections, one dedicated to fashion and the other to health. Please enjoy yourselves!

Bon Appétit, Monsieur Robuchon!En el número pasado publicamos una deliciosa entrevista que tuvimos el honor de hacerle a Joël robuchon aprovechando su amor por este pedacito de la Costa Banca y sus estancias va-cacionales en Calpe. desde entonces seguimos sus pasos con sumo interés y por eso ahora nos hacemos eco del sentido y gustoso homenaje que le han hecho 18 chefs españoles en marbella.
El 18 al cuboel restaurante marbellí del chef Dani García, ubicado en el Hotel Puente romano, fue el privilegiado lugar donde se ce-lebró el homenaje gastronómico a Joël robuchon el pasado 18 de abril, que reunió a la flor y nata de los chefs del momen-to. inspirándose o versionando las creaciones del chef fran-cés, los 18 chefs crearon un menú de 18 platos de vida efí-mera, aunque algún cocinero se está planteando incluir en la oferta de su restaurante su plato tributo al chef galo. esta ha sido la tercera edición de “A 4 manos”, unas jornadas gastro-nómicas creadas por Dani García con el fin de celebrar reu-niones fraternales entre chefs (que en esta cita sumaban un
total de 71 estrellas Michelin), mejorar, ponerse al día y, de paso, reforzar su marca como chef y como grupo empresarial.
como no podía ser de otra forma, Joël robuchon se mostró muy conmovido por el gesto de Dani García y así se lo ma-nifestó públicamente. además comentó que le une una gran amistad con Ferran adrià, quién también asistió al evento aunque no cocinó, y reconoció que la primera vez que fue a elBulli sintió una emoción muy grande, pues fue una expe-

riencia que no se podía esperar. De adrià dice que tiene una visión gastronómica extraordinaria.
El homenaje18 chefs (36 manos) como líderes de una cena histórica, y si se suman sus equipos, alcanzaron una formación de 71 cocineros, 24 profesionales de sala, 86 comensales, 1.548 elaboraciones, unos 900 soportes nuevos para servir las re-cetas, 100 productos de tres continentes y tres partidas en dos cocinas. la cena duró casi tres horas. a buen ritmo, los platos fueron saliendo a la sala; cada comensal tenía como guía un libro con el listado de platos y su correspondiente inspiración en la cocina de robuchon. De los 18 platos, ocho estuvieron clasificados en torno a tres bloques temáticos (caviar, mar y crujiente).
algunos platos para el recuerdoJoan roca, apoyado en el imprescindible Hernán luchetti (jefe de cocina de el celler de can roca), bordó el ‘velouté’ de habas y guisantes con flan de ‘foie gras’, versión de ‘La velouté de fèves et flan de ‘foie gras’ de canard’ de robuchon. Quique Dacosta se atrevió a hacer un arroz para 86 co-mensales, que finalizaba a todo ritmo a pie de fogones justo en el momento previo a que su plato saliera a la sala, para presentar su arroz ‘Gleva’ con conejo, soja y caracoles en-tre hierbas secas y paja del Peñón de ifach, planteado como una “inspiración libre” de ‘Le soja / Les jeunes pousses cuites comme un risotto aux zestes de citron vert et ciboulette', receta del gran Joël. no fue el único en optar por la libertad: an-doni l. aduriz, acompañado de llorenç sagarra, eligió por un queso bautizado a medias con el nombre del chef galo: ‘Joël Candidum’, “versión libre” de ‘Le zéphyr de fromage au truffes noires’. Mientras, albert adrià presentó una joya dul-ce como conclusión de la épica cena: la tarta merengada de yuzu y remolacha, “versión libre” de ‘tarte friande de truffes aux oignons et lard fumé’. sucedió a un postre no menos inte-resante, elegante y clásico, firmado por ramón Freixa y su mano derecha, nacho agüeros: Frutas rojas al vino tinto, menta y chocolate, inspirado en la ‘soupe de fruits au vin rouge à la menthe’, de robuchon. Para valientes, uno: Josean alija, que, en su codorniz, foie gras, puré de patata, almendra y jugo de trigo, versionó ‘La caille caramélisée au ‘foie gras’ de canard avec au ponme purée’, con la osadía de realizar el puré de patata de robuchon, el absoluto ‘hit’ del francés. Por el lado emotivo, rodrigo de la calle, asesor del chef francés en los platos vegetales de las cartas de sus restaurantes, no cedió a la versión o la inspiración, sino que prefirió firmar un plato “para” Joël Robuchon: Empanadilla de kimchi y hoja de huacatay, receta que actualmente sirve en su restaurante, el invernadero.
estos son solo algunos de los 18 platos servidos durante esa histórica cena donde los grandes talentos gastronómicos españoles brillaron por su forma de trabajar y de compartir conocimientos, demostrando que el made in spain es más que sus estrellas y cualquier campaña de marketing.

Bon Appétit, Monsieur Robuchon!in our last edition we published a delicious interview that we had the honor to do with Joël robuchon, taking the advantage of his love for this little bit of the Costa Blanca and his holiday stays in Calpe. since then we have been following his steps with great interest and for this, we now want to make an echo with regard to the marvelous tribute that 18 spanish chefs gave to
him in marbella.

18 to the cubethe restaurant of Dani García in Marbella, located in the Hotel Puente romano, was the privileged place where the gastronomic homage to robuchon was held last april the 18th, which brought together la crème de la crème of chefs at this moment in time. contemporary interpretation and recreating the Frenchman’s most iconic dishes, these 18 lauded masters created a menu of 18 dishes short-lived, al-though some of the chefs are considering to include in their restaurant offer the dish of tribute to the French chef. this has been the third edition of "A 4 hands", a culinary event created by Dani in order to celebrate fraternal meetings be-tween chefs (which in this event amounted to a total of 71 Michelin stars), to improve, keep up-to-date and, at the same time, strengthen his mark as a chef and his business group.as it couldn’t be any other way, Joël robuchon was very moved by the gesture of Dani García which he expressed publicly. He also stated that he has a great friendship with Ferran adrià, who also attended the event but did not cook, and he recognized that the first time he went to the Bulli he felt an enormous emotion because it was an experience that he couldn’t wait for. He says that adrià has an extraordinary culinary vision.
The tribute18 chefs (36 hands) like leaders of a historical dinner, and if you count their teams, they reached a formation of 71 chefs, 24 professional waiters, 86 guests, 1,548 elaborations, some 900 new supports to serve the dishes, 100 products from three continents and three shipments in two kitchens. the dinner lasted nearly three hours. at a good rhythm, the dishes entered the dining room; each diner had a book to guide them with the list of dishes and corresponding in-spiration of the oringinal robuchon dish. of the 18 dishes, eight were classified into three thematic blocks (caviar, sea and crunchy).
some dishes to rememberJoan roca, together with his indispensable Hernán luch-etti (head chef at el celler de can roca), masterly executed the 'Velouté' of broad beans and peas with a flan of ‘foie gras’ version of 'La Velouté de fèves et flan de ‘foie gras’ de canard’ of robuchon. Quique Dacosta was daring and made a rice for 86 diners, that ended up in full rhythm with him at the foot of the stove just moments before the dish entered into the dining room to present his rice 'Gleva' with rabbit, soya and snails among dry herbs and straw from the rock of ifach,
created as a "free inspiration" of 'Le soja / Les jeunes pousses cuites comme un risotto aux zestes of citron vert et ciboulette’, a great Joël recipe. He wasn’t the only one who opted for liberty: andoni l. aduriz, accompanied by llorenç sagarra, chose a cheese half-baptized with the name of the French chef 'Joël candidum', "free version" of 'Le zéphyr de fromage au truffes noires'. While, albert adrià presented a sweet gem to conclude the epic dinner: striped yuzu and beetroot meringue pie, "free version" of 'tarte friande de truffes aux oignons et lard fumé'. after, came the no less interesting, el-egant and classic dessert, signed by ramón Freixa and his right hand man, nacho agüeros: red fruits in red wine, mint and chocolate, inspired by the 'soupe de fruits au vin rouge à la menthe' by robuchon. For the brave: Josean alija, who, with his Quail, foie gras, mashed potato, almond and wheat juice, adapted 'La caille caramélisée au foie gras de canard avec au ponme purée', taking the audacity to make the potato puree of robuchon, the absolute 'hit' of the Frenchman. on the emotional side, rodrigo de la calle, adviser to the French chef for his vegetable dishes on the menu of his restaurants, did not cede to the version or inspiration, but preferred to sign a dish "for" Joël robuchon: empanadilla of kimchi and huacatay leafs, a recipe that currently he serves in his res-taurant, el invernadero (the Greenhouse).
these are just a few of the 18 dishes served during the historical dinner where great spanish gastronomic talents shone for their way of working and sharing their knowledge, demonstrating that the so called made in spain is much more than their stars or any marketing campaign.

C omo ya publicamos en la edición anterior, Marina Greenwich fue uno de los escenarios protagonistas del rodaje del cortometraje 'ca-pricho mediterráneo'. Dicha producción fue presentada el 22 de mayo en el Palau altea, durante el evento 'Moda a escena', un original
espectáculo que reunió todas las artes escénicas: teatro, danza, música, baile y cine.
el evento comenzó con la proyección de 'capricho me-diterráneo', protagonizado por los actores españoles Fernando coronado, leticia torres y June velayos, y se simultaneó con escenas teatrales representadas por los mismos actores, piezas de música ejecutadas por el gran violinista Dimitri Hoffmann y la pianista lola smo-lokowski, y números de baile interpretados por un elen-co de bailarines y acróbatas profesionales de la comuni-dad valenciana. la trama del corto narra la estrategia del robo de un violín y fue rodado íntegramente en altea, ya
que la finalidad del evento es la promoción de la locali-dad y sus comercios de una forma creativa e innovadora.
los organizadores del proyecto han querido agradecer a todos los comercios patrocinadores el haber apostado por una idea que nacía de la ilusión y del interés por promocio-nar altea. as we have already published in our last edi-tion, Marina Greenwich was one of the pro-tagonists of the filming for the short ‘Capricho Mediterráneo' (Mediterranean Desire). this production was presented on the 22nd of May at Palau altea, during the event 'Moda a
escena’ an original show brought together all the perform-ing arts: theater, dance, music and cinema.
the event began with the projection of 'capricho Mediter-ráneo', starring spanish actors Fernando coronado, leticia torres and June velayos, who at the same time represented theatrical scenes, music pieces performed by the great vi-olinist Dimitri Hoffmann and the pianist lola smolokowski and dance numbers interpreted by a cast of professional dancers and acrobats from the community of valencia. the plot of the short narrates the strategy of the theft of a violin and was shot entirely in altea, as the purpose of the event is to promote the town and its shops in a creative and innova-tive way.
the organizers of this event would like to thank all the busi-ness sponsors who have supported the idea that was born from the illusion and interest to promote altea. El explorador James cook fue quién descu-brió para Occidente estas islas en 1774, a unos 1.200 kilómetros al este de australia y 1.500 kilómetros al noreste de nueva Ze-landa. les puso el nombre de nueva caledo-nia en honor de su padre escocés, pues ca-ledonia era el nombre romano de las tierras
escocesas y a cook el ver de pronto tanto verde –tras muchos azules–, le trajo recuerdos de infancia. sin embargo, fueron los franceses quiénes la colonizarían desde mitad del siglo XiX y hoy en día es parte integral de la república Francesa. tanto las incursiones británicas como la posterior coloniza-ción francesa supusieron tiempos muy duros para los nativos de este edén, pues fueron explotados como esclavos en plan-taciones de azúcar de australia y Fiyi. afortunadamente, en pleno siglo XXi su situación es bien distinta y ya quisieran mu-chos habitantes europeos gozar de una calidad de vida como la que tienen en estas islas tropicales de los Mares del sur.
Playas de suave arena blanca, un mar color turquesa de aguas cristalinas y fondos coralinos por descubrir, exube-rante vegetación y paisajes impactantes. Desde luego, este destino ofrece un repertorio paisajístico de lo más variado. Destaca particularmente por su rica flora nativa llena de en-demismos y por su mencionada diversidad paisajística, que incluye uno de los tres sistemas de arrecifes coralinos más vastos del planeta, con unas lagunas que albergan ecosiste-mas que son el hábitat de múltiples especies de peces, tortu-gas y mamíferos marinos, entre los que destaca el dugongo, el sirénido más pequeño de todos y algo parecido a los mana-tíes, para los que no están muy puestos en zoología marina.

impresionante laguna cristalina, patrimonio mundial de la unesco, donde se puede practicar kayak, catamarán o sim-plemente disfrutar de su naturaleza y recorrerla en bici o a lomos de un caballo– y las pequeñas y remotas islas loyau-tés (lealtad): lifou, mare ouvéa y tiga. todo es apetecible.
en tierra, sus paisajes, al igual que sus gentes, son muy he-terogéneos. Por ejemplo, en el oeste abundan las llanuras y es la tierra de los broussards, algo así como vaqueros que viven en ranchos y visten con grandes sombreros y botas. otra zona de gran belleza es el denominado Gran sur, ca-racterizado por sus tierras rojas, o su costa oriental que es, en cambio, muy frondosa y verde, con bosques y numerosas cataratas. en esta zona se encuentra el Parque Provincial de la rivière Bleue, con una impactante vegetación prima-ria entre la que destacan árboles milenarios y raros anima-les como el cagou, el pájaro nacional de nueva caledonia.
al contrario que otras islas de los Mares del sur, en nueva caledonia no se encuentran grandes resorts ni grandes afluencias turísticas, lo que le otorga un halo aún más es-pecial. su principal oferta hotelera se concentra en la ca-pital, numea, cerca de las playas de anse vata y Baie des citros, pero teniendo en cuenta que estamos hablando de la isla más grande, Gran Terre, con unos 400 kilómetros de largo (la tercera más grande del Pacífico), uno nunca sentirá el agobio o síndrome de la clase turista, pues las aglomeraciones simplemente no existen. Y ya que uno se traslada hasta la otra punta del mundo, conviene también pasar al menos un par de noches en le Meridien ile Des Pins, en la isla de los Pinos, para soñar despiertos y ena-morarse más aún del archipiélago.

The explorer James cook was the person who discovered for the West these islands in 1774. They are about 1,200 kilometres east of australia and 1,500 kilometres northeast of new Zealand. He named them new caledonia in honour of his scottish fa-
ther, because caledonia was the roman name for the scot-tish Highlands. When cook saw so much greenery -after so many blues- it brought back memories to him of his child-hood. However, it was the French who colonized them from the mid-nineteenth century and today they are an integral part of the French republic. Both the British raids and the subsequent French colonization made times very hard for the natives of this eden, as they were exploited as slaves on sugar plantations in australia and Fiji. Fortunately, now in the XXi century the situation is very different and many eu-ropean citizens would love to enjoy a quality of life as they have in these tropical islands of the south seas.
Beaches of soft white sand, a sea of turquoise and crystal clear waters and coral seabeds to be discovered, lush veg-etation and stunning scenery. Definitely, this destination offers a very varied repertoire of landscapes. its noted par-ticularly for its rich native flora full of endemic species and for its diversity of landscape as mentioned above, which includes one of the three systems of coral reefs largest on the planet, with lagoons that house ecosystems that are the habitat for many species of fish, turtles and marine mam-mals, among the most known is the dugong, the smallest si-renian of all of them and something similar to the manatees, that’s for those who are not so acquainted in marine zoology.
Here paradise consists of three province-islands, Grand terre –the principal island where the capital and the largest
city is, noumea-, the isle of Pines –full of trees surrounding a stunning crystal clear lagoon, a unesco world heritage, where you can practice kayak, catamaran or simply just en-joy its nature and cross it on bike or riding a horse– and the small and remote loyalty islands: lifou, ouvea and tiga. everything is appealing.
on land, its landscapes, the same as its people, are very heterogeneous. For example, in the West there are abun-dant plains, it is known as the land of the Broussards, something like cowboys that live on ranches and dress with large hats and boots. another area of great beauty is called the Great south, characterized for its red earth, or its east coast which is, on the other hand, very lush and green with forests and numerous waterfalls. in this area the Blue river Provincial Park can be found, with stunning primitive vegetation among which include ancient trees, thousands of years old and rare animals like the cagou, the national bird of new caledonia.
unlike other islands of the south seas, in new caledo-nia you will not find large resorts or influxes of tourists, so this gives it an even bigger halo. its principal hotel of-fer is concentrated in the capital, noumea, near to the beaches of anse vata and citrons. if we take into con-sideration that we are talking about the largest island, Grand Terre, about 400 kilometers long (the third larg-est of the Pacific), one here will never feel the stress or syndrome of the tourist class as crowds simply do not exist. so if you’re going to travel to the other side of the world, perhaps it would be a good idea to spend at least a couple of nights at le Meridien ile Des Pins on the isle of Pines, just to daydream and fall in love even more with this archipelago.

S oy de Valencia, considero que evidentemente el ser mediterráneo me ha influenciado en determi-nados aspectos personales y artísticos. El sentido lúdico, la eclosión del color, la ironía fallera (en el buen sentido de la palabra)… todo esto son fac-tores que siento muy mediterráneos y que clara-mente me han influenciado. Pero evidentemente
todas las experiencias suman, mis vivencias y referentes van conformando mi obra.
Llevo 20 años en Madrid, pero me considero ciudadano del mundo. El hecho de que pertenezcas a una ciudad no signi-fica que no te abras al mundo. Hay que abrirse al mundo, a todo lo válido e interesante, esté donde esté. Eso suma, te hace más rico intelectualmente hablando y te da mas baga-je, te forma más, te hace mejorar tu trabajo porque tienes más información.
Te mueves como nadie entre la cultura popular y el arte urbano, ¿cómo has acabado donde estás?Me formé como artista en la facultad de Bellas artes de valencia a la vez que trabajaba como creativo en una agen-cia de publicidad, y eso me dio una doble visión. el estar en contacto con ese mundo publicitario, me dio una dirección y unas nociones extra que mis compañeros de facultad no tenían. el poder desarrollar proyectos publicitarios, diseñar catálogos, logotipos, libros, etc. me hizo ir absorbiendo de forma natural la cultura popular. Y esto después ha sido una constante en la trayectoria de mi obra. Para mi es natural coger lo que nos rodea y llevarlo a mi terreno para darle una vuelta de tuerca. en todas mis series he trabajado sobre fe-nómenos abiertos. Publicidad, cine, deportes, música, graffi-ti… trabajar en cada una de esas serie me lleva unos cuatro
años, con un resultado de entre 50 y 60 obras. son un todo pero cada obra tiene su propio discurso y emociones.el graffiti me interesó ya cuando estaba inmerso en la se-rie sobre música. Me interesaba como fenómeno social y cultural. el graffiti está en todas las ciudades y la expre-sión del arte urbano esta ahí. Me lo llevé a mi terreno y ha sido un gran descubrimiento. Me tuve que poner las pilas, por ejemplo, yo nunca había trabajado con spray y lo in-corporé a mi lenguaje pictórico de una forma natural. eso fue un estímulo extra para avanzar. Porque yo creo que lo peor para un artista es repetirse y aburrirse.
¿Quiénes son tus referentes artísticos?Yo siempre digo que mis padres artísticos son velázquez y Warhol. Mi pintura tiene una vertiente abiertamente pop, pero no un pop a la americana pues me pesa mucho el bagaje histórico y pictórico europeo. Hay contenido, ironía y una técnica muy depurada detrás. en este sentido mi arte se desmarca del estilo americano que es un arte rápido y para consumir, sin ninguna intención de discurso intelectual detrás, en la mayoría de los casos. Yo cuento cosas, hay una intención detrás de cada cuadro y técnica-mente me requiere mucho trabajo elaborarlos.
Por otra parte, hay una anécdota muy bonita que es mi amor por los clásicos. es algo que está presente en toda mi obra. cuando era pequeño el mejor regalo que me hicieron mis padres fue una enciclopedia sobre las pina-cotecas del mundo, así que de pequeño y desde mi cuar-to, me vi todos los museos del mundo. Yo creo que eso me marcó mucho entonces. Fue como si hubiera viajado a todos aquellos sitios. en todas mis series hay

una referencia a los clásicos, llevándomelos a mi terre-no, homenajeándolos.
¿Te sientes querido en España o crees que estás más va-lorado en otros países?la verdad es que no tengo ningún reproche, me siento muy valorado. tengo que ser honesto. es cierto que el mundo del arte es muy difícil y todo lo que tiene que ver con él es muy subjetivo y está sujeto a ser juzgado. De hecho, mi obra
en este sentido es muy fácil, porque si te gusta, te apasiona pero si no te gusta, la detestas. Pero creo que esto es bue-no y aquí algo tendrá que ver mi origen mediterráneo, soy muy apasionado y eso lo transmito en mi obra. alguna vez se me ha acusado de pintar para gustar pero el gusto no es algo único, con lo cual es imposible. Yo pinto lo que siento y habrá gente a la que le apasione y gente que lo deteste. Para ser justos, creo que después de tantos años de carrera, he conseguido dignificar el arte pop español, que haya un artis-

ta pop español con una trayectoria sólida y con un discurso serio. He ido avanzando y he demostrado que si he llegado hasta aquí es porque me lo he ganado a fuerza de talento y dedicación. De alguna manera, soy la referencia para otros muchos. Y, de hecho, si soy el artista más imitado de este país será porque lo que hago funciona. He sido el creador de algunos iconos que luego me han copiado hasta el abu-rrimiento. Por ejemplo, yo fui el creador del fenómeno de las vacas hace 20 años, tenía un galerista alemán que ven-dió mis vacas a unos fabricantes de plásticos suizos y fueron ellos quiénes reprodujeron este tema por todo el mundo. también me ha pasado lo mismo con audrey. Yo rescaté su imagen como icono pop en el año 2000 por una cuestión personal, porque me fascina y, de repente, se desató la “au-dreymanía” y se puso de moda hasta la saciedad. ¡Hoy hay imitaciones de mis obras hasta en los chinos!
He conseguido crear ciertas imágenes que han trascendido porque funcionan y son válidas. Me siento satisfecho por-que me siento a gusto en españa. Hay gente que aprecia mi arte y gente que no, es inevitable y normal.
¿Cuál es el mejor halago que has recibido como artista?si fuera un artista engreído me tendrían que bajar con un globo sonda a la tierra... He sido siempre muy cauto en estas cosas, tanto con los halagos como con las críticas feroces. He mantenido los pies en el suelo. Pero si tengo que rescatar algún halago me quedo con el que me hizo una
señora mayor en una de mis exposiciones. Me dijo que mi pintura era muy terapéutica porque salías de la exposición con alegría, habiendo disfrutando. eso me gustó mucho, es-pecialmente porque por su edad no necesariamente debía conectar con mi obra, y sin embargo lo hizo. Me atrae la ca-pacidad de conectar con diferentes generaciones.
¿sigues apostando por el hiperrealismo o has cambiado ya de etapa?Yo no soy hiperrealista. soy eminentemente un artista pop, muy figurativo, eso sí. Obviamente en mi evolución como artista he pasado por diversas fases y he ido depurando mi técnica. Es cierto que en mi última serie “Graffiti pop” hay al-gunos cuadros de los que algunas personas sí me han dicho que creían que fueran fotos de lo realistas que eran. Pero no, está todo pintado con pincel y acrílico.
no me planteo etiquetas, como artista voy evolucionando y dejo que la vida me sorprenda, que mi intuición y mi expe-riencia me lleven por determinados derroteros. lo que sí es cierto es que en mi obra hay una evolución conceptual y de técnica. Me exijo lo mejor de mi mismo en cada trabajo, de algunas obras he llegado a hacer hasta 30 bocetos. Mi arte a veces parece fácil e inmediato, y eso es un halago, pero hay cuadros que he tardado hasta un año en acabar. soy muy competitivo conmigo mismo.ahora mismo me hallo en un momento de relajación artísti-ca. estoy haciendo obras sobre papel, que es algo que no he

hecho nunca, siempre he estado inmerso en la creación de cuadros grandes, más ambiciosos. el ponerme en contacto con el mundo del graffiti me ha permitido hacer un tipo de obra muy interesante y que requiere menos carga de tra-bajo, he retomado el aspecto lúdico, de divertimento… Por otro lado, me gusta hacer un arte que sea asequible, que también se lo pueda permitir la gente joven y sin tantos re-cursos. Gente que no se puede permitir una gran obra pero que puede empezar una colección de arte interesante con una obra más asequible. una anécdota: estoy reciclando los botes de spray que he usado para los graffiti y los pinto como objeto artístico. Y esto es algo mucho más asequible.
Has declarado que eres un artista de pico y pala… ¿qué quieres decir exactamente?Hay una obra mía que fue un icono en los años 80, en ella sale Marilyn Monroe y los famosos obreros de Nueva York… Yo soy uno de los obreros… Soy un currante, en estos 25 años no he parado de trabajar. no espero a que me llegue la inspiración divina, estoy siempre en movimiento, me trabajo mucho las cosas y estoy muy pendiente de todo. Me implico mucho en cada cosa que hago y no soy nada divo. Después de 25 años, estar aquí es por mérito propio.
¿a quién te gustaría retratar? Y nos referimos a que po-sara para ti, no a que te inspires a través de la publicidad u otros soportes. retratar me apasiona desde que era pequeño. He retra-tado a mucha gente, anónima y famosa, para mi eso es lo
de menos. a priori no hay nadie que tenga en mente, lo más importante es que haya una persona que desee ser retratada por mi, eso es lo que más me pone y me atrae, el deseo del otro y la satisfacción de hacerle feliz. Hace un tiempo retraté a una mujer que estaba en plena menopau-sia, se sentía muy baja de moral y se veía poco atractiva. Para mi fue un reto muy estimulante conseguir que a tra-vés de mi retrato ella se sintiera de nuevo bien. Fue una gran satisfacción y una alegría. necesito el deseo del otro para motivarme con un retrato.
¿Próximos retos?estoy pendiente de concretar varios proyectos muy inte-resantes fuera de España pero, de momento, prefiero no entrar en detalles hasta que no se materialicen. en cual-quier caso, no paro quieto, estoy siempre involucrado de un modo u otro en retos artísticos muy heterogéneos. Por ejemplo, durante el año pasado que estuve en Miami hice cosas muy distintas, desde pintar bolsos a mano para una diseñadora a grafitear en el Maritim Stadium de Miami, una acción que organizaron Gloria stefan y su marido con artistas de todo el mundo. Últimamente he hecho tam-bién una instalación en la habitación de un hotel en sit-ges dedicado a artistas, la escenografía para el programa de Alaska y Segura en TVE… Son retos que no tienen que ver directamente con la creación de un cuadro pero sí con la creación artística y de alguna manera me enriquecen y desarrollan otras facetas de mi personalidad artística. Me ponen las pilas.

I 'm from Valencia and evidently I think that to be Mediterranean has influenced me in certain personal and artistic aspects. In a ludic sense, the explosion of colour, the irony fallera (Fallera is the typical lady of Valencia) (in the good sense of the word)… all of these are factors that I feel very Mediterranean and clearly they have influenced me. But obviously every experi-
ence adds up and what I’ve lived and everything has shaped my work.
I’ve been living in Madrid for 20 years, but I consider my-self a citizen of the world. The fact that you belong to a city doesn’t mean that you can’t open up to the world. You have to open up to the world; all that is valid and interesting is where it is. That adds up, because it makes you richer, intel-lectually speaking and it gives you more knowledge, it forms you more, it helps you to improve your work because you have more information.
You move like nobody between popular culture and street art, how have you ended up where you are now?i formed as an artist in the Faculty of Fine arts in valencia at the same time that i worked as a creative designer in an advertising agency and that gave me a double vision. to be in touch with that world of advertising, gave me a direction
and some extra notions that my classmates didn’t have. the possibility to develop advertising projects, design cat-alogues, logos, books, etc. that made me absorb naturally popular culture and since then it has been a constant fea-ture in the trajectory of my work. For me it’s natural to take what surrounds us and bring it to my side and give it a twist around. in all of my series i’ve worked on open phenome-nons. Advertising, movies, sport, music, graffiti…to work in each one of these series takes me about four years, with a result between 50 to 60 pieces. they are a whole but each work of art has its own message and emotions.
I got interested in graffiti when I was absorbed in my series about music. it interested me as a social and cultural phe-nomenon. Graffiti is in all the cities and the expression of urban art is there. i brought it to my terrain and it has been a great discovery. i had to get down to work, for example, i never had worked with spray and i incorporated it in my pic-torial language in a natural way. that was an extra stimulus to advance. Because i think that for an artist the worst thing is to repeat and get bored.
Who are your artistic idols?i always say that my artistic parents are velázquez and War-hol. My paintings have an aspect obviously pop, but not an

american style pop, as my feelings for the historic and pic-torial background of europe weighs heavily with me. there are contents, irony and a refined technique behind. In this way my art differs from the american style which is a quick art to be consumed, without any intention behind it of intel-lectual dialogue, in the majority of cases. i tell things, there is an intention behind every painting and technically they require a lot of work to elaborate them.
on the other hand, there is a very nice anecdote that is my love for the classics. it is something that is present in all my work. When i was small the best gift that my parents gave me was an encyclopaedia about the art galleries of the world, so as a youngster and from my room, i saw all the mu-seums of the world. I think that must have influenced me a lot then. it was as if i had travelled to all those places. in all my series there is a reference to the classics, bringing them to my terrain, paying tribute to them.
Do you feel appreciated in spain or do you think that you are valued more in other countries?the truth is i have no reproach, i feel very valued and i have to be honest. It is true that the art world is very difficult and everything to do with it is very subjective and it´s subject to be judged. in fact, my work in this respect is very easy, be-cause if you like it, you love it and if you don’t, you hate it. But i think this is good and here something has to do with my Mediterranean roots, as i am passionate and this i transmit in my work. at sometime i have been accused that i paint to be liked, but taste is not unique, without it, it would be im-
possible. i paint what i feel and there will be people who love it and people who hate it. to be fair, i think after so many years in my career, i have managed to dignify spanish pop art, that there is a spanish pop artist with a solid track re-cord and with a serious discourse. i’ve been advancing and i’ve demonstrated that if i’ve got to here it’s because i’ve earned it by virtue of talent and dedication. somehow, i’m the reference for many others. and, in fact, if i am the artist that is more imitated in this country it’s because what i do works. i’ve been the inventor of some icons that after they have copied me to boredom. For example, i created the phe-nomenon of the cows 20 years ago. i had a German art di-rector who sold my cows to some swiss plastic manufactur-ers and it was them who reproduced this theme worldwide. the same thing happened with audrey. i rescued her image as a pop icon in the year 2000 for a personal issue because she fascinates me and, all of a sudden, there is an “audrey-mania” and it became fashionable ad nauseam. Today there are imitations of my work even in chinese shops!
i have managed to create certain images that have become known because they work and they are valid. I’m satisfied because i feel comfortable in spain. there are people who appreciate my work and people that don’t, but that’s inevi-table and normal.
What is the best compliment that you have received as an artist? if i were a conceited artist they would have to bring me down to earth in a weather balloon…I have always been very

cautious about these things, as much with praise as with fierce criticism. I’ve kept my feet on the ground. But if I have to rescue a bit of flattery, it would be from an older lady in one of my expositions. she told me that my paintings were very therapeutic because you leave the exposition happy af-ter enjoying it. i liked that very much, especially because at her age, not necessarily should she have connected with my work, and yet she did. i like the ability to be able to connect with other generations.
Do you still wager on hyperrealism or have you changed this stage yet?I’m not hyperrealistic. I’m eminently a pop artist, very fig-urative, definitely. Obviously in my evolution as an artist I have gone through different stages and I have refined my technique. It is true that in my last series “Graffiti pop” there are a few paintings that some people have told me that they thought they were photos as they were so realistic. But no, all is painted with brush and acrylic.
i don’t think about labels, as an artist i’m evolving and i let life surprise me and that my intuition and my experience leads me to certain paths. What is certain is that in my work there is a conceptual and technical evolution. i de-mand the best of myself in every work; in some of them i have done up to 30 sketches. My art sometimes seems easy and immediate and that is a compliment, but there are paintings that I have taken up to a year to finish. I am very competitive with myself.
Now I find myself in a moment of artistic relaxation. I’m cre-ating on paper, which is something that i’ve never done, i’ve always been immersed in doing larger and more ambitious paintings. Getting in contact with the world of graffiti has allowed me to do a very interesting type of work which re-quires less workload, so i have gone back to a more ludic aspect, of enjoying myself. What’s more, i like to do art that is affordable, this way younger people without too many re-sources can also allow themselves. People that can’t permit a great work but can start a collection of interesting art with a painting within reach. an anecdote: i’m recycling spray cyl-inders that I’ve used for graffiti and I paint them as an artis-tic item. and this is something much mor e affordable.
You have declared that you are a pick and shovel art-ist…what do you mean exactly? there is a work of mine that was an icon in the 80´s, and Marilyn Monroe was in it and the famous workers of new York…I am one of those workers…I’m a hard worker, in the last 25 years i haven’t stopped working. i don’t expect di-vine inspiration to come to me, i’m always in movement, i work the things and i am very aware of everything. i get very involved in everything i do and i’m not at all divo. after 25 years, to be here is for my own merit.
Who would you like to paint? and we refer more to who would pose for you, not who you are inspired by through publicity or other means.to paint has been my passion since i was small. i’ve painted a lot of people, anonymous and famous, for me that’s not the most important. a priori there’s really nobody that i have in mind, the most important thing is that there is somebody who wants to be painted by me, that’s what most thrills and attracts me, the desire of the other person and the satisfac-tion to make them happy. a while ago i painted a woman that was on her menopause, her moral was very low and she saw herself unattractive. For me it was a very stimulating chal-lenge that through my painting she felt good again. it was a great satisfaction and a joy. to do a portrait i need the desire of the other person to motivate me.
Next challenges? i’m waiting to set up various interesting projects outside of spain but, for the moment, i prefer to not go into details until they have materialized. in any case, i’m never still; i’m always involved in one way or another in heterogeneous ar-tistic challenges. For example, last year when i was in Miami i did different things, from painting handbags for a designer to graffiting in Miami’s Marine Stadium, to a performance that Gloria estefan and her husband organized with artists from all over the world. lately i’ve done also an installation in a hotel room in sitges dedicated to artists, the set design for a programme of Alaska and Segura on TVE…These are challenges that don’t have to do directly with the creation of a painting but definitely with the artistic creation and some-how they enrich me and develop other facets of my artistic personality. they charge up my batteries.

Situado entre los términos municipales de Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi y Altea, existe como tal desde 2005 y es el primer Parque marítimo-terrestre de la Comunidad Valenciana,
aunque la parte marítima es la de mayor valor, pues ocupa el 87% del área protegida.
el Parque comprende un área litoral de sumo in-terés ya que alberga importantes praderas de Posidonia oceánica que, en general, muestran un estado óptimo de conservación. resultan de vital importancia pues son el hábitat en el que se refugian, reproducen, alimentan y pa-san sus etapas juveniles una gran variedad de
peces, que son además de gran importancia para las pes-querías locales. otras de las especies animales destacadas son el vermétido (dentropoma patraeum) o la amenazada na-cra (pinna nobilis), además de numerosos taxones de peces, crustáceos e invertebrados que encuentran en estos fondos las condiciones adecuadas para prosperar. Pero, sin duda, su habitante más popular es el delfín, en concreto el mular.
Fuera del mar destacan importantes colonias de aves mari-nas, como el Paiño europeo que nidifica tanto en la isla de Benidorm como en la Mitjana. también destacan sus valores botánicos (existen tres microreservas de flora con endemis-mos de gran importancia) y geológicos (por la presencia de dunas fósiles colgadas).
ZoNas DE EsPECIaL PRoTECCIóNla gran importancia que tiene el turismo en esta zona es otro de los motivos que han llevado a la protección de esta franja costera y litoral, pues requiere una vigilancia y protección especiales para lograr que no se rompa su equilibrio natural. Y esto a su vez es un importante valor añadido que obtiene el turista, por lo que resulta de interés general para todos su

conservación. las zonas donde los valores ambientales son máximos y se consideran áreas de especial protección son los fondos de:
• la isla de Benidorm en un radio de media milla toman-do su centro en el faro de la isla.
• la isla Mitjana en un radio de un cuarto de milla desde su centro.
• Mascarat-Morro de Toix en un radio de tres cuartos de milla.
en estas áreas hay que tener en cuenta que:
• el amarre de embarcaciones se debe realizar en las bo-yas y trenes de fondeo, no estando permitido el fon-deo libre.
• la velocidad máxima de navegación es de 3 nudos. Fuera de estas zonas de especial protección las activi-dades náuticas con embarcaciones no deben superar la velocidad de 12 nudos.
• no están permitidos los deportes náuticos que impli-quen la utilización de embarcaciones a motor, como las motos de agua, sky acuático, etc.
PEsCala pesca profesional con artes menores está permitida en el Parque, por lo que se debe conocer y acatar escrupulo-samente la regulación vigente respecto a la pesca recrea-tiva (deportiva y submarina) en el ámbito del Parque para no interferir con la pesca profesional, recordando que está totalmente prohibida la pesca con artes de arrastre en todo su límite administrativo. Para poder practicar la pesca marítima de recreo es necesaria una licencia de actividad expedida por la conselleria. con carácter general se prohí-be, para cualquier modalidad de pesca (desde tierra, desde embarcación o pesca submarina a pulmón libre):
• la venta de las capturas obtenidas o la cesión a un ter-cero con un fin comercial, siendo el cupo máximo de capturas por licencia y día de 5 kg.

• la pesca a menos de 100 metros de lugares frecuenta-dos por bañistas.
• interferir en la práctica de la pesca profesional, respe-tando las distancias mínimas de separación.
• el uso de cualquier clase de sustancia venenosa, narcó-tica, explosiva o contaminante.
en relación con la pesca de recreo desde tierra, está prohi-bida la pesca con caña en la isla de Benidorm, en los acanti-lados de sierra Helada, en la isla Mitjana y en los islotes de l’olla y la Galera. Por supuesto, está totalmente prohibido el vertido de cualquier líquido o sólido en el ámbito del Parque natural (incluyendo basuras, restos de cebo, etc.), el uso del fuego con cualquier finalidad o modalidad y la acampada li-bre en todo el ámbito del Parque.
en relación a la pesca marítima de recreo desde embarca-ción está prohibida la captura y tenencia de especies pro-tegidas y vedadas. Para su práctica únicamente podrán emplearse dos líneas o aparejos con un máximo de seis an-zuelos o dos poteras por persona.
la práctica del submarinismo sí está permitida siempre y cuando se cumplan con los requisitos establecidos por la ley respecto a la seguridad y respeto por el medio, sin embargo, el buceo deportivo en apnea sí puede producir un impacto
ambiental, por lo que existe una normativa específica que les prohíbe el uso de artefactos hidrodeslizadores o simi-lares para ayudarse en este tipo de pesca. el único aparejo permitido es el arpón manual quedando prohibido el uso de instrumentos de captura con punta explosiva eléctrica o electrónica, así como de focos luminosos. Por último, todo buceador deberá marcar su posición mediante una boya de señalización claramente visible, de la que no deberá alejarse más de 25 metros.
CETÁCEosDada la frecuencia de avistamiento de cetáceos dentro de las aguas del Parque, existe una normativa que esta-blece un “espacio Móvil de Protección de cetáceos”, que marca una “Zona de exclusión” en un radio no inferior a 60 metros, medido en la superficie del agua a partir de la ubicación del cetáceo. en líneas generales, la norma-tiva al respecto establece que no se debe interferir en la trayectoria de los cetáceos ni separar al grupo, tirar alimentos o basura, producir ruidos fuertes, bañarse o circular a una velocidad superior a los 4 nudos durante la observación de los cetáceos o realizar cambios bruscos de velocidad y maniobras. Por último, existe un teléfono gratuito (900 900 580) que recoge la información sobre los avistamientos de delfines y ballenas dentro de las aguas del Parque.

Situated between the towns of Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi and Altea, it has existed as such since 2005 and it is the first maritime and terrestrial Park in the Valencian Community, although the maritime part has the highest value, as it occupies 87% of the protected area.
the Park comprises of a coastal area of great interest as it houses important meadows of sea grass that, in general, show an optimal condition of conservation. they play a vi-tal importance as they are the habitat for a great variety of fish that take refuge in them, reproducing, feeding and spending their
younger stages, which also for the local fisheries is of great value. other prominent animal species are the sea snails (dentropoma patraeum) or the threatened noble pen shell (pinna nobilis), apart from numerous groups of fish, crusta-ceans and invertebrates that find in these seabeds the right conditions to prosper. But undoubtedly, its most popular inhabitant is the dolphin, specifically the bottlenose. On land there are important colonies of seabirds, such as the european storm-petrel which nests both on the island of Benidorm and the Mitjana. to be noted are also its botan-ical values (there are three micro-reserves of flora with en-demic species of great importance) and geologically (for the presence of hanging cliff-top dunes).
aREas of sPECIaL PRoTECTIoNthe great importance that tourism has in this area is anoth-er of the motives that has led to the protection of the trip of coast and shoreline, as they require special surveillance and protection to maintain their natural equilibrium. and this in turn is an important added value which the tourist receives, for this reason its conservation is of general interest for
everyone. the zones where the environmental values are the highest and they are considered as areas of special pro-tection are the seabeds of:
• The island of Benidorm in a radius of half a mile taking its center from the lighthouse on the island.
• The island of Mitjana in a radius of a quarter of a mile from its center.
• Mascarat-Morro de Toix in a radius of three quarters of a mile.
in these areas one must take into account that:
• the mooring of boats should be done with buoys and anchorage equipment, dropping anchor is not permit-ted.
• The maximum speed to navigate is 3 knots. outside these special protected areas nautical activities with boats should not exceed the velocity of 12 knots.
• Water sports involving the use of motor boats and jet skis, water skiing, etc. are not allowed.
fIsHINGCommercial fishing on a small-scale is allowed in the Park, so for this it is necessary to know and respect scrupulous-ly the current regulations regarding recreational fishing (sport and underwater) in the area of the Park so as not to interfere with the commercial fishing, remembering that it

is totally prohibited to fish with trawling techniques in all its forms. in order to practice recreational fishing it is nec-essary a license of activity issued by the council. Generally, it is forbidden, for any modality of fishing (from land, from boat or underwater free lung fishing):
• the sale of a catch obtained or the retail to a third party with a commercial purpose, being the quota maximum for the catch per license and day of 5 kg.
• Fishing closer than 100 meters in places frequented by bathers.
• Interfere with the practice of commercial fishing, re-specting the minimum distances of separation.
• the use of any kind of poisonous substance, narcotic, explosive or pollutant.
regarding recreational fishing from land, it is prohibited to fish with a rod on the Island of Benidorm, on the cliffs of Si-erra Helada, on the island of Mitjana and the islets of l'olla and la Galera. of course, it is completely forbidden to dis-charge any liquids or solids in the area of the natural Park (including rubbish, leftover bait, etc.), the use of fire for any purpose or modality and camping in all the area of the Park.
With relation to maritime recreational fishing from boats, it is prohibited the capture and possession of protected and preserved species. For this practice only two lines or fishing tackle with a maximum of six hooks or two jiggers per per-son can be used.
the practice of scuba diving is allowed as long as the re-quirements established by law with regards to the safety and respect for the environment are met, however, sport diving in apnea can produce an environmental impact, so there are specific rules that prohibit the use of hydrofoils or similar devices to help with this type of fishing. The only equipment allowed is a manual harpoon; therefore it is for-bidden the use of instruments to capture with explosive electrical actions or electronic devices, as well as spot lights. lastly, every diver should mark their position with a buoy, making it clearly visible and not moving more than 25 me-ters from it.
CETaCEaNsFinally, as there have been so many sightings of ceta-ceans within the waters of the Park, there exists a reg-ulation that establishes a "Mobile space Protection of cetaceans" which marks an "exclusion Zone" in a radius no inferior than 60 meters, measured on the surface of the water from the location of the cetacean. in general terms, the rules establish that no one should interfere in the path of the cetaceans neither separate the group, throw food or rubbish, make loud noises, swim or circu-late at a speed superior than 4 knots during the observa-tion of the cetaceans, make sudden changes in speed or maneuvers. to end, there is a free phone (900 900 580) that receives information about sightings of dolphins and whales within the waters of the Park.

¿Te imaginas cómo eran las islas Baleares hace 50 años?

El archipiélago del Jónico está compuesto por un conjunto de islas, algunas muy próximas ente sí, que logran formar una especie de mar interior en el que destaca la quietud de las aguas.
las islas ofrecen múltiples calas y fondeaderos dominados por un paisaje de vegetación mediterránea donde destacan la presencia de olivos y cipreses hasta la misma orilla, junto a unas aguas cristalinas. también los pequeños puertos de pescadores, que sirven de amarre a las embarcaciones de-portivas, te sorprenderán por su irresistible atractivo.
Partiendo de lefkada, junto a corfú, la isla más activa desde un punto de vista náutico y de chárter, y navegando hacia el sur, sorprende en una primera navegación la quietud de las aguas, hasta tal punto que en ocasiones no se tiene la certeza de estar en un velero, cuando el barco permanece fondeado. Movimiento nulo. sólo los remos de un pescador, que faena junto a una pequeña cala en la isla de Hydra pro-voca un ligero movimiento, casi inapreciable.
navegar en el Jónico y por extensión en las islas griegas es inevitablemente, realizar un auténtico máster de fondeo. el origen volcánico de las islas obliga a fondear con mucha pro-fundidad, rara vez con menos de 12-15 metros de fondo y ya muy cerca de la costa.
sin casi espacio de borneo, es habitual, casi sistemático, echar dos amarras por popa a rocas en la costa, o incluso a los troncos de algún ciprés. importantísimo, si no se conoce la zona, ceñir las áreas de fondeo a las descritas en las guías
de navegación y olvidar algunos fondeaderos de aspecto idílico pero con peligrosas trampas submarinas. se echa el ancla sobre bellos fondos de arena interrumpidos de pronto por una enorme roca bajo la que se esconde la cadena en los borneos, impidiendo después levar anclas con seguridad. en este sentido es muy importante bucear y controlar minucio-samente el recorrido de la cadena sobre el fondo, evitando por otra parte el borneo mediante amarras por popa a tierra.
en los pequeños puertos de atokos, ithaca, cefalonia y otras islas del Jónico, el amarre en punta también se realiza previa maniobra de fondeo. es decir, no hay muerto, ni guía, ni ama-rra de proa. los fondos de fango garantizan un excelente agarre del ancla que debe ser complementado filando ge-nerosamente tanta cadena como sea posible. Pero para los primerizos en estas lides, el inconveniente es calcular la dis-tancia al muelle para no fondear excesivamente lejos y… que-darse corto. es una experiencia un poco frustrante y sobre todo molesta cuando tienes público a tus espaldas, cuando ves que la popa se introduce perfectamente en el hueco ele-gido entre dos barcos y que a 6 metros del muelle la cadena se tensa tanto y el ancla agarra tan bien, que ya no da más… y que no llegas. no llegar es comenzar de cero la maniobra.
los vientos del jónico en verano suelen soplar del cuarto cua-drante. vientos térmicos de hasta fuerza 6 pero vientos no-bles que no logran levantar ola por falta de fetch. es bueno sa-ber que no empiezan a soplar hasta las cuatro de la tarde. Por la mañana brisas muy suaves del este o calma. esta circuns-tancia en función de la tripulación y la experiencia servirán para determinar nuestros planes y horarios de navegación.

en nuestro recorrido hacia el sur primero y hacia el este des-pués, navegaremos dejando lefkada por estribor, rumbo al sur de Meganissi, previo paso por scorpio la famosa isla de onassis y Jacqueline Kennedy, hoy propiedad, casualmente, de un potentado ciudadano ruso.
Desde el sur de Meganisi pondremos rumbo hacia el sures-te para visitar las preciosas islas de Kalamos y atokos con maravillosas y solitarias calas. Podemos entonces dirigirnos hacia itaca y cefalonia, islas bien distintas, ambas de enor-me belleza y con un angosto canal entre ambas que mejor navegaremos de norte a sur por la fuerza que alcanza el viento a la hora de la térmica.
en cefalonia encontraremos pequeños brazos de mar que se adentran un centenar de metros tierra adentro, como si fueran microfiordos, rematados por un bancal de olivos y el inconfundible balar de las cabras que descienden hasta el mar para saciar su sed.
Merecerá la pena, si no se ha optado por iniciar la ruta hacia el norte atravesando de nuevo el canal de lefkada, navegar ahora hacia el nnW rumbo a Paxos y antipaxos, dos maravillosas islas de playas de fina arena, y atreverse, para que no quede, a realizar un breve visita a la tumultuo-sa y muy turística corfú, en verano territorio italiano. el navegante mediterráneo no puede faltar a su cita con este archipiélago que nos recuerda en muchos de sus rincones a las Baleares y a algunos pueblos de la costa Blanca allá por los años sesenta.

The ionian archipelago is composed of a cluster of islands, some very close to each other and be-tween them they form a sort of inland sea which is worthy of mention for the stillness of their waters.
the islands offer many coves and anchorages dominated by a landscape of Mediterranean vegetation which includes the presence of olive and cypress trees which extend to the shore, touching the crystal clear waters. Even the small fish-ing harbours, which give shelter to the boats, will surprise you with their irresistible attraction.
starting from lefkada, near to corfu, the island with more activity from a nautical point of view and sailing down to the south, on a first journey the stillness of the waters are very surprising, so much so that sometimes you can’t be sure if you’re on a boat, especially when anchored. there’s no movement at all. Just the oars of a fisherman, bringing in his catch on the island of Hydra, make a slight movement that’s almost imperceptible.
sailing on the ionian sea and around the Greek islands will inevitably give you a genuine master in anchorage. the vol-
canic origin of the islands obliges you to anchor very deep-ly, rarely less than 12-15 meters and that’s being near to the coast.
Without much space to swing on the anchor, this is usual, almost systematic, so take two mooring lines from the stern to the rocks on the coast, or even to the trunk of a cypress. very important, if you don’t know the area, keep to the places to drop anchor that are described in the navigation guides and forget the anchorages which look idyllic, as they probably have dangerous underwater traps. You let the an-chor go down on a beautiful sandy bottom, but suddenly it’s interrupted by a huge rock under which the chain is hiding, preventing afterwards the possibility to weigh the anchor safely. so in this sense it is very important to dive down and carefully control where the chain is on the seabed, avoiding on the other hand the swing by means of the mooring lines from stern to shore.
in small ports like atokos, ithaca, cephalonia and other ionian islands, to moor up needs previous maneuvers, as there are no dead weights, guidelines or mooring lines.
Because when you sail around any of the more than 15 ionian islands, time seems to stop still. in fact you feel like you have gone back to a distant and authentic past. It’s not easy to explain, but without

the seabeds of sludge guarantee an excellent grip for the anchor and this should be complemented by giving gener-ously as much chain as possible. For the first timers in this battle, the worst part is to try and calculate the distance to the quay so as not to anchor too far away… and fall short. it is an experience a little bit frustrating and especially an-noying when the public is looking at you and you can see that the stern is perfectly inserted in the gap in between the two chosen boats and at 6 meters from the quay the chain is so tense and the anchor has gripped so well, and it won’t give you any more…and you’re not going to get there. Well, not to get there means you have to repeat the entire maneuver again.
the ionian winds usually blow in summer from the fourth quadrant. thermal winds of force 6 blow but they’re noble winds that don’t raise waves for the lack of fetch. it’s good to know that they don’t start blowing until four in the after-noon. During the morning you’ll find very gentle breezes from the east or even calm. these circumstances depending on the crew and their experience will serve to determine the plans and schedules of navigation.
On the trip down to the south first and to the east after-wards, we leave lefkada on the starboard side, heading south of Meganisi, after passing scorpio the famous island
of onassis and Jacqueline Kennedy, now owned, casually, by a potentate russian citizen.
From the south of Meganisi we head towards the southeast to visit the beautiful islands of Kalamos and atokos with wonderful and secluded coves. We can then go towards ithaca and cephalonia, very different islands, both of enor-mous beauty with a narrow channel between the two, which is better to sail from north to south, because the wind really gets strong at the thermal hour.
In Cephalonia you can find small inlets of sea that meander inland hundreds of meters, like mini fiords, lined with banks of olive trees and the unmistakable bleating of goats that descend to the sea to quench their thirst.
it would be worth the trouble, if you haven’t chosen to start the route towards the north crossing again the channel of lefkada, to navigate now to the nnW towards Paxos and Antipaxos, two wonderful islands of fine sandy beaches, and then venture, so as not to leave it behind and take a brief visit to the tumultuous and very touristy corfu, in summer, italian territory. the Mediterranean sailor shouldn’t miss his appointment with this archipelago which reminds us in so many of its corners the Balearic islands and some villages of the costa Blanca that existed back in the sixties.

¿Cómo nace el Grupo Top Queens?La primera marca del grupo fue Top Queens. Era el nombre de la tienda de moda femenina que abrí en Alicante. Empezaba mi sueño y el objetivo era la gestión propia. Sin embargo, me solicitaron que compartiera mi experiencia como decoradora y diseñadora de moda porque querían abrir conmigo nuevas boutiques en diferentes puntos de España. Ahí nació el Grupo Top Queens, fundado, junto a mí, por mi marido Alfonso Bayón. En muy poco tiempo fuimos creciendo y ahora son más de 130 las tiendas que suman nuestras dos firmas: Top Queens y Nottingham.
¿A qué factores atribuye esa gran acogida?Nacimos con un nuevo concepto que ha resultado revolucionario, centrándonos en los 25€ como precio único en todos los artículos. Un concepto “nice price” que implica que el cliente entre a la tienda sabiendo lo que se va a gastar. Por tanto, es posible hacer un outfit maravilloso en tres pasos, siguiendo las últimas tendencias con los diseños más internacionales, pero, a un precio más que asequible y para todos los públicos. La experiencia de mi marido en este sector ha sido fundamental para trabajar con los mejores proveedores y conseguir la mejor relación entre la calidad y el precio.
Y CÓMO UN SUEÑO SE HACE REALIDADEs una de esas valientes mujeres empresarias que se ha hecho así misma. Hace tan sólo seis años abría las puertas su primera tienda, Top Queens, un lugar muy especial en el que ha plasmado su esencia, tanto en la decoración de la bouti-que como en el diseño de las colecciones que alberga. El estilo personal de la firma unido al bagaje de su marido, Alfonso Bayón, en el sector de los negocios, propició el desarrollo de un nuevo concepto revolucionario: la moda “nice price” que se centra en el precio único, 25€. Algo que ha sentado precedente y ha hecho de su marca un auténtico referente en moda femenina, con cada vez más seguidoras. Ahora son más de 130 las tiendas asociadas, entre Top Queens y su firma de moda masculina, Nottingham Club.
¿Diseñas tú misma las colecciones?Superviso el proceso de compra y fabricación. Elaboro todas las colecciones que llegan a cada establecimiento. Quiero que lo que cada boutique ofrece a su público sea lo que yo tendría en mi propia tienda. Además, traemos nuevas colecciones casi semanalmente. Las prendas vuelan y lo que se vende no vuelve a adquirirse para la venta, así que siempre es nuevo todo lo que ofrecemos. Un sistema con el que potenciamos además que se renueven constantemente las últimas tendencias.
Háblanos de tus colecciones...Pues en la presente temporada Top Queens nos tienta con una colección que mezcla texturas y colores. Encontramos diseños de estilo étnico, tanto para los instantes más casual como para las noches más glamurosas. Looks coloridos, sugerentes y muy cuidados donde los protagonistas son los tejidos vaporosos, los estampados alegres y los detalles boho-chic. Vestidos y demás prendas que se convierten en el mejor aliado para los largos días de verano.

¿Qué podemos esperar la próxima temporada?En otoño/invierno vendrá mucho look de fiesta, artículos con efecto ante, gabardinas, chaquetas vaqueras con aplicaciones de pedrería, zapatos con tacón cuadrado… Siempre pensado todo hasta el milímetro, adecuando las formas y composiciones a la silueta femenina, haciendo hincapié en los elementos más seductores, pero al mismo tiempo aportando seguridad y elegancia con diseños muy sofisticados. Es lo que nos caracteriza.
¿Cuál es vuestro principal reto para el futuro?Durante este año hemos comenzado a fabricar nuestras propias prendas con nuestros propios diseños. Ahora queremos que sean varias las colecciones “by Johanna Manzanaro” que lleguen a las tiendas cada temporada desde el próximo año. Nuestro principal reto será que la fabricación propia adquiera cada vez más protagonismo en las tiendas Top Queens.

How did the Group Top Queens begin?The first trade mark of the group was Top Queens. It was the name of the first shop of women’s fashion that I opened in Alicante. I began my dream and the goal was my own management. However, I was requested to share my experience as a decorator and fashion designer because others wanted me to open new boutiques in different parts of Spain. At that moment the Group Top Queens was founded, and together with my husband Alfonso Bayón it has become a reality. In no time at all we started to grow and now we are more than 130 shops that we total between the two firms of Top Queens and Nottingham Club.
What factors do you attribute to this great reception?We came up with a new concept that has proven to be revolutionary, focusing on the 25€ unique price for all the items. A concept “nice price” implies that the customer enters in a shop knowing what they are going to spend. Therefore, it’s possible to make a wonderful outfit in three steps, following the latest trends with the most actual international designs at a price more than affordable and for everyone. The experience of my husband in this sector has been essential to work with the best suppliers to obtain the relation between quality and price.
AND HOW A DREAM COMES TRUEShe is one of those brave women entrepreneurs who has made a name for herself. Just over six years ago the doors of her first shop opened, Top Queens. A very special place where she wanted to capture her essence, both with the decoration of her boutique as with the design of her collections. The personal style of the company together with the experience of her husband Alfonso Bayón in the business sector has created a new revolutionary concept. The fashion “nice price” focusing on the 25€ unique price, has followed on to make her brand a genuine benchmark in women’s fashion, with more followers every day. Now there are more than 130 associated shops, between Top Queens and her fashion brand of menswear Not-tingham Club.
Do you design the collections?I supervise the process of purchasing and manufacturing. I elaborate all the collections that arrive at each establishment. I want that every boutique offers to its public what I would have in my own shop. Besides, we bring new collections almost weekly. The garments sell so quickly and what is sold is not reacquired for sale, so everything that we offer is always new. This is a system that we constantly potentiate to renew the latest trends.
Tell us about your collections...Well, for this season Top Queens is going to tempt you with a collection that mixes textures and colours. We’re going to find designs with ethnic styles, both for casual moments as for the more glamourous nights. Looks that are colourful, provocative and carefully selected where the protagonists are sheer fabrics, cheerful prints and boho-chic details. Dresses and other garments that will become your best partner for the long summer days.

What can we expect next season?In autumn / winter there will be a party look, items with suede effects, trench coats, denim jackets with jewelry applications, shoes with square heels... Everything thought about to the millimeter, adapting forms and compositions for the feminine silhouette, emphasizing with the most seductive elements, but at the same time, providing safety and elegance with highly sophisticated designs. That’s what characterizes us.
What is your main challenge for the future?During this year we have started manufacturing our own garments with our own designs. Now we want to have several collections “by Johanna Manzanaro”, that they reach the shops every season from next year on. Our main challenge will be that our own fabrication will increasingly acquire a principal role in our stores of Top Queens.

Para empezar…• El cuerpo humano tiene dos formas de ob-
tener la energía que necesita para mover-
se: la vía aeróbica o vía anaeróbica.• Según el tipo de ejercicio que hagamos
usaremos más una u otra.
• La manera más rápida de perder peso es
quemando calorías, fundamentalmen-
te a expensas de las grasas, lo que se con-
sigue mediante ejercicios aeróbicos de intensidad moderada o media, pero de
una larga duración (entre 30 y 60 minu-
tos, según el nivel físico de cada persona).
• Ojo porque se pueden quemar calorías
también y no ser a expensas de las grasas.

La forma más segura de realizar ejercicio es median-te el control de la frecuencia cardiaca, ésta nos va a indicar aproximadamente el nivel del ejercicio que estamos realizando. Para hacerlo exacto habría que
calcular el vo2 max de cada persona, pero de forma un poco atrevida os diré que entre 120 y 155 pulsaciones estaremos trabajando de forma aeróbica y estaremos quemando gra-sas. Por supuesto, tendréis que utilizar un pulsómetro, los hay muy baratos en el mercado y os serán de gran ayuda.
Dos personas, a y B pueden estar al mismo nivel de Fc y realizar el mismo trabajo pero con distinta intensidad. a puede andar 5 kilómetros y estar a 135 pm y B, corriendo 12 kilómetros, estar a la
misma Fc. ambos están quemando calorías y grasas pero a distinta intensidad, porque su nivel físico es distinto.
Debéis hacer la actividad que más os guste hasta llegar a esas pulsaciones (155 pm) y luego bajar la intensidad hasta llegar a 120 pm, así sucesivamente entre 30 y 60 minutos. estas actividades las debemos realizar como
mínimo cuatro o cinco veces por semana y también las podemos y debemos alternar.
en el próximo número hablaré del trabajo anaeróbico y la quema de grasas. Me queda deciros una cosa fundamental y es el tema de la alimentación, independientemente de la dieta y de comer sano, si yo gasto 1000 calorías al día y tomo 1001,cada día engordo 1 y si gasto 1000 y tomo 999 cada día adelgazo 1, así que, amigos míos, un poco de sa-crificio y comer y beber siempre un poco menos de lo que os gustaría.
Ejercicios aeróbicos que re-comiendo:1. andar o andar y correr suave.
2. Natación suave.
3. andar por la arena de la playa, o con el
agua hasta las rodillas o hasta cintura.

I’m going to explain in the simplest possible way how you can take away in an easy and healthy way those extra kilos that usually we bring back from holi-days. and at the same time i will give you informa-tion to demystify some of the rumours circulating on the social networks (ignorance is very daring).
The surest way to exercise is by the means of con-trolling the heart rate, this will tell us approximate-ly the level of exercise that we are doing. to do this exactly we should calculate the vo2 max of each

Por todo esto y porque nos tenía que contar su experiencia en el Trofeo Julio verne, nos volvemos a sentar con alex Pella. atentos, porque las anécdotas no dejan indiferente a nadie.

TRofEo JuLIo VERNEse trata de un trofeo que premia la circunnavegación más rápida del mundo a bordo de cualquier embarcación a vela con una tripulación. el recorrido de esta prueba es totalmente abierto y no hay límite ni en el barco ni en la tripulación. actualmente el récord lo ostenta el Banque Populaire v patroneado por loïck Peyron y data de 2012, año en que lograron un tiempo de 45 días, 13 horas, 42 minutos y 53 segundos.la ruta es la misma que la de las regatas de vuelta al mun-do: se sale de un puerto de europa (Brest, en este caso, pues el tiempo del récord se cuenta a partir de una lí-nea imaginaria que une el faro de créac'h, en la isla francesa de ouessant, con el faro inglés de lizard), se recorre el atlántico hacia el sur para entrar en el Índi-co por debajo del cabo de Buena esperanza, se nave-ga todo el Índico y el Pacífico por debajo de australia y nueva Zelanda hasta doblar cabo de Hornos y se vuelve a subir el atlántico hasta el punto de partida.
¿cómo decides enrolarte en este nuevo reto del Trofeo Julio verne?Desde hace tres años estoy navegando en trimaranes oceá-nicos que son unos barcos que me apasionan. la verdad es que no somos muchos los regatistas especializados en este tipo de barcos y un día coincidí con Jean Baptiste levaillant yendo en taxi de Quimper a Douarnenez, a punto de subir-nos en un trimarán para intentar batir el récord de la vuelta a irlanda. Fue allí mismo donde me comentó que se iba a me-ter en esta historia, y que Francis Joyon le había pedido que organizara la tripulación.
al cabo de un mes me llamó Joyon y en junio del año pasado me vi con él en lorient. Me encantó desde el inicio su pro-yecto y cómo lo quería preparar, con poca gente a bordo (solo seis tripulantes), aparejo sencillo…
¿cómo es el barco?idec sport es un trimarán de 33 metros de eslora del 2007, ha tenido una curva de evolución muy buena y ya está casi en sus últimos años para tratar de abordar un proyecto así. ahora mismo hay dos barcos preparados para el trofeo de la Julio verne. va a ver más, hay en proyecto tres más. Pero de momento, somos el spindrift (antiguo Banque Populai-re) y nosotros.
idec sport es de diseño francés, en 2010 batió el record de la vuelta al mundo trofeo Julio verne con Frank cammas como patrón, ha ganado también las dos últimas transat. En 2010 con Franck Cammas y en 2014 con Loïck Peyron. Después de la ruta del ron del año pasado, Francis Joyon
compró el trimarán y desde entonces su rumbo apunta a la Julio verne. con el idec sport tenemos que hacer algo diferente para diferenciarnos del otro barco, que es muy potente y requiere mucha gente (son 14). Por esta razón vamos con lo mínimo e indispensable, para ser más ligeros. Ésa es nuestra baza. De las dos configuraciones de apa-rejo, elegimos el palo corto, 33 metros, igual que la eslo-ra del barco. está hecho para navegar con mucho viento. De hecho, la vuelta al mundo es un recorrido con mucho viento, y tenemos un buen barco pero las transiciones nos van a costar más que al otro barco, es ahí donde debemos estar muy alerta. el año pasado nos quedamos cerca, por un tema meteorológico, que es parte del juego, y porque no habíamos tenido mucho tiempo de preparación, apenas tres meses contra los tres años de coordinación del spin-drift. esta vez salimos mejor preparados.
¿cómo os planteáis este nuevo intento de batir el récord?El record de la vuelta al mundo se define en tramos y el año pasado hicimos buenos tiempos en casi todos ellos, pero el listón está muy alto. Y dependemos mucho de las condicio-nes meteorológicas. cuando se batió el récord la velocidad media de navegación fue de 26 nudos. esto es, una veloci-dad sostenida de algo más de 48 km/h por algunos de los océanos más remotos y peligrosos del globo. así es que 26 nudos de media es la velocidad a la que hay que aspirar para hacer buenos tiempos. Brasil nos lo “comimos” literalmen

te en tres días, la velocidad es impresionante. Y a 35 nudos todo el barco vibra pero, de pronto, el planeta se te queda pequeño. a corto plazo la tecnología de estos trimaranes hará posible hacerlos volar sobre las olas.
el año pasado hicimos el tercer mejor tiempo de la historia, por eso repetimos ahora, porque vemos que hay posibilida-des. el año pasado el anticiclón de santa Helena se hizo muy grande. tuvimos poco viento en el atlántico sur, y a la vuelta también nos pasó en la subida después del cabo de Hornos.
¿algún incidente destacado?nos han pasado muchas cosas, aunque hemos tenido mucha suerte con las averías. al cuarto día de navegación choca-mos con un cuerpo extraño y se nos quedó enganchado al timón. Paramos y descubrimos que habíamos embestido un tiburón de tres metros, no era muy grande pero se quedó enganchado. también casi nos quedamos sin gas para la co-cina. Y por temas de viento, tuvimos que bajar muy al sur en el Índico navegando con mucho frío, había -2 grados y el agua estaba a 0 grados pero con la velocidad la sensación térmica es aún menor. además, casi todo el Índico lo hicimos con niebla y con hielo, y por si esto fuera poco, lo hicimos muy rápido, a una media de 30 nudos, una locura. ahí sí que hay que saber gestionar el estrés....
¿cuál fue el momento más espectacular?en el atlántico sur vimos un iceberg impresionante, tene-mos una foto espectacular. Pasamos muy cerca con el barco lanzado, nos daban ganas de subirnos a él.
¿Y la convivencia qué tal?Muy bien, teníamos un buen equipo. Para este tipo de nave-
gación hay gente muy buena y con experiencia, pero gente que se quiera entender entre si no hay tanta, y es clave para el rendimiento. En nuestro caso la cosa fluía muy bien. El estrés siempre provoca roces pero dentro de lo normal. en principio, este año salimos los mismos.
¿Qué tal el sistema de guardias?nos organizábamos de la siguiente manera: tres horas de litera, una hora y media de reserva dentro del trimarán para comer, asearte, mirar los correos y estar alerta por si te ne-cesitan. Y fuera, siempre dos personas, una hora y media de trimmer y otra de caña, aunque esto lo cambiamos a media hora cada cosa intercambiándonos con el compañero para estar así más alerta. solo estuvimos en dos ocasiones los seis miembros de la tripulación fuera: para hacernos la foto en cabo de Hornos con el iceberg y cuando tuvimos el incidente del tiburón.
¿Y el resto del tiempo?Pues vuelves a la litera… y sigue que sigue…
cuéntanos alguna anécdota…Ha sido espectacular el seguimiento instantáneo de nuestra posición para la asistencia meteorológica las 24 horas. Usá-bamos para comunicarnos instatáneamente telegram (como whatsapp). Marcel van triest nos decía desde Palma de Ma-llorca cosas como “en 2 minutos pasaréis por una nube que necesitáis dejar atrás rápidamente pues va muy cargada”.otro ejemplo, con el otro barco nos cruzábamos a veces pero no nos veíamos y, en un momento dado, en el Pacífico, estando de guardia ví en la pantalla del ordenador una foto de nuestro barco tomada desde proa y un mensaje de Marcel Van Triest: “cazad un poco de gennaker, cabrones”…. Es im-
presionante que antes de ver al spindrift en directo ellos ya ha-bían colgado en la red una foto de nosotros y, a su vez, Marcel la había recuperado y ¡la había puesto en nuestro telegram!
¿Qué vais a hacer diferente esta vez?si salimos es porque creemos que podemos conseguirlo, aunque también es cierto que el barco está en una curva de evolución pequeña, está ya mayor. técnicamente lo haremos unos 400 kilos más ligero, prescindimos de un gennaker y de un timón de respeto… Claro que así también asumimos más riesgos. llevamos menos comida, un generador más ligero, eólico... cualquier peso es importante para la velocidad. las velas las haremos un poco más grandes. va a ser mejor pero con una evolución pequeña. en esta edición conocemos me-jor el barco y también a nosotros mismos como equipo. Pero también está la meteorología… No deja de ser una vuelta al mundo donde mandan las condiciones climatológicas. Y tam-bién tenemos que mejorar la comunicación entre el barco y tierra, en el sentido de entendernos mejor.
¿Qué es lo más inmediato?A partir del 20 de octubre estaremos en modo “espera”, pre-parados para salir cuando veamos las condiciones óptimas desde Brest, Francia. el spindrift está preparando el mismo reto y está en el mismo puerto. Pero esta vez debemos me-jorar la salida. la otra vez nos precipitamos. salimos a las 2 de la mañana porque vimos una ventana meteorológica óp-tima pero luego se complicó enseguida. Y con nuestra sali-da forzamos también la del spindrift. Hay mucha estrategia en todo esto y no podemos precipitarnos. el otro barco está siempre ahí preparándose a nuestro lado y eso supone un es-trés añadido. Hay que actuar como si no está, pero nos pre-siona mucho a ambas partes.
¿cómo ves tu futuro?a largo plazo, la vendée Globe es mi objetivo pero ahora mis-mo espero que no pase nada con Kito de Pavant y no me lla-men para sustituirle porque estoy metido de lleno en el Julio verne. a la vendée Globe quiero ir para estar en la pelea, y eso requiere tiempo. además, estoy trabajando en un pro-yecto personal muy interesante, es un poco pronto aún para hablar de ello, pero os tendré informados.

JuLEs VERNE TRoPHYThis is a trophy that rewards the fastest circumnavigation of the world without stopping, aboard any sailing vessel with a crew. The route of this regatta is completely open and there is no limit for the boat or for the crew. currently the holder of this record is the Banque Populaire v skippered by loïck Peyron since 2012, the year in which they managed a time of 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds.The route is the same as the regattas around the world: they leave from a port in europe (Brest, in this case, because the record time is counted from an imaginary line linking the lighthouse of créac'h on the French island of ouessant, with the english lighthouse at lizards Point), the atlantic is crossed southwards to enter into the indian ocean below the Cape of Good Hope, all the Indian Ocean and the Pacific are crossed below Australia and New Zealand, then Cape Horn is rounded and from there they return upwards to the atlantic and back to the starting point.
How did you decide to enroll in this new challenge for the Jules verne Trophy?since three years ago i’ve been sailing in oceanic trimarans which are boats that fascinate me. the truth is there’s not many sailors specialized in this type of vessel and one day i coincided with Jean Baptiste levaillan in a taxi going from Quimper to Douarnenez, just about to get on board a trima-ran to try and beat the round ireland record. and it was right there when he told me that he was going to get involved in this project and that Francis Joyon had asked him to organ-ize the crew.
after a month Joyon called me and in June of last year i met up with him in Lorient. I loved the project from the first mo-ment and how he wanted to prepare it with a few people on board (only a crew of six), simple rig...
What is the boat like?idec sport is a trimaran dated 2007 of 33 meters in length. it has had a very good performance curve and now it’s almost in its last years to try and do this project. right now there are two boats preparing for the Jules verne trophy. there are going to be more, there’s three more planned. But for now, we’re spindrift (former Banque Populaire) and ourselves.
idec sport is a French design, in 2010 it broke the record for the round the world Jules verne trophy with Franck cam-mas as the skipper and it has also won the last two transat. In 2010 with Frank Cammas and in 2014 with Loïck Peyron. after the route du rhum last year, Francis Joyon bought the trimaran and since then its course looks like the Jules verne. With the idec sport we have to do something differ-ent to differentiate ourselves from the other boat, which is very powerful and needs a lot of people (14). For this rea-son we’re going with the minimum and indispensable, to be lighter. That’s going to be our trump card. Of the two config-urations for the rigging, we have chosen the shorter mast, 33 meters, the same length as the boat. it’s made to sail in strong winds. in fact, the round the world journey is very windy and although we have a good boat the transitions are going to cost us much more than the other boat, its there where we have to be very alert. last year we got very close, but we had weather issues, which is part of the game and because we hadn’t had much time to prepare, just three months against the three years of coordination of the spin-drift. this time we’ll be going out better prepared.
How are you planning this new attempt to break the record?The record around the world is defined in stages and last year we made good times in almost all of them, but the standard is very high. We depend a lot on the weather con-
ditions. When the record was broken the average speed was around 26 knots. that is, a speed maintained of more than 48 km/h for some of the most remote and dangerous oceans of the globe. so 26 knots is the average speed that we must aspire to make good times. Brazil, we literally “passed by it in a flash” in three days, the speed’s incredible. At 35 knots the whole boat vibrates but, suddenly, the planet becomes so small. in a short time technology will make it possible for these trimarans to fly over the waves.
last year we made the third fastest time in history, for that reason we’re going to do it again, because we know we have possibilities. last year the anticyclone of st. Helena was very big. We had little wind in the south atlantic, and on the way back it passed us going up around cape Horn.
any incident to highlight?lots of things have happened, although we’ve been very lucky with the damages. on the fourth day we hit a foreign body and it got caught up in the rudder. We stopped and found out that we had rammed a shark of three meters, it wasn’t very big but it got tangled up. We almost ended up without gas in the kitchen too. and for matters of wind, we had to go down really far south in the indian ocean, sailing in freezing cold conditions, there were -2 degrees and the wa-ter was at zero, at that speed the thermal sensation is even less. apart from that, nearly all the indian ocean we did with fog and ice, at 30 knots on average, absolutely crazy. so you have to know how to manage the stress…
What was the most spectacular moment?in the south atlantic we saw an incredible iceberg, we have an amazing photo. We passed very close to it with the boat at full speed, we felt like we wanted to climb up on it.

and how were the living conditions?Perfect, we had a good team. For this type of navigation there are well prepared people, with experience also, but people willing to get along with each other, then there’s not so many and that is the key for a good performance. in our case things went well. stress always causes friction but al-ways within normal limits. initially, this year we’re going to be the same again.
What about the system of watch keeping?We organized as follows: three hours in the bunk, an hour and a half in reserve inside the trimaran to eat, spruce up, look at mails and just be alert in case you’re needed. and outside, always two people, an hour and a half of trimmer and the other at the wheel, although this we changed every half an hour between us just to be more alert. there were only two occasions when the six members of the crew were outside: to take the photo in cape Horn with the iceberg and when we had the incident with the shark.
and the rest of the time?Well, you go back to your bunk… and what continues to follow…
can you give us an anecdote?it has been spectacular the instant tracking of our position by the meteorological 24 hours assistance. We used to communicate instantaneously by telegram (like Whatsapp). Marcel van triest told us from Palma de Mallorca things like "in 2 minutes you’re going to pass through a cloud that you’re going to need to leave behind very quickly as it’s load-ed." another example, with the other boat we crossed some-times, but we never saw each other, and at one time, in the Pacific, while I was on watch I saw on the computer screen a photo of our boat taken from the bow and a message from Marcel van triest saying "haul in the gennaker, guys"... it’s incredible that before we saw spindrift they had already put online a photo of us, and in turn, Marcel had recovered it and put it on telegram!
What are you going to do different this time?if we’re going it’s because we believe we can do it, although it’s true that the boat is in a small curve of evolution, it’s get-ting old. Technically we’re going to make it about 400 kilos lighter, leave behind a gennaker and an auxiliary rudder… Of course, we assume more risks. We’ll carry less food, a lighter generator, powered by the wind... any weight is important

for the speed. the sails will be made a little bit bigger. in this edition we know more about the boat and ourselves as a team. But there’s also the meteorology... it is still a round the world where the weather conditions take over. and we need to improve also the communication between the boat and land, in the sense to understand each other better.
What is the next immediate step?From the 20th of october we will be on "standby", ready to go when we see the optimal conditions from Brest, France. spindrift is preparing the same challenge and is in the same port. But this time we must improve on our start. the last time we precipitated. We left at 2 in the morning because we saw a perfect moment with the weather, but straight away it got complicated and with our departure we forced spindrifts also. there’s a lot of strategy in all this and you can’t rush it. the other boat is there preparing at our side and that means a lot of added stress. You have to act as if they’re not there, but there’s a lot of pressure on both sides.
How do you see your future?long term, the vendee Globe is my goal, but right now i hope that nothing happens to Kito de Pavant and i’m not called up to replace him, because now i’m really immersed in the Jules verne. For the vendee Globe i want to go in for the fight and that needs time.
apart from that, i’m working on a personal project for the future, it’s a little soon to talk about it yet, but i’ll keep you informed.
Back to the present, we would like to wish him luck on this new adventure to try and beat the Jules verne re-cord, sailing around the world nonstop, aboard the maxi trimaran idec sport.

rapa nui es una isla volcánica muy aislada de la civilización, se encuentra a más de 3.500 kiló-metros de la tierra más cercana, la costa chilena de Valparaíso, y a poco más de 4.000 de Tahití. la creencia más generalizada apunta a que en el siglo iv algunos grupos reducidos de polinesios
llegaron en embarcaciones rudimentarias a esta isla total-mente deshabitada. se supone que fueron ellos quiénes construyeron las enigmáticas esculturas moais, de aspecto antropomorfo, muy pesadas (más de 10 toneladas) y de una altura considerable, entre uno y 21 metros. se desconoce cómo las tallaron y trasladaron y qué función tenían pero lo cierto es que pueblan toda la isla, hay más de un millar y no hay dos iguales. tampoco sabemos porqué quedaron moais por terminar, abandonados y semi enterrados. uno de los conjuntos escultóricos más impresionantes está en la ladera del volcán rano raraku, cuyas rocas de toba de lapilli sirvie-ron de cantera para todas las estatuas.
El mundo científico ha tratado de buscar respuestas a este enigma pero hasta la fecha no hay más que conjeturas. se
dice que podrían ser personajes importantes de su socie-dad, pero su gran profusión desmonta la teoría. también se dice que podrían ser monumentos funerarios y hasta que podrían tener un origen extraterrestre.
¿Y cómo fueron trasladadas? en las estatuas se han en-contrado pequeñas hendiduras en forma de anillo y ara-ñazos verticales que podrían ser vestigios de su transpor-te gracias a troncos. Y, al parecer, habrían sido levantadas gracias a poleas sujetas en una torre gigante construida aparte. Pero tampoco hay quórum. otros antropólogos creen que fueron trasladadas sin conocer la rueda, sim-plemente arrastrándolos y levantándolos con cuerdas en-tre muchos hombres. Y por último, no está claro tampoco si los ‘pukao’, los pesadísimos tocados que llevan sobre la cabeza, fueron puestos a la vez, o si se erigieron en dos etapas distintas.
los que sí parece que lo tienen más claro son los indígenas Rapa Nui de la isla, que siguen manteniendo firme su teoría, y es que las estatuas caminaban.

Rapa Nui es el verdadero nombre de esta isla ubicada lejos de todo y sin grandes paisajes o playas de postal: su atractivo radica en sus habitantes de piedra, un misterio que aún hoy deja muchas
preguntas en el aire.

and how were they transferred? on the statues they have found small fissures like a form of ring and vertical scratch-es that could be traces that they were transported thanks to trunks. and, apparently, they would have been raised up by pulleys held by an enormous tower, built apart. But on this, there is no quorum. other anthropologists believe that they were transferred without the knowledge of the wheel, simply by dragging them and lifting them up with ropes be-tween many men. And finally, it is not clear either whether the ´pukao´ the super-heavy headdresses that they carry on their heads, were placed at the same time, or if they were erected in two distinct stages.
those who do seem to have a clearer idea are the rapa nui natives, who still maintain strongly their theory that the statues walked.

Proseguimos con los consejos sobre la seguridad a bordo cuando se realizan travesías con niños. además de repasar las condiciones de seguri-dad de la embarcación, con especial atención a que el número de chalecos sea suficiente y que sean adecuados a las edades de los pequeños, y una vez revisadas las reservas de agua potable
y comprobado que el botiquín esté actualizado, no está de más tener en cuenta una serie de medidas extra, que deta-llamos a continuación.
QuEMaDuRas soLaREsel uso de cremas protectoras es muy importante, especial-mente cuanto más pequeños sean los niños. en bebés debe utilizarse la protección total y también de otras intensida-des, dependiendo del tipo de piel. cuando hace calor es bue-no ponerles camisetas holgadas y, para protegerles del sol, son buenos complementos las gorras y las gafas de sol. Por supuesto, se deben evitar las exposiciones prolongadas al sol y el uso de cremas solares en los niños debe extenderse a cualquier época del año.
CaLZaDoProhibido estar descalzo en la cubierta del barco, pues favo-rece todo tipo de golpes en los dedos de los pies y caídas por deslizamiento, con consecuencias imprevisibles. los zapa-tos deben ser cerrados y con suela antideslizante. las chan-clas son muy peligrosas, pues no protegen y facilitan trope-zones y enganches en diversas estructuras de cubierta.
foNDEaDosal fondear es bueno que los niños más mayores se sientan útiles colaborando en la maniobra. se deben acostumbrar a que en el barco manda sólo el capitán y aprender que no pueden saltar al mar por su cuenta antes de haber parado los motores y haberlo autorizado el capitán. es bueno tener preparadas actividades acordes a las diferentes edades de los niños, si son muy pequeños deberán ser en torno al bar-co (ojo siempre a tener los motores totalmente parados). si son más mayores las actividades también pueden ser a ma-yor distancia, con o sin accesorios flotantes de diverso uso. se tendrá especial cuidado cuando se trate de accesorios con pequeñas motorizaciones, que requerirán un uso muy responsable y/o supervisado en todo momento por adultos. el snorkel puede ser muy divertido, pero hay que recordar a los niños el peligro de acercarse demasiado a las rocas, so-
bre todo con mala mar, la conveniencia de llevar guantes por si una ola nos obliga a apoyarnos en las rocas (puede haber erizos) y lo útiles que son las aletas, para salir con rapidez y potencia de una situación incómoda o inesperada.
en resumen, el mar y el barco pueden ser un gran aliciente para pasar momentos amenos y muy gratificantes con ni-ños. Pero el factor infantil condiciona una mayor atención y responsabilidad, y como no se pueden prever todas las cir-cunstancias, lo mejor es aplicar el sentido común que a todo capitán se le presupone.

We continue with our safety tips on board especially when travelling with children. apart from reviewing the security conditions of the vessel, taking special care that the number of life jackets are sufficient and that
they are appropriate for the children’s age and after revis-ing the supplies of drinking water and checking that the first aid kit is up to date, it would be worth the while to take into account a number of additional measures, which we have detailed below.
suNbuRNthe use of protective creams is very important, especially the younger the child is. With babies, total protection should be used and also other intensities, depending on the type of skin. When the weather is very hot it is better to put on them loose fitting t-shirts and to protect them from the sun, caps and sunglasses are always good accessories. of course, prolonged exposures to the sun should be avoided and the use of sun lotions on children should be extended to any season of the year.
fooTWEaRit is prohibited to go barefoot on the deck, as this favors all sorts of blows on the toes and falls due to slipping, with un-predictable consequences. shoes should be closed-in with nonslip soles. Flip flops are very dangerous, because they do not protect and they make it easier to trip over or get knocks from the various structures on the boat.
aNCHoREDWhen anchoring it is good for the older children to feel useful helping with the maneuvers. they should get accus-tomed that on the boat the captain is the only one in charge and learn that they cannot jump into the sea on their own before the engines have stopped and the captain has giv-en his authorization. it’s good to have activities prepared according to the different ages of the children, if they are very young they should stay around the boat (caution, al-ways with the engines completely stopped). if they are a lit-tle older the activities can be farther away, with or without floating accessories for different uses. Special care should be taken when it comes to objects with small motorizations, which require a more responsible use and / or supervised

to sum up, the sea and the boat can be a great incentive to spend very rewarding and enjoyable moments with the children. But the child factor conditions a greater attention and responsibility, and as one cannot foresee all the circum-stances, the best is to apply common sense which every cap-tain should have.

como ya comentamos en el pasado número de MG Magazine, la adquisición y puesta en mar-cha del nuevo travelift, junto a las obras de am-pliación del foso de varada de Marina Green-wich, son ya una realidad.
se trata de la mejora más importante que se ha llevado a cabo en varadero durante los últimos años y la acogida que ha tenido ha sido muy satisfactoria. Han sido ya numerosos los barcos de esloras significativas los que han contado con nuestros servicios.
tras las pruebas necesarias, hemos podido varar embarca-ciones de hasta 75 toneladas y 26 metros de eslora, lo cual ha supuesto un importante avance en los servicios que po-demos prestar en nuestro varadero, pudiendo atender por fin a la inmensa mayoría de los barcos de nuestra marina y de los puertos cercanos, que antes se veían obligados a des-plazarse hasta alicante o Denia para llevar a cabo los traba-jos de mantenimiento anuales.
Entre los trabajos más significativos que se han llevado a cabo hasta la fecha destaca la puesta a punto de una Prin-cess 85 Fly a la que se le tuvieron que sustituir ejes y ar-
botantes, aparte de otros trabajos de mantenimiento como pulido completo de casco y cubierta, antifouling y ánodos. también se le realizó una revisión completa de motores, con sustitución de turbos, puesta a punto de generadores, repa-ración de estabilizadores y equipos de aire acondicionado, trabajos realizados por servicios oficiales con los que cola-boramos habitualmente.
nos parece importante aclarar que pese a la ampliación de la capacidad de varada del travelift seguimos atendiendo y prestando nuestros servicios a todo tipo de embarcaciones. el sistema de carros móviles de la nueva máquina permite varar barcos desde 7 metros de eslora hasta los 26. otro dato a destacar es que el varadero dispone de un máximo de tres plazas para poder dejar en seco embarcaciones de es-loras comprendidas entre los 20 y 26 metros, por lo que es muy conveniente reservar con cierta antelación los servicios de varadero para que haya una buena planificación de los tra-bajos a realizar. la intención es dar prioridad a las embarca-ciones que hayan hecho su reserva con la debida antelación.
En definitiva, creemos que ha sido una decisión muy acerta-da para nuestra marina el haber dado este importante paso tanto por motivos de seguridad como comerciales.

as we commented in the last edition of MG Magazine, the acquisition and the implementa-tion of the new travelift of Marina Greenwich, along with the enlargement of the slipway for dry-docking, are now a reality.
this is the most important improvement that has been car-ried out in the dry dock over the last few years and the re-ception that it’s had has been very satisfactory. there have already been many boats of significant lengths that have counted on our services.
after the necessary tests, we have been able to dry-dock boats up to 75 tons and 26 meters in length, which has been a major step forward in the services that we can provide in our dry dock, giving the possibility at last to attend to the major part of the boats in our marina and surrounding ports, that before were obliged to travel to alicante or Denia to carry out their annual maintenance work.
Among the most significant works that have been carried out up to now and is worthy of mention, is the overhaul of a Princess 85 Fly to which shafts and buttresses had to be re-
placed, apart from other maintenance work such as a com-plete buffing and polishing of the hull and deck, antifouling and anodes. also a complete revision of the engines were carried out with replacement of turbos, the tuning of gen-erators, reparation of stabilizers and air-conditioning units, all works carried out by official services that habitually col-laborate with us.
We think that it is important to clarify that despite the size of the capacity of the travellift for dry-docking, we still con-tinue attending and giving our services to all types of ves-sels. the system of mobile tracks on the new machine allows us to dry-dock boats from 7 meters long up to 26. another point to note is that the dry dock has a maximum of three spaces to leave on land boats with lengths between 20 and 26 meters, for this it is convenient to book in advance the services of the dry dock so that the work can be planned. the intention is to give priority to vessels that have made their reservations before.
in conclusion, we believe that it has been a very good deci-sion for our marina to have taken this important step, both for reasons of security and commercial.

La Bruschetta ceLeBrates 20 yearsla Bruschetta is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year and they are doing it by offering their clients a celebra-tion menu. it was on the 7th of august in 1996 when the res-taurant first started in Calpe and since 2004 has settled in a country house in altea, just before the turnoff to take the entrance to altea la vella. From there, Maribel and tomma-so have continued with their traditional italian cuisine made with first class quality products and a lot of vocation. Their celebration menu (29 € per person) consists of three types of Bruschettas, Buffalo mozzarella with rocket, tagliatelle alla pescatore, beef with pepper, rosemary and gratin of po-tatoes and a tiramisu to finish. All of this can be washed down with some of the wines from their cellar, which contains over 100 italian references.
La Bruschetta ceLeBra 20 añosla Bruschetta celebra este año su vigésimo aniversario y lo hace ofreciendo a sus comensales un menú de celebración. el cangrejo rojo real es nativo del mar de Bering,
cerca de la península de Kamchatka y las vecinas
aguas de alaska. Depreda a su paso toda la fauna
marina que se le pone a tiro, de ahí la tersura y el
intenso sabor de su carne. llega a alcanzar dos me-
tros de envergadura, y de ahí su segundo nombre,
cangrejo rojo gigante, con unas enormes patas de-
lanteras cuya carne es jugosa y deliciosa. es un ex-
celente marisco rico en contenido proteico e hipo-
calórico. en nuestro restaurante podrás degustar
sus patas hervidas, a la plancha o a la brasa. o su
carne rebozada en tempura con salsa de soja, en en-
salada o, cómo no, en paella. seguro que repetirás.
the red King Crab is a native of the Bering sea, near
to the Kamchatka peninsula and surrounding waters
of alaska. he preys on all the passing marine wildlife
that comes into his grasp, hence the smoothness and
intense flavour of his meat. He can reach two meters
in size and that’s where his second name comes from,
giant red crab, with huge forelegs whose flesh is juicy
and delicious. it is excellent seafood rich in protein and
calorie content. in our restaurant you can taste his legs
boiled, grilled or charcoal. Or its meat in tempura with
soy sauce, in a salad or, of course, in paella. We are sure
you will repeat.
