ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT FOR THE
ACADEMIC YEAR 2010 – 2011
The IQAC meeting was convened on 23.07.2010 by Mr. G. Arutchelvan, Head,
Department of Computer Science and Applications, and Coordinator of IQAC. The
members discussed in detail the role of the Cell, chalked out an action plan for the
academic year 2010-2011 and requested the staff to scrupulously follow the action plan
and implement it in true spirit.

PART – A
The plans of action chalked out by the IQAC at the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement were:
PLAN OF ACTION
1. To obtain autonomous status for the college from the University Grants
Commission. In this regard, the college applied for autonomous status in
December, 2008, and was awaiting the visit of commission for the conferment of
autonomous status.
2. To convene and conduct meetings of Institutional Animal Ethical Committee
under the guidelines of CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose and Control and
Supervision of Experiments on Animals) for conducting scientific experiments on
animals.
3. To apply for financial assistance from Central funding agencies by the
Departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Computer Science and Computer
Applications and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell for organizing and
conducting National Level Conferences.
4. To continue linkages with National Academic Bodies, by continuing the operation
of the Regional field Unit (RFU) for language teaching, with the assistance of
National Testing Services, India (NTS-India), Mysore.
5. To develop the practical skills and employability of students, the different
departments planned to initiate Certificate and Diploma courses.
6. To acquaint with the recent trends and to enhance knowledge of teachers and
students, to organize conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops by inviting
experts from various fields of study.
7. To improve the analytical skills of students, training in designated laboratories,
hospitals, research institutions and industries was proposed.
8. To enhance employment opportunities, apart from off-campus recruitments, it
was decided to bring in more prospective employers for campus placements.

9. To benefit the community at large, the NSS (National Service Scheme) had on its
agenda personality development programme, blood donation camp, tree plantation
camp and a special camp.
10. To organize training programme, competitions, blood donation camps, screening
camps, veterinary camps and to invite resource persons for various club activities
of the institution.
11. To encourage the staff and students to participate and present papers outside the
campus at various symposia / seminars / conferences and also to publish books
and research papers.
12. To improve extracurricular activities, encourage students to actively participate in
sports.
OUTCOME
AUTONOMOUS STATUS
The College applied for autonomous status in December, 2008. Am
experts committee appointed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), under
the chairmanship of Prof. R.P. Kaushik, Former Member, UGC, visited the
college on 1st and 2
nd July, 2010, and conducted inspection of the infrastructure,
facilities and staff details and submitted its report to the UGC. Based on the
committee’s recommendations, the UGC conferred status of fresh autonomy to
the college by its letter No. F.22-1/2010(AC) dated 23.09.2010 and the
Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore conferred status of fresh autonomy by its letter
No. TU/R/A/Conferment of Autonomy/2011-2012/A.2298 date 06.04.2011.
Hence it has been proposed that the college will function as an
autonomous institution from the academic year 2011-2012. In this regard, the
Governing Body, Academic Council and Boards of Studies are being constituted
and they will help the College in functioning as an Autonomous College.
MEETING OF IAEC UNDER CPCSEA
Department of Biochemistry convened and conducted a meeting of
Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC) of CPCSEA on 7th August, 2011.

Six researchers submitted their research proposals for animal experiments and the
Committee approved their proposals and permitted them to for using 246 rats for
animal experiments.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
National Academic and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru,
sanctioned a grant of Rs. 75,000 to the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
for organizing a State Level Seminar on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching-
Learning Process on 2nd and 3
rd February, 2011.
NTS ACTIVITIES:
The National Testing Services (NTS), Mysore, India, has approved the
College, as a Regional Field Unit for the Districts of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai
and Kancheepuram, with effect from 1st July, 2009 to 31
st March, 2011 for the
promotion of language teaching here. The RFU has conducted Conferences, Guest
lectures etc., for the College Teachers of Vellore, Thiruvannamalai and
Kancheepuram districts on 21st August, 2010, 30

CERTIFICATE COURSES
Department of Biochemistry conducted “Diploma in Medical Laboratory
Technology” Course in collaboration with Bharat Sevak Samaj, Chennai.
Department of Microbiology started Certificate Course in “Medical Laboratory
Technology (Pathology)” in collaboration with Bharat Sevak Samaj, Chennai.
Department of Computer Science and Applications conducted CCNA (CISCO-
Certified Network Administration) Course. Department of Commerce and
Business Administration started “Certificate in Accounting Technicians” Course
at two levels (Level I and Level II) in collaboration with ICWAI (The Institute of
Costs and Works Accountants of India), Kolkatta, TALLY, and a Course on
Computer in Office Automation (COA). Hindi language coaching classes have
been started for UG students with an intake of 68 students. Of them, 47 students
have appeared and 43 students passed in `Prathmik’ examinations and 2 students

passed ‘Madhyama’ examinations conducted by Dakshin Bharath Hindi Prachar
Sabha, Chennai. Diploma in Yoga course examinations are conducted for students
in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University,
Chennai. Students are given free typewriting classes and encouraged to appear in
the examinations.
SEMINARS AND SYMPOSIUM CONDUCTED
To improve co-curricular activities and to acquaint with the recent trends
and enhance knowledge of teachers and students conferences were organized by
all the Departments. Department of Microbiology organized a National
Conference on “Molecular Diagnosis of Communicable Diseases” “Infectiva ’10”
on 11th October, 2010. Department of Biochemistry conducted an International
Conference on “Gene Therapy and Phytotherapy in Modern Medicine” on 4th
January, 2011. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a State Level
Seminar on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching-Learning Process on 2nd and 3
rd
February, 2011. Department of Computer Science and Applications conducted a
National Conference on “Network Security” on 12th February, 2011. Department
of Commerce and Business Administration organized a National Conference on
“Human Resource Practices in Globalization Era” on 23rd February, 2011.
Academic scholars from various educational institutions enlightened the students
on different issues.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Industrial Visit
About four hundred students of the Biochemistry, Commerce and
Business Administration, Computer Science and Applications and Microbiology
departments visited 16 research institutions and industries, such as Amirtham
Industries Ltd., Krishnagiri, Amudasurabi Fruit Industries Pvt. Ltd., Pothapuram,
Kaveripattanam, Biotech R & D Labaoratories, Yercaud, Central Leprosy
Teaching and Training Institute, Chengalpattu, Central Marine Fisheries Research
Institute, Cochin, HCL Info Systems Ltd., Puducherry, Indian Institute of

Development of Communication Skills
Department of English trained the students for appearing the Proficiency
Test in English (PTE) and Vocabulary Test in English. Seventy four I year
Undergraduate students appeared in the Proficiency Test in English and fourteen
students appeared in the Vocabulary Test in English conducted by the
Shakespeare Institute of English Studies, Chennai.
Field Visit
About hundred students of the I year undergraduate students of all
departments visited Vandaloor Zoological Park and Sathanoor Dam as Field Visit
arranged by the Enviro Club.
CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT
Two students were selected in the campus recruitment conducted by M/s.
Ambalal Shares & Stocks Pvt. Ltd., Vellore, on 19th February, 2011. Eleven
students were selected in the campus recruitment by M/s. LAPIZ Digital Services,
Ranipet, on 11th April, 2011. Five students were selected in the campus
recruitment by M/s. VirBac Animal Health India Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, on 24th June,
2011. Nine students were selected in the campus recruitment by M/s. ALLSEC
Technologies Ltd., Chennai, on 27th June, 2011. M/s. Syntel Inc. conducted an
online Campus recruitment test in our college on 10th April, 2010 for final year
B.Sc. (Computer Science) and B.C.A students.
Seven students have been selected by Cognizant Technology Solutions
India Pvt. Ltd., Three students by WIPRO Academy of Software Excellence,
Bengaluru, and One Student by HCL, Chennai in the off-campus recruitment held
at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Students also participated in the off-

campus interview conducted by Tata Consultancy Services at The Sacred Heart
College (Autonomous), Thiruppattur.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Community Development Activities of the NSS includes guest lectures on
“Personality Development” by Mr. M.K. Krishnan, Krubha Associates, Chennai,
on 22nd July, 2010, and “Motivation of Students Community towards Service” by
Mr. R. Chandrasekaran, Udhavum Ullangal, Vellore, on 31st August, 2010. A
Marathon was organized to create awareness on World Literacy Day at Kalavai,
on 8th September, 2010 and a rally to create awareness on World AIDS day on 1
st
December, 2010. Two NSS Volunteers attended Orientation programme at Sri
Sankara College, Kancheepuram, from 21st to 27
th January, 2011. Tree plantation
camps were organized at the college campus and at Government Hospital,
Kalavai. The NSS Volunteers helped on the occasion of Polio vaccination at
Kalavai. Along with Blood Donor’s Club, NSS organized a Blood Donation
Camp at Government Hospital, Adukkamparai, Vellore, on 3rd March, 2011.
NSS conducted a special camp for 150 volunteers at Allalacheri, Agaram
and Nagaleri villages from 21st to 27
th January, 2011. The objective of the camp
was “Healthy Youth – Wealthy India”. The volunteers cleaned and whitewashed
the school buildings, noon meal scheme centre, Balvadi, Panchayat office and the
local temples, cleared bushes on the sides of the village roads and around the bore
wells, leveled the area to avoid water stagnation, leveled the roads, planted tree
saplings (100 Nos. of Flame of the Forest) , conducted literary programmes and a
survey on “Dropout in School Education” among the villagers, formed a
playground and conducted a free Medical Camp in association with
Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Hospital and Research Centre, Melmaruvathur, an
awareness campaign on the importance of public health and the importance of
hospital treatment during pregnancy period etc. Four special lectures were also
arranged – “Fire Safety and Protection”, by Mr. N. Jayakumar, Station fire
Officer, Department of Fire and Rescue Services, Kalavai; “Fundamental Rights
of public in Indian Constitution”, by Mr. V. Selvapandian, Lawyer; “Victory

through Spiritualism”, by Prof. G. Arutchelvan, Head, Department of Computer
Science and Applications, Adhiparasakthi College of Arts & Science, Kalavai;
and Prof. Mrs. M. Jayanthi, Head, Department of Biochemistry, Adhiparasakthi
College of Arts & Science, Kalavai. The NSS units distributed note books, slates,
geometry boxes, pens, pencils, etc, to school children. Also, 50 plates, 50
tumblers, 1 fan and 3 plastic chairs were donated to the Noon Meal Scheme
Centre.
The College collected Rs.4000 from students as Flag Day Collection. The
students also donated Rs. 3910 to Indian Red Cross Society; Rs. 700 to Indian
Association for the Blind and Rehabilitation Center, Arumbanoor Post, Madurai;
and Rs. 3351 to Udhavum Ullangal, Vellore.
CLUB ACTIVITIES
The club activities of the college include: one-day training programme on
“Fabric Painting” by the Women’s Cell on 18th August, 2010. The cell also
conducted Tamil Oratorical competition for students on 19th January, 2011. Also,
International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8th March, 2011, in the presence of
Dr. Sasikala, Principal, Adhiparasakthi College of Education, Kalavai. Red
Ribbon club organized an AIDS awareness programme. Youth Red Cross (YRC)
organized a First Aid Awareness Programme in the College on 20th August, 2010,
in the presence of Mr. K. Murali and Mr. C. Chinnappan, Assistant Divisional
Fire Officers, Vellore, and Mr. S. Sakthivel, Fire Station Officer, Vellore.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Many students from various disciplines participated in seminars,
symposia, conferences and workshops outside campus and won prizes.
The Department of Biochemistry conducted ‘Food Competition on
Nutritive Redimix’ for students on 30th September, 2011, in the presence of Dr.
Go. Bharani, M.B.B.S., M.D., Assistant Professor, Government Medical College,
Vellore.

Department of Commerce and Business Administration celebrated “India
Corporate Week” in association with Vellore Chapter of Cost Accountants with
Sustainable Business as the theme on 21st December, 2010.
Cultural Meet was conducted for students in various disciplines such as,
Mehandi, Umbrella painting, Hair dressing, Vegetable carving, Bouquet making,
Rangoli, Wealth out of waste, Singing, Collage, Solo dance, Group dance and
Individual talent. Students also participated in cultural meets held in other
colleges.
Three students were selected to represent Thiruvalluvar University in
Inter-University competitions. Twelve students were selected to participate in
Thiruvalluvar University Inter-Divisional Tournaments and won prizes. College
hosted Thiruvalluvar University Inter-Collegiate Foot Ball (Men) and Hand Ball
(Men) tournaments and Thiruvalluvar University Inter-Divisional Hand Ball (Men
and Women) tournaments.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:
The vision of the institution is to mould youth, to combat changing challenges and
to serve global community, with professional competence and spiritual commitments to
excellence. To achieve this, the mission is to provide quality, value – based and career
oriented education to students, especially rural young men and women, who will be
agents of social transformation and global development through their selfless and
spiritual service. Being the first self-financing institution started in rural Tamil Nadu in
1988, the development of the institution in terms of infrastructure, curriculum and faculty
has created a magnificent atmosphere conducive for higher education for rural youth here
till date.
In this regard the goal of the Institution is to obtain autonomous status for the
college from the University Grants Commission. The college applied for autonomous

autonomous status. An experts committee was appointed by the University Grants
Commission (UGC), under the chairmanship of Prof. R.P. Kaushik, Former Member,
UGC, Former Indian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Professor (retired), Jawaharlal Nehru
University, New Delhi. The other members of the Expert Committee were: Dr. Ambat
Mohandas, Professor Emeritus, NCAAH School of Environmental Studies, Cochin
University of Science and Technology, Cochin; Sr. S.R. Walnuj, Principal, Padmashri
Vikhe Patil College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Aravarangar, Ahmednagar District;
Prof. T. Raja Abraham Devakumar, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore
Region (State Government Nominee); Mrs. K. Radha, Principal, Arignar Anna
Government Arts College, Villupuram (University Nominee); and Shri V. S. Karsija,
Deputy Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi (Member Secretary). The
Expert Committee visited the college on 1st and 2
nd July, 2010, and conducted inspection

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG):
New academic programmes have not been initiated during the academic year
2009-2010. The college has applied to University for the initiation of M.Phil.
(Commerce) from the next academic year.
3. Innovation in curricular design and transaction:
The institution is affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore and follows the
syllabus prescribed by it.
4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started:
Department of Biochemistry started “Electro Cardiography” Certificate Course
and Department of Microbiology started “Medical Laboratory Technology” Course in
collaboration with Bharat Sevak Samaj, Chennai. Department of Commerce and Business
Administration started “Computer in Office Automation” Course. Hindi coaching classes
are continued for all UG students with the introduction of “Madhyama” classes,
conducted by Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, T. Nagar.
As per the CBCS (Choice-Based Credit System) of the University, the
Departments have opted for various inter-disciplinary courses for the students.
• Department of Biochemistry offers Clinical Biochemistry – I and Clinical
Biochemistry – II for II B.Sc. Microbiology and Nutrition in Health and
Diseases for II M.Sc. Applied Microbiology.
• Department of Microbiology offers Computer Applications in Biology and
Bioethics for II B.Sc. Biochemistry and Herbal Technology for II M.Sc.
Biochemistry.

• Department of Computer Science and Applications offers Introduction to
Information Technology and Internet and its Applications for II B.Com. and
Computer Applications and Fundamentals of Computers for II B.B.A.
• Department of Commerce and Business Administration offers Management
Concepts and Training and Development for II B.C.A. and Elements of
Accountancy and General Commercial Knowledge for II B.Sc. Computer
Science and Public Administration for III M.C.A.
5. Examination reforms implemented:
The examination reforms are under the purview of Thiruvalluvar University,
Vellore.

K. Balaji, Head, Department of Commerce and Business Administration and N.S.S.
Programme Officer, participated in an Orientation Programme on Gandhian Thoughts, at
Social Harmony and National Unity (SHANU) Division, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute
of Youth Development, Sriperumpudur, on 22nd October, 2010.

Five National / State Level Conferences / Seminars were conducted during the
academic year.
• Department of Microbiology organized a National Conference on “Molecular

• Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a State Level Seminar on
“Innovative Approaches in Teaching-Learning Process on 2nd and 3
rd February,
2011. The eminent academicians graced the Seminar are Prof. S.P. Thyagarajan,
Pro-chancellor (Research), Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, Chairman,
Tamil Nadu State Academic Audit and Accreditation Council (TANSAAC),

• Department of Commerce and Business Administration organized a National
Conference on ““Human Resource Practices in Globalization Era” on 23rd
February, 2011. The dignitaries addressed the Conference are Mr. S. Ashok, Chief

and Head, Department of Management Studies, Reva Institute of Science and
Management, Bengaluru; and Dr. A. Dhanalakshmi, Professor and Coordinator,

Eight resource persons were invited for guest lectures to enlighten students on the

To patronize community service, institution supports Departments and
Clubs to organize community-oriented service programmes like blood donation
camp, special camp, certificate programme, competitions, tree plantation
programme, eye screening camp, veterinary camp and traffic control during local
festivals and many awareness programmes. White washing of community
buildings, donation of sports goods and stationeries to school children were
carried out by different clubs.

Community Development Activities of the NSS includes guest lectures on
“Personality Development” by Mr. M.K. Krishnan, Krubha Associates, Chennai,
on 22nd July, 2010, and “Motivation of Students Community towards Service” by
Mr. R. Chandrasekaran, Udhavum Ullangal, Vellore, on 31st August, 2010. A
Marathon was organized to create awareness on World Literacy Day at Kalavai,
on 8th September, 2010 and a rally to create awareness on World AIDS day on 1
st
December, 2010. Two NSS Volunteers attended Orientation programme at Sri
Sankara College, Kancheepuram, from 21st to 27
th January, 2011. Tree plantation
camps were organized at the college campus and at Government Hospital,
Kalavai. The NSS Volunteers helped on the occasion of Polio vaccination at
Kalavai. Along with Blood Donor’s Club, NSS organized a Blood Donation
Camp at Government Hospital, Adukkamparai, Vellore, on 3rd March, 2011.
NSS conducted a special camp for 150 volunteers at Allalacheri, Agaram
and Nagaleri villages from 21st to 27
th January, 2011. The objective of the camp
was “Healthy Youth – Wealthy India”. The volunteers cleaned and whitewashed
the school buildings, noon meal scheme centre, Balvadi, Panchayat office and the
local temples, cleared bushes on the sides of the village roads and around the bore
wells, leveled the area to avoid water stagnation, leveled the roads, planted tree
saplings (100 Nos. of Flame of the Forest) , conducted literary programmes and a
survey on “Dropout in School Education” among the villagers, formed a
playground and conducted a free Medical Camp in association with
Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Hospital and Research Centre, Melmaruvathur, n
awareness campaign on the importance of public health and the importance of
hospital treatment during pregnancy period etc. Four special lectures were also
arranged – “Fire Safety and Protection”, by Mr. N. Jayakumar, Station fire
Officer, Department of Fire and Rescue Services, Kalavai; “Fundamental Rights
of public in Indian Constitution”, by Mr. V. Selvapandian, Lawyer; “Victory
through Spiritualism”, by Prof. G. Arutchelvan, Head, Department of Computer
Science and Applications, Adhiparasakthi College of Arts & Science, Kalavai;
and Prof. Mrs. M. Jayanthi, Head, Department of Biochemistry, Adhiparasakthi
College of Arts & Science, Kalavai. The NSS units distributed note books, slates,

geometry boxes, pens, pencils, etc, to school children. Also, 50 plates, 50
tumblers, 1 fan and 3 plastic chairs were donated to the Noon Meal Scheme
Centre.
The College collected Rs.4000 from students as Flag Day Collection. The
students also donated Rs. 3910 to Indian Red Cross Society; Rs. 700 to Indian
Association for the Blind and Rehabilitation Center, Arumbanoor Post, Madurai;
and Rs. 3351 to Udhavum Ullangal, Vellore.
Women’s cell organized a one-day certificate programme on “Fabric
Painting” on 18th August, 2010. The cell also conducted Tamil Oratorical
competition for students on 19th January, 2011. Also, International Women’s Day
was celebrated on 8th March, 2011, in the presence of Dr. Sasikala, Principal,
Adhiparasakthi College of Education, Kalavai. Red Ribbon club organized an
AIDS awareness programme. Youth Red Cross (YRC) organized a First Aid
Awareness Programme in the College on 20th August, 2010, in the presence of
Mr. K. Murali and Mr. C. Chinnappan, Assistant Divisional Fire Officers,
Vellore, and Mr. S. Sakthivel, Fire Station Officer, Vellore
The students of the Department of Biochemistry conducted Science
Awareness programme for School students at the College on 7th January, 2011,
Consumer Awareness programme at Karikkanthangal and Mulluvadi villages on
25th February, 2011, and Diabetic Awareness camp at Kurumudithangl village on
5th March, 2011.
The students of Department of Microbiology organized a Health
Awareness programme for School students on 10th December, 2010.
Red Ribbon club organized an AIDS awareness rally programme on 1st
December, 2010. The Club also conducted “Celebrating Life” programme with
Mr. S. Athisayaruban, RRC Manager and Mr. K. Venkatesan, Resource person.
Citizen Consumer Club was inaugurated on 8th October, 2010. The Club

� The existing animal house has been modified.
� In order to cater to the needs of students, college bus facilities has been
increased.
27. Technology upgradation:
The broad band internet services with M/s. Sify have been renewed and
are being distributed through Wi-Fi technology throughout the campus.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students:
A separate internet lab with 25 systems has been set up for both teachers
and students are accessible throughout the working hours. To facilitate the usage
of the Internet lab, one hour has been allotted for all the final year PG students.
29. Financial aid to students:
The management rewarded the meritorious students from all the classes
and the University Gold Medalists.
30. Activities and support from the Alumni Association:
Alumni Meet was conducted in the college campus on 26th January, 2011,
in which about 350 old students participated. The alumni shared their experiences
and promised to help the current students. Alumni in the marketing profession
took classes on personality development. Old students in the diagnostics division
have helped staff and students in training instrumentation. Alumni working in
Research and Development were able to accommodate students for summer
training.
31. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:
Parents-Teacher Association meetings were conducted on 14th July, 2010
and 16th August. 2010. Feedback obtained from parents regarding the academic
performance of students, campus cleanliness and general amenities are discussed.
Remedial measures are accordingly prescribed.
32. Health Services:
A hospital (G.B. Hospital) was inaugurated in the college campus on 1st
February, 2011, to provide free medical service to the students and neighbouring
villagers. An ambulance has been permanently stationed in the campus to meet
emergency situations. The Adhiparasakthi Educational Institutions, Kalavai and
The Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences,
Melmaruvathur, jointly organized fortnightly free medical camps in the nearby
villages – at Vellambi on 13th November, 2010, V.K. Mangadu on 27

November, 2010, Mambakkam on 11th December, 2010, Kaniyanoor on 25

December, 2010, Parikkalpattu on 8th January, 2011, Pennagar on 22
nd January,
2011 and Chakkaramalloor on 5th February, 2011. The physicians from General
medicine, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Surgery, ENT and
Orthopedics departments treated patients from the nearby villages. The college
also organized a free Medical and Ver\terinary camp at Mechery on 23rd April,
2011.

Three students were selected to represent Thiruvalluvar University in

College hosted Thiruvalluvar University Inter-Collegiate Foot Ball (Men)
and Hand Ball (Men) tournaments on 21st August, 2010 and Thiruvalluvar
University Inter-Divisional Hand Ball (Men and Women) tournaments on 24th and
25th August, 2010, respectively.
Annual Sport Day was celebrated on 19th March, 2011. In the Annual
Sports competitions, the Department of Commerce and Business Administration

students secured the overall championship and the Department of Computer
Science and Applications students were the runners. In the Individual category,
Mr. J. Srinivasan II B.B.A. and Ms. M. Shanthi, II B.B.A secured the
championship.
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:
Mr. J. Hemachandran, M.Phil., Microbiology, has been rewarded with the
waiver of his tuition fees, i.e., Rs. 30,000, for his outstanding performance at the

College students secured 23 University ranks including two Gold medals. The

Many students participated in cultural competitions conducted by colleges
and organizations and got prizes. They secured prizes in Bharatha Nattiyam,
Individual Talent, Drawing, Collage, etc.
36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling Unit:
Students are constantly monitored for their psychological disturbances,
emotional imbalances and healthy inter- and intra-relationships within genders
and corrective measures are suggested. Chronic health and physical problems are
reported to their parents. Some of the grievances addressed by the management
are provision of first-aid box in the Women’s Cell and Physical Education room
and ambulance facility. NSS conducted a guest lecture on “Personality
Development” by Mr. M.S. Krishnan, Krubha Associates, Chennai.

Tally in association with Department of Commerce and Business
Administration successfully trained non-teaching staff on accounting software.
Typewriting and basic computer skills are imparted. Basic etiquette to receive

The National Testing Services, India (NTS-India), Mysore, has approved
the College, as a Regional Field Unit (RFU) for the Districts of Vellore,
Thiruvannamalai and Kancheepuram. The RFU conducts programmes such as
group discussion, orientation programme and workshop. The Tamil Department
looks after the functions of the RFU.

Final year B.Com, B.B.A., B.C.A. and B.Sc. Computer Science and first
year B.Sc. Biochemistry and Microbiology students are trained in type writing.
With the autonomy of the Institution is being set in motion, the Boards of
Studies for various departments, the Academic Council and Governing Body are
being constituted. The syllabi for the courses are under preparation and will be
placed for approval by the Boards of Studies and Academic council. Examination
Cell is being strengthened for the purpose of conducting Semester Examinations
under the Autonomous Scheme. The Examination Cell is preparing the list of
Question Paper Setters and Evaluators for all the disciplines.

Details of the plans of the institution for the next year:
Futuristic objectives of the institution are planned ahead, providing scope and
space for timely execution. Towards fulfilling the same, the departments are requested to
project and place a plan for the current academic year, keeping in mind the vision and
mission of the institution. To improve the employability of the students, the Departments
have been instructed to prepare syllabi for the Autonomous Institution that will
concentrate more on increasing the skills of the students.
It has been planned to start M.Phil. (Commerce) course from this academic year.
It has also been proposed to initiate B.Sc. (Mathematics) course from the next academic
year (2012-2013).
Department of Commerce and Business Administration has plans to introduce
Short Hand course and to continue TALLY, CAT, ICWA and COA courses for
undergraduate students. Department of Biochemistry has proposed to continue DMLT
and ECG courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and Department of
Computer Science and Applications has proposed to coach final year postgraduate
students for UGC-NET examinations, final year undergraduate students for TANCET
examinations and to provide CCNA and Animation courses. It has been proposed to
continue to impart Typewriting course and Hindi and Yoga coaching classes for all
undergraduate students.
Department of Tamil has plans to train students on Document writing, Proof
reading and higher level translation. Department of English has proposed to conduct
Communication skills classes and to continue Business English Certificate (BEC),
Proficiency Test in English (PTE), Employability Skill Test (EST), and Test in Effective
Communication (TEC) coaching classes for undergraduate students utilizing the new
language laboratory constructed. To encourage more number of students to do research, it
has been proposed to continue coaching classes for students appearing CSIR-NET,
GATE and ICMR examinations. There is also a plan to continue coaching students for
State and Central Public Services Examinations.

A proposal has been submitted to invite product and application specialists from
industries, to train the faculty. Staff will be continued to encourage participating in the
seminars / symposia / conferences / orientation or refresher courses to update their
knowledge and to attend workshops to gain skills in new techniques. Institution will
continue its support to staff pursuing higher studies. The departments will continue to
organize national level seminars / symposia / conferences / workshops and approach the
central funding agencies for sponsorship. Departments will be encouraged to apply for
projects from funding agencies and to sign MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with
research institutions and industries to take up collaborative research programmes.
Departments in association with various clubs will continue to involve themselves
in carrying out fresh programmes such as conducting classes for school students,
fortnightly medical camps in neighbouring villages, dental screening camp, conducting
intra-collegiate and inter-collegiate cultural competitions, certificate programme on
Crafts, counseling for girl students, oratorical competition, awareness programme on
women self-employment, free blood-grouping for school students, health awareness
programme, arranging eco-field trips, besides existing programmes, such as blood
donation camp, career guidance programme, first-aid awareness programme, AIDS
awareness programme, one-week NSS special camp, women’s day celebrations.
To improve library services, it has been proposed to introduce new library
software “NIRMALS”. Plans are put forth to purchase new books worth Rs, 1,00,000.00
and to subscribe journals worth Rs. 50,000.00. A proposal has been drawn to set up an
Audio Visual room, and to increase the number of computers in the library.
Head of the Departments are advised to obtain assessment of teachers from the
students and to take remedial actions based on the student feedback.
A proposal to construct a fitness centre and to start coaching camps for sports and
athletics is under consideration.
Regular meetings and support activities are planned to strengthen the Alumni,
Parent-Teacher association and the Guidance and Counselling unit.

A proposal has been drawn to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with a
reputed organization for imparting Soft Skills and Computer Operations to final year
students to increase their employability. It has been proposed to invite more prospective
employers for campus placements. A core team has been formed to initiate interaction
with industries to ascertain their requirements and to train the students accordingly.
Career guidance, communication skills and personality development programmes are
planned for the benefit of students.
The staff and students will continue to be encouraged to participate and present
their papers in various symposia / seminars / conferences and to publish books and
research papers. The students will be encouraged to undergo training and to do project
work in research institutions, industries and hospitals. Experts will be invited to deliver
lectures. Students will be encouraged to visit research institutions and industries to learn
more about recent developments in their field of interest. Group Insurance scheme is
planned for the benefit of students.
