Does your child receive language therapy at school? Do you wish that you could help your child more, but

aren’t sure how? A new 5-week workshop series for parents of students who have language impairment will

be offered this fall by LaVae Hoffman, a nationally certified speech-language pathologist and an associate

professor at the University of Virginia. As a practitioner Dr. Hoffman has worked with children of all ages.

She now specializes in school-age language disorders. The focus of this short series will be explaining

strategies that parents can use at home to support language growth with elementary children who attend

regular education classrooms and qualify for language intervention through special education services.

Workshop will focus on children who have language deficits and what parents can do to support language

development at home during everyday activities, without worksheets or “homework” obligations.

Talking Parents: students’ best hope for better language beginning today.
