Information & Transmedia Fluency – Defined

To reflectively locate, organize, analyze and apply information to a defined

problem across multiple modalities.

Valuing critical inquiry to engage with the knowledge and ethical practices of a

discipline or chosen profession.

Academics

Common responses from faculty…

•“I lecture on what legitimate sources are and then double check when they use sources that they are legitimate.”

•“I assess students in this course in two ways. One, through their presentation of this material, through oral citations, organization of evidence, type and variety of evidence, reliable and credible sources.”

Not enough time in the semester to incorporate information literacy and core curriculum.

Students don’t “care about” good research and Googling is the easy way out.

No clear definition of what students should be capable of doing and what instructors should be teaching.

•“Google searches (or other search engines) and I am always amazed how many students solely use Wikipedia as a source.“
