The school acknowledges the aforesaid and plans to introduce
concepts and teaching techniques which could help the children
realize their potentialities, imbibe good values and apply learning
into action.
Interactive learning by peer group teaching use of over head
projectors, power point presentation, work sheets and backup
sheets based on given study material over and above „Activity
Based Learning‟ ABL will be the highlights of our teaching
strategy.*Modern concepts of mass media ,journalism ,economic
management, fashion world, financial management, share trading
, banking, biotechnology , nano technology , astro physics ,
industrial , microbiology ,information technology , MMWT , IP
are being included in the syllabus for updating of student‟s
knowledge and skills. You can teach a student a lesson for a day
but if we teach him/her to learn by creating curiosity, he/she
will continue the learning process for ever. Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation
(CCE) The larger context of education is to prepare futuristic citizens
for a meaningful and Productive life in a globalised society.
There is a dire need to strengthen the Education system even
more so in s pluralistic society which addresses itself to a
Heterogeneous group. Evaluation is a means of realizing the
extent to which we have been successful in imparting such an
education. Evaluation is an indispensable part of the educational
process as some prom of assessment is necessary to determine
the effectiveness of teaching learning processes and their
Assimilation by learners.
External examinations‟ are largely inappropriate for the
knowledge society‟ of the 21stcentury and its‟ need for innovative
problem solvers‟, Questions if not framed well,” call for rote
memorization and fail to test higher-order skills like reasoning
and Analysis, lateral thinking, creativity and judgment. External
exams make no
Allowance for different types of learners and learning
environments and induce an In-ordinate level of anxiety and
stress.”
This calls for a functional and reliable system of school-based
evaluation.
We need to look at the holistic assessment of a learner which
also includes co-Scholastic area of life skills, attitudes and
Values, sports and games as well as Co-curricular activities. The
CCE scheme aims at addressing this in a holistic manner.
The CCE in classes IX & X is intended to provide holistic profile
of the Learner through evaluation of both scholastic and Co-
scholastic areas spread over two Terms each during two
academic years.
Evaluation of Scholastic areas:
Each term will have two formative assessments and summative
assessments
For evaluation of scholastic areas.
Flyers1 3
Formative Assessments:
Formative assessment is a tool used by the teachers to
continuously monitor student progress in a non-threatening and
supportive environment. It used effectively it can improve
student performance tremendously while raising the self-esteem
of the child and reducing the work load of the teacher. Some of
the main features of Formative Assessments are that it is
diagnostic and remedial, provides effective feedback to student,
allows for the active involvement of students in their own
Learning, enable teachers to adjust teachings to take account of
the results of Assessment and recognizes the profound
influence that assessment has on the motivation and self-esteem
of students, both of which are crucial influences in Learning .Ex.
quizzes, conversations, interviews, oral testing, visual testing
,project, practical‟s& assignments.
Summative Assessment
The summative assessment is the terminal assessment of
performance at the end of instruction .under the end term
summative assessment, the students will be tested internally
based on the following criteria:-
(a) Curriculum and syllabus as circulated by the board.
(b)The summative assessment will be in the form of a pen-
paper test .it will be conducted at the end of each term.

VISHVAKARMA (General Awareness Test)
The various forms of objective questions:
The questions in the papers will be of different types. The recent trend is to
incorporate several complex formats based on graphs, maps, charts, diagrams
or tables to test the candidate's knowledge of a subject in depth. The
candidate is required to understand clearly what is wanted before choosing
the answer. Some such types of questions are given below as examples:
TYPE I : Multiple selection or Multiple completion format.
Example 1 :
Viruses may be classified under :
I. Protozoa
II. Actinomycets
III. Cyanobacteria.
(a) I (b) II or III (c) I or II (d) None
Ans. (d)
Example 2:
Flyers1 16
The chemical digestion of food takes place in which of the following
combinations?
(a) Mouth & gullet
(b) Mouth, stomach & small intestine
(c) Small and large intestine
(d) Mouth & large intestine
Ans.(b)
TYPE II. Chronological /Sequential Format
Example 1:
Which response gives the correct chronological order of the dynasties of the
Delhi sultanat?
I.Khalji IILodi III.Sayyid IV.Tughlaq
(a)I, II, III, IV
(b)I,IV,III,.II
(c)I,III,IV, II
(d) IV, I, II, III
Ans.(b)
TYPE III Matching format
Example 1.
Choose the response in each case which correctly matches the items in both
columns:
a.Brahmo Samaj 1.Discarded worship of images
b.Arya Samaj 2.Disregarded authority of later scriptures
c.Ramkrishna Mission 3.Deep faith in inherent truth of all religions
d.Theosophical society 4.Glorification of Hindu past
(a)A-1,B-2,C-3,D-4
(b)A-2,B-1,C-3,D-4
(c)A-1,B-2,C-4,D-3
(d)A-2,B-3,C-4,D-1
The candidate is here expected to respond simultaneously to four
different items and choose the response without being confused.
Extra care must be taken while solving these questions, as most of
the options may seem nearly correct.
TYPE IV Assertion - Reason Format
An increasingly popular format with the examiner is the Assertion - Reason
questions. This type consists of two statements - one an assertion (A)
followed by another called a Reason (R). Based on a code given, the candidate
has to decide whether the assertion and reason are individually correct or
not; if both are correct, whether the reason correctly explains assertion or
not.
Example 1:
Assertion (A) : Indian economy is referred to as a 'mixed economy'.
Reason (R) : Indian government recognizes the relative importance of both
public as well as private sectors in the process of economic development.
MARK
(a)If both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
(b)If both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A
(c)If A is true but R is false.
(d)If A is false but R is true
A
ns.(a)
Here it is not enough for the candidate to know whether a statement
is by itself correct or not. He must know the consequences and
causes.
TYPE V Figures / Tables format
Questions based on maps pertaining to history or geography may be
asked.

Introduction of Open Text-based Assessment(OTBA)
in the Summative Assessment II of Class IX : The question paper in each main subject will have a separate section of 10 marks for open
text-based assessment (OTBA). The OTBA section will comprise of text material
accompanied by 2-3 questions based on that text. The questions based on text will be of
higher order thinking skills requiring students to apply learning’s to the situation given in the
article/report/mind-mapping/case study/draw inference /conclusions etc. The questions based
on the text will be open ended ,extrapolative, inferential and look at personal response and
justifying a point of view. With the addition of OTBA of 10 marks , the total paper of
summative assessment in a subject will be of 100 marks.
The Board has amended its examination Bye-Laws to make it mandatory for students to appear in
both the Summative Assessments and score a minimum of 25% marks in aggregate i.e. (SA I+SA
II) in these assessments w. e. f. 2013-14.
The Board has also initiated Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skills (ASL) and Open Text
Based Assessments (OTBA) from the academic session 2013-14 in class IX and class XI to focus
on communicative aspects of language learning and problems based on higher order reasoning
skills.
In the light of above initiatives, the Performance Profile for class IX for this year is slightly
modified (enclosed with this circular). The following points are highlighted in this regard:
1. There is no change in the criteria for working out the overall result i.e. marks obtained in both
the SAs will be totalled and then converted into respective grade as per the existing scheme.
2. The grades „E1@‟ or „E2@‟ will indicate that candidate has obtained less than 25% mandatory
marks in Summative Assessments
3. The grade scored in the Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skills (ASL) in English will be a
part of Summative Assessments I and II (70+20) and will be reflected as an aggregate grade in
the Performance Profile. A detailed notification in this regard has been issued to schools and is
also available at the website www.cbseacademic.in.
4. As Open Text Based Assessment (OTBA) will be a part of the Summative Assessment-II
question paper, there will be no need for calculating grades in the subjects containing OTBA
separately.
5. The total marks of the question papers for the subjects having OTBA (English, Hindi,
Mathematics, Science and Social Science) in the Summative Assessment II will be 100 and the
timing will be 3-3½ hours. The overall marks obtained in these subjects will be multiplied by 0.3
to make it 30% which is the weighting for Summative Assessments II. For the subjects which do
not have OTBA element, the question paper will be of 90 marks and the process for computing
30% weighting will remain the same as followed in the previous year i.e. division by 3 to make it
30%.
6. The instruction regarding obtaining 25% mandatory marks in the Summative Assessments
(both the SA I and SA II taken together), ASL, OTBA and skill based vocational subjects under
National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) have been added in the Scheme
of Studies given at the back of the Performance Profile.
7. If mandatory 25% marks have NOT been obtained in the Summative assessments in a subject,
Grade E1 or E2 will NOT be upgraded
