"Living This Week's Readings" We hear the Beatitudes proclaimed in today's gospel. The text is so familiar, it is easy for our thoughts to drift off and not really hear what Christ is saying. Take some time this week to reflect on these Beatitudes. Is there one beatitude that you need to focus on that will enrich your living as a disciple of Christ? Put your trust in Him to help you have that Beatitude attitude!

Plainville - Wrentham - Catholic - Collaborative Year C

Jesus Valued Children, But... This year at Sunday Masses we hear primarily from the Gospel according to St. Luke, the author of the two-volume work of the books of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. St. Luke is believed to have been a physician who later joined St. Paul in his efforts to spread the faith to peoples of many lands. One of the things his writings are known for is how he highlights Jesus’ concern for those who were on the margins of society in his day, including the sick and lonely, as well as women and children. In a beautiful reading often proclaimed at infant Baptisms, Jesus got upset when people were trying to keep the children from disturbing him: “Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Lk 18:16) Je-sus made a point of respecting children (who were often treated with less dignity than adults), and he even held chil-dren up as examples of faith for us, God’s “adult children.” But…

Did you ever notice that Jesus did most of his teaching with adults, not children? What does that have to say about how we hand on and grow in our faith today? Faith for-mation for children and youth have long been and will con-

tinue to be a critical part of how our parishes support fami-lies, assisting parents who have the primary role of educat-ing and helping their children to grow in the faith. The reading and training our councils and pastoral team have participated in helps us to see that faith formation is a life-

long process. Our collaborative parishes are committed to providing multiple options for Adult Faith Formation so that parents, and all of us, can continue to learn and grow in living our faith. We are all called to help hand on the faith to others (young and old), and as the adage goes, “You can-not give what you do not have!” We need more than an ad-olescent understanding of our faith to be able to assist oth-ers in addressing their questions and doubts, yet for many Catholic adults, that age was the last time we did any seri-ous reading or learning about our faith. This is at the heart of what we mean when we talk about “Catholic evangeliza-tion”: continuing to learn and grow in our own faith and helping others to do the same.

Last weekend, parishioners shared their experiences of

Adult Faith formation at Mass. On February 26, we will launch into our wildly popular ChristLife program with the first series, “Discovering Christ.” All three series in this program were run over the past year at St. Martha church hall on Thursday nights, so to reach people whose schedule is not free on that night we moved it to Tuesday nights. This year ChristLife will be held at St. Mary Wrentham church hall, (another advantage to being a Collaborative: shared ministry space).

MAKE THIS LENT YOUR BEST ONE EVER! Join us for DISCOVERING CHRIST, on Tuesday eve-nings at St. Mary parish hall. Dinner will be served each week prior to the start of the program and the evening ends at 9:00pm. Starting on February 26, March 5,12,19,26, April 2, and 9th. There is also a one day retreat on Saturday, March 30. There is NO COST but registration is required and space is limited. Check our website at www.pwc.church/discovering-christ to register. For more information please email: Diana Zeller at dzeller@pwc.church or call St. Mary parish office. Discovering Christ is a seven-week experience where anyone and everyone is invited to hear the Good News and personally encounter Jesus Christ. Join Us!

The offices of St. Martha and St. Mary will be closed on Monday, February 18

in observance of Presidents' Day.

Catholic Appeal From Catholic Education, to Addiction Recovery Services, to Faith Community Nursing for the elderly, more than 50 critical ministries enrich parish life, our Catholic schools, and the lives of those who turn to the Church for assistance. This past week, many of you received a letter from Cardinal Sean requesting your support of the 2019 Catholic Appeal, which provides nearly half of the funding for these life-changing programs, We hope that you will prayerfully con-sider pledging your support. Please find more information about this life-changing work at bostoncatholicappeal.org and make sure to view our latest video about the Appeal.

Please take an invitation card from the pews this week-end, and if you want more information, you will find it in a pamphlet by the doors and on our Collaborative website. Please share this invitation with others, whether they rarely go to church or are deeply involved in our Catholic faith, where we can let Jesus teach us together!

Next Week's Second Collection Next week's second collection will support the Church in those underdeveloped areas of the world. Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the Church in Africa and in Central and Eastern Europe and three important national Catholic missions: the Military Archdiocese, Home Missions, and the Black and Indian Missions. Your generosity will help fund the spiritual, educational and humanitarian needs of the Church around the world.

Subjects that will be discussed include anger, blame, guilt, loneliness and self - image. For those interested in learning more about the program or to register, please contact: Jeanie Mattila at 508-384-8779 jean.matte6@gmail.com or Fred Curl at 781-733-7137.
