Andrew Kraus, Adjunct Professor of Piano at University of Mary Washington, will present

"An Introduction to Peter Feuchtwanger's "Piano Exercises for Curing Playing-Related

Disorders in Pianists as Well as for learning a Functionally Natural Behavior in Piano.”

Feuchtwanger and his exercises are presently little known in the United States yet carry

endorsements from internationally acclaimed pianists including Martha Argerich and Shura

Sherkassky. Kraus considers himself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with

Feuchtwanger and to have earned his endorsement to teach the exercises and his

approach.

Celebration of National Music Week at Riverside Dinner Theater

Students of RMS teachers perform in the lobby of Riverside Dinner Theater pre-show! There are two lovely grand pianos so duets and four or eight hand pieces are possible. Also solo instruments/singers with collaborative pianists are options, too! All styles of music welcome. What a great opportunity to share the joy of music with a lobby of musical enthusiasts! Sign up for half -hour blocks for your students. Times: Wednesday May 3rd - 11:00- 1:00 Thursday May 4th- 5:00- 6:45 Friday May 5th 5:00- 6:45 Saturday May 6th 5:00: 6:45 Sunday May 7th 12:30- 2:30 If you only have one or two students to perform, contact Rana to discuss options. Friends and family can listen to performances in the gorgeous lobby. If you desire, you may purchase soda/tea/cocktails from the lobby bar. Music – An Adventure in Life

SONG AND POSTER DISPLAY

We will have a display of posters and songs at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library for the entire month of May. All RMS teachers are asked to encourage their students to do one of the following: MAKE A POSTER (9 X 12”) using the NMW theme or something related to music. This year’s theme is "Music – An Adventure in Life ” Elin Havrilla will email a copy of a coloring poster to any teacher who requests one. Pno4te@aol.com This activity is usually for younger children. Older students may create their own posters. WRITE A SONG. Students who entered the VFMC Junior Composer’s Contest are encouraged to display their works. Also, teachers should indicate on the music if the student was a state or regional winner or received an honorable mention. All entries should have the student’s name, age and the teacher’s name or studio on it. Posters and songs should be 9” X 12”. Larger entries may not be put on display.

Robert Vandall

Many of our teachers have taught selections composed by Robert Vandall. His music was frequently listed in the NFMC Festival Bulletin Robert D. Vandall 1944-2017: 72, of New Philadelphia died Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the Community Hospice Truman House surrounded by his loving family. Born February 15, 1944 he is a son of Robert A. and Elouise Parker Vandall of Akron. He was a Composer and Arranger for Alfred Music in California.

Our annual Gold Cup Recital was held on March 12, 2017. The recital honored our juniors who have received at least one gold cup in the VFMC Junior Music Festival in Manassas or the VFMC junior composers contest. Cups earned by students ranged from 15 point to 75 points! ************************************************************************************************
