Social Media Must Haves

Facebook Advertising

» Twitter– Every club should have a Twitter account– Ideal for short messages or linking to

Facebook– About 35 words or less (140 chars)

Social Media Must Haves

» Instagram– If you want to communicate with younger

people - use Instagram– Ideal for posting photos and short

comments– Lets you post simultaneously to Twitter

and Facebook

Social Media Must Haves

» LinkedIn– This is mostly a business network– Ideal for Discussions– A number of Rotary Sites including Rotary

International are very active on LinkedIn

Social Media - Other

» GoVolunteer.com.au– This is a site designed for volunteer

organisations to post info about themselves

– Ideal for short term projects where you need some extra hands

– Extra hands may well lead to new Rotarians

Social Media - Other

» There are a number of applications such as HootSuite and TweetDeck that can post to all social media platforms simultaneously.

Social Media Must Haves

Facebook Security

– No it won’t as long as you take some sensible steps

– Adjust Facebook privacy settings– Read the Facebook Guide to Privacy– Think carefully about who you allow to

become your friend– Show “acquaintances” a slimmed down

version of your profile– Disable options, then open them one by one

Facebook will steal my identity, my time, my very soul

Facebook Security

– Mute– Mute offers you the control to avoid people whose

Tweets bother you — whether they’re sending spam or spoilers. You won’t see their Tweets and muted accounts won’t know they’ve been muted

– Block– Block stops people from following you, tagging you in

photos, or accessing your Tweets

– Report– If someone is threatening you or someone else, report

it. When you do, the Twitter Safety team investigates to determine the right response.
