pared with 258536 in the last presidetlal year In a few instances says tho

f Times these figures are not final Butin every instance it is declared theyare the best that can be obtained priorto the publication of the official canvassand will differ from the official figuresvery slightly if at all

CONCERNING the calling of an extrasession of the Legislature Gov WitlsosayshI have no idea of calling an ex-

tra session I do not know of any em-

ergency that requires it The law prot vides for regular sessions to attend to

measures which are usually brought upr for legislation and it does not contem

plate calling an extra session except i-

an emergency The consideration ofr

questions like the county until bill Is

not an emergency but is a question ofthe character that is usually and proper-

ly considered at the regular sessionsIThe desire for legislation on such questtiona no matter how strong does notconstitute an emergency

TUB millions of admirers of Wil-

liam Jennings Bryan will learn with4surprise and indignation that he Is

under arrest in Texas The heinouscrime with which he is charged Is

that ho killed more than 25 Mallard

41ducks a day against the peace andof the Lone Star State whit

provides a penalty of so much a piecefor all over that number killed in aday The penalty however does notprescribe a penal sentence

4SPEAKER CANNON threw some gloomand Harbors Congress

a in Washington when in an address be-

fore that body he declared his opposi-

tIon to a bond issue for the Improve-ment of the waterways of the UnitedStates He said that if the RIvers andHarbors Committee should report a bill

1 at this session providing for the issu1 of 1000000000 worth of bonds in the

next 10 years he would vote against It

THE press of this State deeply sympathizes with Mayor H E Woolfolk ofDanvllle in the loss of his wife whosedeath occurred Saturday night after athreeweeks illness Mayor Woolfolwas editor of the Advocate for manyears and during that time he was held

in high esteem by the press boys His

b wife who was a most excellent ladywas a sister of Editor B G Boyle ofthe Louisville Post-

h ago And this when money is sent todarkest Africa to build churches Trueit is that the shoemakers wife goes

ti barefootedr9iNEw YORK State is building a 4II 000000 penitentiary We hope it will

be big enough and strong enough tohold all the trust promoters who shouldbe sent there and who likely would havebeen sent had Bryan been elected

A MOVEMENT to have the LouisvilleI firms give their employes Saturday as

well as Christmas day making a threeday holiday has assumed large propor-

many big firms having agreed to

it It is a good idea

heard It and not felt better by itShouting that ho was John the

finally captured and sent to an insane

asylumTheMethodist church could not at

comodate more than twothirds of theimmense crowd that wanted to hearRevs Harbin and Guice Sunday nightand an overflow meeting was held atthe Baptist church to which Rev

Guice preached It Is likely that one

of the larger churches will be used dur-

ing this week as it is desired that all who

wish to hear the powerful sermons ofRev Harbin and the sweet singing otRev Guice shall have the opportunity r

of doing soThe meeting at the Methodist church

conducted by Revs Harbin and Guiceis largely attended at its every serviceand great interest is manifested Itwas decided at a meeting of the pastorjf the four churches Saturday that It
