Quinn-Lite Aircrete blocks are easily sawn, chased and drilled with standard tools. A discsaw is ideal for cutting tracks in the wall, and a
chisel is then used to remove the excessmaterial. Tools with hammer actions must not beused to remove excess material.
FixingsCut nails or spiral nails can be used forlightweight fixings. Figure 1: Cavity Wall Tie
Nylon plugs, suitable for hanging kitchen unitsand frame fixers, can be used for heavyweightfixings. Expanded metal fixings or plastic plugsare not to be used.
Not all standard fixings suitable for use with
dense aggregate blocks can be used in similarsituations with aircrete blocks. Quinn-Litetechnical department should be contacted forfurther information on fixings.
Movement JointsMovement joints to be used as per IS 325-2:1995The maximum recommended spacing ofmovement joints should be 5m and bed jointreinforcement should be used at window opes.
Temporary propping should be considered wherehigh walls are being constructed. It is advisableto prop gable walls and any long stretches of wallwhere return walls have not yet been built untilpermanent bracing is provided by the roofstructure.
Party WallsQuinn-Lite B5 or B7 blocks are suitable for use inparty wall construction. There are two types ofparty wall that can be used: a solid block 215mmthick, sheeted on both sides with 50mmMoyisover Calibel insulated plasterboard slab; ora cavity wall comprising two leaves of 100mmblock with a 75mm cavity between them, and50mm Moyisover Calibel board on the room sideof each leaf. The inner leaf of the perimeter wall(flanking wall) adjoining the party wall must also
be lined with Moyisover Calibel board. The partywalls and flanking walls should be plastered priorto the fixing of the Moyisover Calibel boardswhich should cover all areas, including thespaces between ceiling joists. No cut-outs forservices such as electrical plugs and switchesshould be made in the Moyisover Calibel boards.
