Life Before President

Plans, Hopes, & Fears

Will the people accept me?

Can I unite the country and make it stable?

Can I keep us out of war with foreign nations?

What exactly is the president’s role? I’m the first and everyone is looking at me to define the role.

Inauguration in New York at Federal Hall

57 years old, reluctant (hesitant) to be president.

On the 8 day trip to New York, there were huge celebrations: parades, etc. as he passed through.

He wore his “made in the U.S.A.” brown suit with white stockings

He was nervous- As he stood on the balcony of Federal Hall his knees shook.

He added the words “So help me God” to the president’s oath of office.
