BOBBY WILLS

JAMES BARKER BAND

Juno award winners for 2018

An acclaimed musician with a reputation for writing from the heart, Bobby Wills is best known for two things – his signature cowboy hat and a diverse musical personality, combining a classic country sound with a toe-tapping, dynamic twist. His passion for writing songs was once again acknowledged, receiving his second consecutive Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) Award™ 2016 nomination for Songwriter of the Year. A consecutive 2013 – 2014 CCMA Award Male Artist of the Year nominee, Wills was also nominated in 3 categories for the 2016 CCMA Awards.

Ontario-crafted country outfit James Barker Band formed in 2013, and consists of James Barker, Taylor Abram, Bobby Martin, and Connor Stephen. As winners of the 2015 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, they were awarded a release with Universal Music Canada and an all-inclusive trip to Nashville, Tennessee. The band was also given the opportunity to open for Thomas Rhett on the Boots and Hearts main stage in front of 40,000 of country music’s biggest fans and returned to play the mainstage at the festival in 2016.

RANCH RIDING The purpose of Ranch Riding horse should reflect the versatility, attitude, and movement of a working horse. The horse’s performance should simulate a horse riding outside confines of an arena and that of a working ranch horse. This class should show the horse’s ability to work at a forward, working speed while under control by the rider. Light contact should be rewarded and horse does not have to be shown on a full drape of reins. The overall manners and responsiveness of the horse while performing the maneuver requirements, and the horse’s quality of movement are the primary considerations. Pattern class much like the AQHA

REQUIREMENTS: (continued) a) No horses less than 3 years of age. b) Each horse will work individually, performing both required and optional maneuvers, and

scored on the basis of 0 to 100, with 70 denoting an average performance. c) The required maneuvers will include the walk, jog, and lope both directions: and the

extended jog and lope at least one direction; as well as stops, turn to change directions, and back.

d) Three optional maneuvers may include a side pass, turns of 360 or more, change of lead (simple or flying), walk, job, or lope over a pole(s); or some reasonable combination of maneuvers that would be reasonable for a ranch horse to perform.

e) The maneuvers may be arranged in various combinations with final approval by the judge.

f) The overall cadence and performance of the gaits with an emphasis on forward movement, free-flowing, and ground covering for all gaits. Transitions should be performed where designated, with smoothness and responsiveness.

g) No time limit. h) One of the suggested 4 patterns may be used, however a judge may utilize a different

pattern as long as all required maneuvers are included plus 3 or more optional maneuvers are included.

i) Failure to perform a required maneuver will result in a horse placing below all other horses that perform all maneuvers.

APPAREL & EQUIPMENT: a) Equipment with silver should not count over a good working outfit. Silver on bridles and

saddles is discouraged. b) No hoof polish. c) No braided or banded manes or tail extensions. d) Trimming inside ears is discouraged. e) Trimming bridle path is allowed, also trimming of fetlocks or excessive (long) facial hair.
