Key Facts about Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)

• EVD is preventable

• Transmitted from person to person by direct contact

• Only people who are sick with EVD (i.e. have symptoms), or who

have recently died from Ebola, can transmit the virus to others

• There are currently no licensed vaccines or specific treatments for

EVD

• EVD is not spread through drinking water, eating approved food, or

being bitten by insects like mosquitoes or ticks

FORT DRUM NEW YORK Preparation

• USA MEDDAC Fort Drum is taking comprehensive steps to

ensure we are fully prepared should a Soldier or beneficiary

present with Ebola-like symptoms

• We are actively training and monitoring our procedures to

ensure we are in line with the latest CDC guidance

• Will ensure proper waste disposal guidelines are followed

• This is a team effort: Require all assets on installation and

local community

the United States raises concerns

– We are constantly working with the Army’s Ebola experts and

CDC to safeguard safety and health of our patients, staff and

community

• Conduct continued training of MEDDAC staff

• Focus on immediate action tasks

• Proper use of appropriate personal protective equipment

• Continued evaluation of appropriate infection control protocols
