Ashley Bues & Lyndsey Zellers

Educational Tech. Service Project

The “BIG” PictureThe concept is to establish a “scrapbook” of games/fun activities and pass

them from their P.E. classes forward to the home and beyond.

Learning Goals:

To increase the participant’s sense of personal confidence.- All to increasingly view themselves as capable and competent- Success/failure in a supportive group atmosphere

To increase mutual support within a group- Anyone who conscientiously tries should be respected- Success/failure less important than making an effort- Use of teams, points and timed competition consciously

minimized

To develop an increased level of agility and physical coordination

To develop an increased joy in one’s physical self and in being with others.

Rohnke, K. (1989). Cowstails and Cobras II: A guide to games, initiatives, ropes courses, & adventure curriculum. Dubuque, Iowa. A Project Adventure Publication in cooperation with Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company.

• Blob Tag is a game of tag with a twist. The players must form teams and when one team gets tagged they must join the “blob” and try to catch the other teams.

Support Coordination

Wellbeing Confidence

• It is a game for 10-30 students

• The only material needed is a safe area to run. If the area is too large you may need to use something such as a cone to form a boundary.

TEKS Involved:Grade 3 (b) Knowledge and skills.(1) Movement. The student demonstrates competency in fundamental movement patterns and proficiency in a few specialized movement forms. The student is expected to:(A) travel in forward, sideways, and backwards and change direction quickly and safely in dynamic situations;(B) demonstrate proper form and smooth transitions during combinations of fundamental locomotor and body control skills such as running and jumping safely in dynamic situations;(C) demonstrate mature form in jogging, running, and leaping;(D) demonstrate moving in and out of a balanced position with control;(E) demonstrate proper body alignment in lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; (2) Movement. The student applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. The student is expected to: (B) know that practice, attention and effort are required to improve skills.  Grade 4(7)  Social development. The student develops positive self-management and social skills needed to work independently and with others in physical activity settings. The student is expected to: (A)  follow rules, procedures, and etiquette;(D)  demonstrate effective communication, consideration and respect for the feelings of others during physical activities such as encourage others, allow others equal turns, and invite others to participate.

Step #1

Get the group of children to split up into teams of two and lock arms.

Step #2

Pick the team that will be “it” or “the blob.”

Step #3

All teams start running/fast walking to avoid being caught by the blob.

Step #4

Only players on the ends of the blob can tag the other teams.

Step #5

When teams are tagged they are added to the ends of the blob.

Step #6

If a group comes apart then they are caught and added into the blob.

Step #7

If the blob breaks they must forfeit a tag.

Step #8

If a team crosses a boundary then they are automatically caught by the blob.

Step #9

The activity goes on until there is only one team left out of the blob. They are the winners.

Possible Variations:

1. add a foam sword to the end of the blob so when tagged they get a little bop

2. allow the blob to pivot in order to tag to make the activity a little more tricky

3. allow the blob to split in half after it has a certain amount to make the activity a little more complicated
