Amesville Elementary News January 2015 Winter is here and many classroom studies are focusing on snow, weather, and animals. Several classes have written new hopes and dreams for 2015 and even with a few days of snowy weather, students are beginning to get back into the routines of school. Just to note, on many days students are able to be outdoors for recess, so please be sure that your child is properly dressed for some much-needed time to play and learn in the fresh air. We do have some extra coats, mittens, and hats here at school for children if needed. When weather does delay or cancel school, there are several ways that families are notified. Each family should be receiving an automated call (with a wonderful poem, song, or rap from our superintendent, Dr. Wood!). If you have not received a call, please contact the school office at 448-2501 and we will add or update your phone number. You can also check our district website www.fedhock.com or our district Facebook page. The main district telephone number (740 662-6691) will also have a message relating to delays or cancellations. You can check local radio (WXTQ and WSEO) and television (WSAZ, WTAP, WBNS) stations as well. Stay warm! On return from Winter Break, students arrived to a newly tiled and painted cafeteria! Thanks to our custodial staff for this fine work! (On a historic note, the green and white tiles are a tribute to the Ames-Bern High School Greenies). Over, please Calling all Pre-Schoolers! Math Power GroupThis week we started a new lunchtime group called Math Power. The focus of this group is to explore how we use math and wayswe can feel powerful in mathematics. Lots of people, studentsand adults alike, don't enjoy math. We will explore new ways tothink about and what we can do when math gets tough. Thepurpose of the group is to give kids more power and confidence inmathematics. Our group will meet weekly for six weeks total. After this group of boys and group of girls is finished, we willstart another group. If your child is interested, but you haven'tgotten a letter about the group, please send Ms. Thompson a note.

Please visit the Amesville Art RoomBlog: https://amesvilleartroom.wordpress.com/ to see what your children are doing in art!
