The APDS aimed to further enhance the professionalism of the Angeleanean Alumni. The topics were chosen based on the results of the Employer Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Office of Alumni Affairs and Placement Services.

The following are the topics and schedule of the second leg of APDS: January 31, 2015 (Conflict and Stress Management), February 28, 2015 (Personality Development), March 28, 2015 (Health and Wellness) and April 25, 2015 (Professional Ethics and Spirituality). These will be sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and Graduate School Alumni Associations, College of Allied Medical Professions and School of Medicine Alumni Associations and College of Nursing Alumni Association respectively.

In preparation for the University Alumni Day on December 6, 2015, the College Alumni Associations (CAA) staged their own Alumni Day during their respective college week celebrations. The CAAs invited their alumni to participate in exhibition games versus their college basketball and volleyball players. More than the goal on looking for official players for the Inter – Alumni Association basketball and volleyball tournaments in December, the holding of the College Alumni Days aimed to inspire the students with the loyalty commitment and solidarity of the alumni to the college and to the university. The College of Engineering & Architecture Alumni Association held its’ Kumustahan 2014 in June 28 at the AUF Sta. Barbara Campus. This kick off activity of the grand Alumni Homecoming on April 18, 2015 was hosted by the BS Civil Engineering batch 1989. The affair was attended by almost 200 alumni of CEA.

The CEA-CAA plans to hold an annual event of the same kind in order to promote camaraderie among the CEA alumni. The activity will not be made possible if not for the hard work and commitment of the association’s officers who are not only supportive to their college but to AUF in general.

prestigious as being a police or military officer but the work is both challenging and fulfilling. For more than twenty-one (21) years that I worked in the PPO, I have learned a lot. Now that I am presently the Chief Probation and Parole Officer of Tarlac City, I have already handled more than 1,000 offenders through these years and I am proud to say that I am a true graduate of Angeles University Foundation. I will always be grateful to my beloved Alma Mater. I know I was molded as a man for God and humanity in my present profession or shall I say my vocation in helping the less fortunate members of the society.

Noteworthy to mention is that I am the first Criminology graduate of AUF for 21 years to become a Probation and Parole Officer under the Department of Justice. Luckily, after 21 years, another AUF Criminology graduate followed the same calling, she is PPO1 Maria Criselda P. Lopez, Batch 2013 who graduated Cum Laude in her class. Incidentally, she is now assigned in Tarlac City where we work together harmoniously. I am married to a fellow Probation and Parole Officer assigned in Angeles City and we are blessed with three (3) equally good- looking boys. This is my destiny as a man for God and humanity.

Dominador Reyes, Col. Marcelino Ibañez, Col. Andres Agzalda and Col. Marlene Salangad. Of course, Madam Lucia Hipolito, who is now currently serving as the Dean of the college will never be forgotten for her sisterly concern as then the College Secretary and Assistant Dean of the College of Criminology at the same time.

Although I was not born and raised as a Catholic, the recital of the Angelus Prayer every 6 pm reverberating in every corner of the Campus had seeped through my spirit and had somehow made my faith in God even stronger. Shortly after graduating in 1991 and trying to find a place under the sun, as if guided by the Divine Spirit, I applied in a modest agency not popular or known to many, the Parole and Probation Administration under the Department of Justice. Having hurdled the required examinations, I was hired and appointed as a Probation and Parole Officer 1 (PPO1) and was even assigned at the Angeles City Parole and Probation Office in 1993. Working as such with a mission instilled in me the passion to rehabilitate offenders and promote their development as integral persons by utilizing innovative interventions and techniques which respect the dignity of man and recognizing his divine destiny. Handling probation and parole cases is extremely different from what I prepared for and what I have dreamed of while in the College of Criminology. It is a work without a gun issued for our self-protection. It is a work to find the goodness of an offender instead of proving his involvement and guilt over a particular crime. Also a correction outside the prison walls after undergoing the costly and tedious litigation or trials. My dream of becoming a police or a military officer had gradually faded within a year working hard to reform offenders under my supervision with probation and parole conditions. Indeed, being a Probation and Parole Officer is not a lucrative or

I can still vividly remember the main reason why I entered the College of

Criminology at Angeles University Foundation (AUF) in 1987. To prepare myself to become a police or a military officer. To become one during that time brings not only honor to the family but also to become famous like Col. Gringo Honasan during the EDSA Revolution in 1986. People then were still euphoric about the gallantry and patriotism displayed by our men in uniform. I was then an ROTC Officer of the Cadet Corps after undergoing the one (1) year Cadet Officer Candidate Course (COCC) of AUF under the Philippine Air Force as if preparing myself for a real career in uniform after graduation.

Studying for four (4) years in the College of Criminology was not that easy. Subjects were only available or offered in the evening classes except for some subjects that were offered during Saturdays. I had to travel from San Fernando, Pampanga in going to AUF with my other classmates who cannot afford to pay for a boarding house. Studying and finishing the course was not a walk in the park. Financial challenges (thank you to the occasional promissory notes approved by Madam Lucia Hipolito so that I could take the major examinations), emotional adjustment that come with becoming a young adult and the uncertainty of employment after graduation were loads to carry. What inspired me most to keep on studying in AUF was the camaraderie shared not only by the students but by the professors/instructors as well, who, during that time were all practitioners in the field of Criminology. Some of them were Dean Jose B. Maniwang, Atty.

The college of Nursing was fortunate to have been visited by two of its accomplished a lumni who shared the learning they acquired from their practice in the United States of America. On separate occasions, they served as guest lecturers to the students, faculty and alumni of the College of Nursing.

Confirming the need to be at par with innovations and updates in the field of Nursing, Dr. Rocelle D. Besa, BS Nursing 1991 shared techniques in the conduct of accurate bedside assessment, a critical skill in the nursing process. Second year student nurses as well as the faculty members of the College of Nursing were in attendance at the Sports and Cultural Complex on July 9, 2014 for the seminar, “Quick Bedside Assessment”. Bear ing the s tance of a professor as she is, she easily took hold of the audience’s attention from the beginning, challenging the students through demonstrations and questions requiring critical thinking. The speaker shared updates from American Heart Association as she is an instructor of the said organization. Personal experiences were shared to inspire the audience regarding how the knowledge and skills of basic life support can change people’s and even the nurses’ lives. Attendees filled the St. Cecilia’s Auditorium from 8 am to 12 noon.

Equally expressing their gratitude to their Alma Mater, the speakers signified the role that AUF played in the success and accomplishment that fill them as they bring the brand of AUF nursing to their respective institutions. Through their experiences, they were able to emulate how passion for the profession can really pave the way for nurses to touch and save lives, how important having quality education for the future is.
