Despite the prevalence of work teams across the global workforce, striving to lead synergistic, high-performing teams is one of the most difficult challenges that leaders face. Recognizing this, we’ve developed our Leading Teams session to provide research-backed insight and strategies that have shown to be instrumental for team success. Upon completion of this session, you will have acquired relevant knowledge and skills that will help you to design, empower and sustain your own successful teams. Includes team diagnostic assessment.

Learning to lead yourself is the most fundamental challenge to all leaders. We, as individuals, don’t change quickly (or easily), but the environments in which we work do. This creates a dilemma in which we, as leaders, must adjust/flex/adapt to keep driving the business forward and promoting the well-being of talent. Yet, our default mechanism is to try fix everything that is external, which, mind you, is almost never really under our control. We forget that we only have control over ourselves… and that is the focal point of Leading Self.

Leading at the organization level introduces new challenges for managers. How do you mobilize an organization’s internal and external constituents — many of whom you have little contact with or control over — to support the organization and its goals? This portion of the course shines a spotlight on an ingredient that has only recently begun to receive the attention it deserves: core purposecore purpose. Going beyond the conventional strategic management perspective that promotes shareholder value maximization via competitive advantage, we consider the wide-ranging benefits of putting the organization’s core purpose first.

Dr. Matt Hersel | Leading Organizations: Oct. 18-22

Dr. Wayne Stewart | Leading Accross Cultures: Oct. 25-29 Leading across cultures entails combining leadership skills with knowledge of cultural differences to positively influence behavior to effectively address international challenges and opportunities. Culture includes deep assumptions, values and beliefs, which influence perceptions of ourselves and each other. These assumptions often pose obstacles to effective leadership, be it due to home nation diversity, and most especially, in cross-national settings. Additionally, this session includes a technique often used in consulting to identify and address cultural differences to reduce the potential for conflict and thereby facilitate positive outcomes.
