What is the cause of the disease?

Acne is caused by a blockage in a hair follicle/pore. For acne to occur, the pore gets blocked by dead skin. Because of this blockage the sebum gets trapped inside the follicle. The follicle keeps getting filled with sebum like a balloon. At that stage the sebum is infected by a bacterium called P.acnes and it multiplies inside. The follicles is then filled with sebum and bacteria. Acne gets a bit of white inside it called pus. Pus is formed by the dead white cells that fight the P.acnes bacteria. When the follicle has been filled with pus, it eventually bursts.Acne has three different stages:Blackheads and Whiteheads, Pimples and Cysts and nodules. Blackheads and Whiteheads – These are the first stages, the black heads are open at the top and the whiteheads are closed with skin.

Pimple – Pimples are the second stage, the follicle gets infected with the bacteria P.acnes. The bacteria multiply due to the absence of air and presence of sebum and dead cells.

Cysts and nodules – The third stage acne is inflamed nodules and cysts develop. The nodule extends deeper in the skin and causes scars. A cyst is a sac full of infected sebum, bacteria, dead cells and white blood cells.

What are the treatments of acne?

Depending on what type of acne you have there are two ways to treat acne. If you have mild to moderate acne, it should be able to be cured by products that your local chemist will sell. Every bodies body reacts differently to the different types of treatment, so if it does not seem to be getting rid of the acne, try another brand until it works.

If you have moderately severe to severe acne, you will have to go to a dermatologist to be treated. The chemist products won’t help it so further treatment is needed.
