Course Code: ASATH Thursday, February 5 | 9:00 am - 4:00 pm LVCC North Hall, Room N206

With the strong growth of shotcrete construction, the concrete construction industry needs on-site inspectors who are knowledgeable about shotcrete materials, application and quality. Although an inspector may be thoroughly experienced in the inspection of cast-in-place concrete construction, shotcrete has fundamentally different equipment, material selection, crew responsibilities, application techniques, testing, curing and protection that need to be considered for producing high-quality and durable shotcrete.

This program will cover over 40 critical elements of shotcrete applications that on-site inspectors must know in order to properly evaluate and sign-off on acceptance documents for shotcrete. These include an overview on material selections, equipment, placement techniques, finishing, curing, protection, testing, and safety as it relates to the building official or inspector. Upon completion of the course, the Inspectors should have:

• A fundamental understanding of the wet and dry-mix shotcrete process. • Current knowledge of ACI reference material and other Industry standards pertaining to acceptable

shotcrete placement. • Industry-specific knowledge to determine if materials and methods used by the crew meet shotcrete project

specifications. • Sufficient insight to recognize satisfactory application techniques, and actions that may reduce quality of

the final product.

Profile of individuals to attend this course: • Concrete Construction Inspectors or Transportation Construction Inspectors. • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technicians—Grade I. • Engineers or Specifiers who desire or are required to possess additional education to properly inspect

shotcrete operations on projects. • Building officials who desire further knowledge of acceptable shotcrete placement methods. • Concrete producers and material suppliers who supply to the shotcrete projects

Course Code: OAWE1 Wednesday, February 4 | 8:30 am – 10:00 am LVCC North Hall, Room N208

Canada and the United States have both been through hard economic times and a surge in infrastructure activity has seen new markets open with contractors moving to where the work is.

While there are many similarities in the issues faced by these countries, how they are dealt with and how business is conducted are very different, especially in the area of Tendering and Construction Law.

Discussions will provide an overview of challenges including; • Changing culture and demographics of the industry • Procurement methods such as 3P • Technology – BIM • Is the low bid tender process dead or just dying?

The presentation will be followed with an overview of how Canadian contractors are addressing these issues with insight into the major differences between Canadian and American Tender Law. Attendees will then have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session led by Ontario associations’ representatives.

OAWE1 Fee: $95 / $75 if register for both OAWE1/OAWE2 by Dec 15, 2014 (use source code OAWE3) NEW! Concrete Standards, Specifications, Materials and Practices in Canada Presented by the Ontario General Contractors Association and the Ready Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario.

Course Code: OAWE2 Wednesday, February 4 | 10:30 am – 12:00 pm LVCC North Hall, Room N208

Concrete may look the same no matter where you go but doing business in Canada has a number of differences owners, engineers and contractors may not know about.

Topics of discussion include: • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Concrete Standards – specifically A23.1/.2 Concrete Materials and

Practices & Methods of Testing; S413 Concrete Parking Structures; A3000 Cementing Materials; A23.3 Structural Concrete; and A23.4 Precast Concrete and Ontario Provincial and Municipal Standards Specifications

• Differences in Performance specification alternatives vs. Prescriptive specifications; specific cementing materials to achieve end result requirements; and how these can all change the way a project is specified, bid and supplied.

• Intellectual and/or proprietary property of concrete mixes • Producer Product Verification Program

Have your questions ready to be answered during an open forum question and answer session led by Ontario associations’ representatives.

OAWE2 Fee: $95 / $75 if register for both OAWE1/OAWE2 by Dec 15, 2014 (use source code OAWE3)
