A2 Advanced Portfolio Evaluation How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? (Slide Two) I decided to do each part of my CD case and CD in black and white as I felt that the colour scheme alone can tell a lot about the music. I also took into consideration the fact that many of Adele’s CD’s are in black and white with minimal colour – including this single. However, I have made my CD a little brighter and interesting than Adele’s original CD covers as when collecting my research, many people said that Adele’s covers looked ‘dull’ and ‘boring’. The way on the front and back cover the artist is looking away from the camera suggests that she is looking at something or someone else which creates suspicion. My covers and CD design are all very simple to reflect the songs Adele creates including this one which simple yet effective. The only colour I have used on my first ancillary is the name of the songs and the Universal Studios logo. I have purposely made the Universal Studios logo fairly big because they are a very famous worldwide music company and artists that are signed here are very good which could also boost sales. The CD design I decided to do is very simple yet effective. I thought I would try something different whilst trying to connect it to the song and the thoughts of our final product which is that the artist or character would be confused and feel as though her head was messed up which is what this design resembles. Both the front and back cover of my CD follow the rule of thirds which helps bring attention to the image in the background of our artist. This is mainly because the images I have used are large and cover most of the cover. The images I have used of the artist are casual with natural hair and casual clothing to create a relaxed feel to it. (Slide Three) My magazine advertisement has also purposely been used in black and white for the same reasons as the CD cover and also because not many pages within a magazine is in black and white so therefore this should stand out more than most pages. We also carried on the black and white theme within our music video. The pose our artist is doing portrays a very strong attitude by clenching her fists and holding it up to the camera. The tour dates and Universal Music logo again stand out because they are the only parts of the poster in colour. My poster also contains a good use of the rule of thirds with the image of the artist and fists placed in the appropriate places. Again, the images I have used of the artist are casual with natural hair and casual clothing. In both of my ancillaries I have put ‘Lucy May’ in bold capitals in black text to make it more visible than any other text on them to make it stand out.
