REVIEW OF RECENT BOOKS A SECOND PORTFOLIO OF CHEST RADIOGRAPHS. By B. T. Le Roux and T. C. Dodds. Williams Q Wilkins, Baltimore, Md., 1968. 438 pp., 339 illus., $11 .OO. Reviewed by Hiram T. Langston, M.D. The Second Portfolio of Chest Radiographs is similar in format to its predecessor, but is somewhat larger. It consists principally of radio- graphs illustrating a wide variety of conditions and diseases. Each radiograph or set of related radiographs is accompanied by a descriptive legend that brings these into focus. The illustrations are in the main well selected, illustrate the situation in point, and are excellently re- produced; many cover a full page. Supplementing this, each of the 24 topics illustrated is accom- panied by a running discourse that abridges the authors’ views and attitudes. Not all views or opinions are necessarily beyond controversy, but they are usually quite appropriate and acceptable. To cover so much material in the space limitations inherent in such a publication is difficult and undoubtedly has caused, on occasion, dogmatism that perhaps results from oversimplification. This is a magnificent collection of illustrative radiographs, repre- senting a great variety of cardiopulmonary conditions. The illustra- tions are supplemented by discursive material that unifies the subject matter. It is a welcome addition to the library of any physician inter- ested in diseases of the chest.
