A publication of Christ United Methodist Church of Fort Collins
October was a busy month at Christ UMC. Our Church Conference was after worship on Sunday, October 16 with our District Superintendent, Rev. Skip Strickland presiding. We conducted the typical business for our yearly meeting and voted to embark on a capital cam-paign for needed building repairs, up-grades, and to open a new preschool. Steve Merriam’s article in this newsletter has more information about the cam-paign and start of repairs. Thank you to all of the committee chairpersons and folks in various work areas who have made the past year at our church a place where we experience and demon-strate the wonder of God’s love. If you need a copy of the yearly church report, they are available in the church office. On October 25
th we met our new Bishop
Karen Oliveto as she made a “selfie
L to R: Brett Dunbar (CUMC custodian); Sherry Butler; Rev. Nancy;
Rev. Rebecca McFee (chaplain at Columbine Health); Laurel Kubin; Rev. Carol Fox (retired
UMC pastor); Karen Benoit; Bishop Karen
stop” at our church on her tour of
the Peaks and Plains District.
We then proceeded to First UMC for
a breakfast and discussion. Bishop
Karen told us that she is trying to
figure out a way to regularly visit the
congregations in the Rocky Moun-
tain Conference.
Throughout the month we had a mix
of birthday celebrations and said
goodbye to longtime member
Robert Clayton. In between all these
events we came together as we do
each Sunday to worship God
through Jesus Christ. We are so
blessed by our creator to love one
another and reach out in love to our
neighbors.
Looking ahead to this month, we will
continue our preparations for the
mission trip to Cambodia in January,
2017. Two important events will
occur: Saturday, November 12 at
9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall we will package the medications for our trip.
As some of you remember from the
last trip, we receive the medication
in bulk form, count them out into
small plastic bags, and mark them
to be distributed in the clinics in
Cambodia. We can use help in this
endeavor - please join us on No-
vember 12th. On Sunday, Novem-
ber 13 at 5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall we will have another Cambodian
Thank You for all the cards and good wishes following my knee surgery. Dorothy Bondurant
Thank you for partnering with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Through your gift, you are helping to provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster dis-rupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to re-cover on their own. 100 % of your gift for Disaster Response, United States will go to support-ing UMCOR’S response to dis-asters in United States. Through the compassion and solidarity of faithful friends like you, UMCOR is able to provide comfort to those impacted by disasters like earthquakes and storms, food for the hungry, and healthcare to those who otherwise would have none. These are just a sampling of the good works that gifts like yours make possible. Thank you for giving so generously. This gift brings hope to those who need it most. The Friendship Circle Group would like to welcome the women in the church to join them in their monthly group meeting. Friendship Circle meets the first Thursday of each month. It is an evening of sharing and fellowship, with a tasty treat at the end! November's meeting will be held at the home of Val Cornetet. If you need her address, or if anyone would like to carpool, please let Chris Coats know. We hope to see you join our great group!
UMW LIBRARY NOTES
Check out this interesting book in our library: The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg In Afghanistan, where the birth of a son is celebrated and the arrival of a daughter is mourned, a "bacha posh" ("dressed up like a boy" in Dari) is a third kind of child-- a girl raised as a boy with all the opportunities and freedoms boys enjoy. Written by the reporter who covered the phenome-non for the New York Times, this is the story of Azita, a female parliamen-tarian who sees no other choice for her fourth daughter. Also, Ladies: Please let me know the number of books you have read for this year by Dec 1. Some of you may be new to the reading program--if you have any questions let me know. Also, remember to count any extra books from last year and Bonus books. Thanks, Val Cornetet, UMW Program Resources

The Congregational Care Team could use some additional mem-bers and invites you to join us. It is a very rewarding experience!
The goal of the Congregational Care Team (CCT) is to reach out to those in our community of faith who have special needs and to help make our church a friendly, nurturing faith community.
When the Care Team is made aware of someone who needs a little extra encouragement, they do their best to be there with cards, phone calls and visits. During the past month CCT mem-bers sent 26 cards and made 6 phone calls and 5 visits.
CCT meets on the second Tues-day of each month at 11 a.m. to update, review and to assure that the known needs of those in our community of faith are being met.

Join us for our next meeting, Tues-
day, November 22 at noon in the Fellowship Hall.
Old Bibles and Flags: The United
Methodist Men are still collecting old worn American Flags and bibles for
proper disposal. When these items
are no longer useful, they should still
be handled respectfully. A bin on the east side of the narthex has been
designated for the collection of the
flags and Bibles.
Angel Tree Sunday (11/20) – Angel Trees is another ministry of our church that serves people on the margins of our community. As a church participating in the Angel Tree program, we purchase gifts for children on the behalf of and at the request of incarcerated parents. In addition to the physical gifts, the Greatest Gift of All, the Gospel story, is shared with the children. We plan to serve about 25 children and hope that you will continue to make a dif-ference in the lives of these families. The gifts should be new and cost in the $15-25 price range. The gifts should be returned to the church by the date specified on the Angel Tree tag or no later than 12/4. If you have any questions regarding the gift re-quests or are interested in other ways that you might be involved with this ministry, contact Nathalee Novy.
Hanging of the
Greens will be Satur-
day, November 26, at 10 a.m. Join us for a fun morning of decorat-
ing the church for the
Christmas Season! Bring your friends, all are invited!
Watch for a sign up poster in the
Narthex. If you have any questions,

Dear Peaks and Plains Clergy,
Bishop Oliveto and I experienced a deep blessing as this week we traveled 730 miles to meet with over 950 persons in your local church settings. Bishop told me she was in awe by all the ministries of caring and com-passion performed by each of the churches within the district, small, medium and large. She clearly heard that you take seriously the mission of the UMC. "To Make Disciples for the Transformation of the World."
As she shared, her ears and heart are open to listening to ways we can partner together to keep our churches vital and strive to be in ministry with new and younger people. We will all want to envision ways we can reach out to the people in our communities who are on the margins. And we will want to continue to strive through the love of Jesus Christ to open our doors wider, our hearts deeper, and our minds broader.
Thank you again for all the people who turned out, shared in honest ways, and warmly wel-comed our new bishop to her new home in the Peaks and Plains District of the Rocky Moun-tain Conference in the Mountain Sky Episco-pal Area.
Blessings, Walter "Skip" Strickland District Superintendent Peaks and Plains District Rocky Mountain Conference United Methodist Church

An IRA charitable rollover is a very simple gift to make.
If you are 70½ or older and own a traditional IRA, please consider making an IRA charitable rollover gift to your church this year. You can make a gift of up to $100,000 from your IRA to your church this year. On December 16, the Senate passed HR 5771 which included a one-year extension of expired tax provisions retroactive to January 1, 2014. Your gift to your church will:
• Advance the work of your church. • Not be included in your taxable income. • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions. • Not be subject to the 50% limitation on charitable gifts.
Please contact your IRA administrator immediately for assistance with your IRA charitable rollover gift. Deadline for making an IRA roll-over gift is December 31, 2014. Contact the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Foundation for further information, 303-778-6370.

Capital Campaign Update- “A Future with Hope”
Church members attending the annual church conference meeting on October 16
th approved the capital campaign of
$358,830 for facility updates and startup expenses for pre-school. Bob Peterson, President of Associates in Building + Design, will be the general contractor. As many of you know, Bob is a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
During the next few weeks, Bob and his associates will be at the church to discuss the west wing changes prior to the construction phase.
ELITE Roofing is scheduled to replace the original asphalt shingles on Fellowship Hall on November 2
nd and 3
rd. This
was our immediate project to be completed to prevent po-tential water damage.
A marketing firm has been selected for pre-school market-ing. Marketing material and social media emphasis are very important to the awareness and success of the pre-school.
A job description for the Director of the pre-school has been prepared for input from SPR committee. The plan is to hire a director in January 2017.
January 2017 will begin the public phase of the capital campaign, A Future with Hope, to gain the current verbal financial commitments of approximately $226,000 and then the balance of $132,000 from remaining members and outside groups. Materials are being prepared for the public phase.
In summary, Capital Campaign Steering Committee ap-preciated the positive response of church members to the capital campaign.
Re-roof of Asphalt Section of Fellowship Hall This Week ELITE Roofing will be tearing off old asphalt shingle roof and installing new architectural class 3 asphalt shingle on Fellowship Hall on November 2-3 and possibly Nov. 4 if needed. The dumpster and equipment for placing new shingles on the roof will be located on the SW corner of the west parking lot. The south doors of Fellowship Hall will not be available to be used by the public to enter or exit. This was our immediate project to be completed as presented in the Capital Campaign meetings to prevent potential water damage.
