A note from your principal: Jacquelyn Mickel
Great Job on supporting our direct donation fundraiser, we met our goals and truly appreciate how our Langston families support our school in so many ways. Thank you! Assessments Intermediate students will try to complete MAP testing prior to our winter break. Students in grades K-2 will take their winter assessments when they return from the break in January. State Assessments will be administered to all students in grades 3-5 sometime in the spring. The district is coordinating the testing schedule for all of the school sites this year so testing dates will not be released until late January. New Fifth Grade Teacher Jolene Dressman will join the Bobcat teaching staff beginning Jan.1. Jolene is replacing Jen Cartter who resigned last month to pursue employment opportunities outside education. While Jen will be missed a great deal, we are excited to welcome Jolene to her new Langston home. Jolene resides in Topeka, is married with two children and is graduating from Washburn University this month with her teaching degree. Fifth grade parents in Mrs. Carttar’s room are encouraged to attend a Meet and Greet this Tuesday, from 6:00-6:30 pm to meet Jolene. Enjoy Your Family Time On behalf of myself and the entire Bobcat Team, we wish the very best during this holiday season. We hope you all have a chance to spend time with your families, relaxing and enjoying one another’s company. Every staff member here knows how lucky we are to work such great kids and families. Have a wonderful break.

Counselor’s Corner:
The holiday season is upon us already! This can be a joyful yet stressful time for many. Finances can often be a significant stressor at this time. Kids need coats, they’re asking for presents, special meals are being prepared, etc. If you are experiencing financial hardship regarding bills, rent, childcare, etc. There may be resources available through the community. These resources are primarily financially based. Food pantries are also available. Accessing these resources can be confusing and intimidating at times. If you would like help, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 330-2362 or at [email protected]. I will be happy to help you. Toys for Tots provides new unwrapped toys to be given to children during the holidays. Here is the link- http://www.lawrence-ks.toysfortots.org/default.aspx. You will need proof of residence in Douglas County and proof of each dependent you are shopping for. You may “shop” for the toys you need and take them with you free of charge.
