A Gathering Place for First Nations, Metis & Inuit StudentsFirst Nations Status, Non-Status, Metis, and Inuit students at Fanshawe will find culturally supportive services and programs at the First Nations Centre (FNC). The FNC provides counselling, referrals and student activities, and is also the meeting place for First Nations Post-Secondary Education Counsellors and their students. The FNC features a computer lab, study lounge, Elder/Meeting room as well as kitchen facilities.

First Nations Studies & Set Aside Seats at FanshaweGeneral Arts & Science – First Nations StudiesGraduates of the program can take advantage of credit transfer to Western University. To complete a one-year certificate or two-year diploma, students would take the following courses:

One-Year Certificate Reason & Writing 1 | Communications | Discovering the Humanities | Discovering the Social Sciences | Traditional Teachings | Contemporary Teachings | + 4 ElectivesTwo-Year DiplomaUpon completion of the one-year certificate, choose 3 full-year university courses: First Nation Studies | Forms of Fiction | History of Western Art | Philosophy | Sociology | Psychology | Women’s Studies + 4 Electives

Indigenous Women - General Elective (Winter Semester)This course will examine the role of Indigenous women in customary Indigenous society and trace how the perspective of Indigenous woman has been drastically changed with contact with European people, through attempts at colonization, and objectifying and disrespecting the sacred role of Indigenous women in media. This course also responds to the request of the local Indigenous community to offer more courses with Indigenous content. Nursing (BScN Degree) – Aboriginal Set Aside SeatsThe school of Nursing recognizes that Aboriginal Peoples are not represented adequately in the nursing profession and therefore welcomes applicants. Eligible Aboriginal candidates may be admitted to the Nursing program from one of the two paths: 1.) Aboriginal candidates who have successfully completed the program’s admission requirements, and whose admission average has met the annual program admission average as determined by the School of Nursing will be considered for admission along with all the other program applicants. 2.) Aboriginal candidates who have successfully completed the program’s admission requirements, but whose overall average has NOT met the annual program admission average as determined by the School of Nursing will be considered on a discretionary basis to fill our four seats (two seats at the UWO site and two seats at the Fanshawe College site) set aside for applicants in this latter category.
