This year the season got off to a magnificent start. Back in May our Flotilla involved dozens of boats cruising through York and back to the Marina. The spectacle was followed by a barbecue, live music and prize-giving at The Waterfront Café. I’m sure you will agree it was a great success and the boats all looked amazing! We are hoping to repeat this event and make it an annual event at the start of each season. It was a really well supported social occasion, with boats of all sizes and types getting involved. Prizes were awarded for the Best Dressed Boat, Best Dressed Crew - the bar was set incredibly high this year. We’ll all need to get our thinking caps on early to stop Mr Spurgeon retaining his crown! It would be fabulous to see some of our new members represented next year. If any of your have any suggestions or ideas please send them to Gemma in the office on [email protected]. Now is the time to start thinking about winterizing your boat. A little effort now can save you from much greater expense should you suffer damage over the winter period. Forms have been enclosed with this newsletter, so if you want Chris Davey of River Ouse Marine Engineering to winterize your boat, please complete, sign and return to the Office.

We will be lifting boats every week in the run up to winter. Book your slot at the office. You can be present if you wish. Chris has requested that engine bays, generators etc are kindly left clear of obstructions so he can access them easily.

Please remember to indicate whether

you want electricity or not whilst on hard standing as this will dictate where you are placed in the Marina. Those boats not requesting electric will be placed in areas away from electric points. Anyone hooked-up to the electric will be charged the weekly rental from the date they are lifted to when they go back in.

In recent years wind has proved very destructive, damaging canopies in particular. Protect your boat by shrink-wrapping because we all know canopies can be very expensive to repair. It also keeps your boat nice and clean over the winter. Call the office for a quote if you are interested in this service.

If you wish to do the works yourself, please keep the following in mind:

• Makesuretheengineisdrainedorhas been winterized appropriately. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. • Checkantifreezemixisstrongenoughin coolant systems • Closeseacocksifstayingafloatto preventsinking• Makesurethebatteriesareonchargeor removed • Removecanopiesandreplacewitholder winter canopies or tonneau covers if you have one. Be aware of the weight of snow • Leaveadehumidifier, moisturecrystals or small heater running to prevent damp inside the cabin

Winterizing Your Vessel - Are you ready for winter?

Thinkingofsellingyourboat?- Just let us know

H pontoon - Next pontoon to be upgraded

Pontoon Gates Code - Available from reception

SaveonYourMooringFeesfor2016- Discounts for early payment

RYACourses-IWHC&SRCVHF - Make boating safer and more enjoyable for all

Gold Anchor Award Scheme - Fingers crossed

Events at The Waterfront - Let’s stay sociable in the winter months

Those of you moored on H pontoon will be pleased to hear you are getting a new pontoon! As part of our continued investment and development of the marina we will be replacing H pontoon over the winter period. We are currently in the process of building the steel frames and

getting everything in place for the work to be finished in time for the start of next season. Berth holders that are staying in the marina over winter will need to be moved at some point to a temporary mooring. We will obviously contact those of you affected nearer the time.

We’ve had a flurry of sales towards the end of the season and are in need of new listings. Anyone wanting to put their boat up for sale is asked to consult with the sales office so we can arrange your contract over the next few months. In addition, we can bring you straight down to the sales area if

you are coming out for winter.

If you take up an annual contract you can continue to use your boat, but remember this is not refundable on the sale of your boat. Alternatively you could go on to a brokerage storage contract which is

payable on a month by month basis.

Please contact Phil Robinson on 01904 621021 or by e-mail [email protected]

All of the pontoons are now fitted with individual gates. These are now ready to go into use and the locks will go live on the 1st November. In consultation with the THYA and local emergency services it has been decided to make the code the same for all

gates. Berth holders will have been sent a covering letter with details of the new code. If you have not received one for whatever reason please contact reception.

The pontoons are now as secure as is

possible; please DO NOT to allow people to follow you on to the pontoons. Should you spot anyone suspicious please report it to the office without delay.

You will all shortly be sent your renewals for next season. If you don’t receive it please contact the office. Fees for the 2016/2017 season are £240 per metre for annual contracts, and we offer discount to those berth holders paying before Christmas. You will save 3% if paid on Credit card or 5% if paid by other means if you have paid in full AND returned your Berthing License Agreement by Thursday December 23rd 2015.Please note the final date for confirming

moorings and payments of fees will be the 28th February 2016. We require one month’s notice of cancelation of your annual contract. This allows us to offer available berths to new boats or anyone wanting to change moorings.

We currently have limited berth availability for moorings 38ft upwards, so if you are intending on upgrading to a larger boat please let the office know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

More and more Insurers are insisting on boaters taking the Inland Waterways Helmsman Certificate (IWHC) before they will insure boats.

The IWHC assumes no prior knowledge and so is ideal for those new to boating. The more seasoned boater will learn plenty of tricks of the trade and tips to make their

boating safer and more enjoyable.

The Short Range Certificate course is for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio and is the minimum qualification required by law to use VHF or DSC equipment. It is a one day, classroom-based course and will generally be held on the first Monday of the month over the

winter period.

If you would like to book please contact Michael on 01904 621 021 or [email protected]

Tasty Winter WarmersThe team has been working hard to bring in a new range of handmade cakes and a Winter Warmers menu which will leave you feeling as snug as a bug in a rug. Why not pop in and give it a try?

10% Discount CardThe Waterfront Café is now offering a berth

holder 10% discount card. You will need to apply for a new card by filling a form in which is available from the café. Each Boat is entitled to one discount card free of charge, with additional cards charged at £5. Halloween Fancy DressThere will be a Halloween party on Saturday 31st October; the fabulous Gypsy Bill Williams performing live. Everybody is

encouraged to wear fancy dress, for what promises to be a spook-tacular night out. If you want to dine with us on the night we are taking advance table bookings ONLY. Please give us a call to book your table now.

Social MediaKeep an Eye out for updates on these events on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/yorkmarina or on posters around the venue.

We have applied for the Gold Anchor Award Scheme which is a credible measure of marina quality. Many of you filled in the customer questionnaire, which proved very useful for our application by giving us an insight into what you want from the Marina.

Over the course of the summer the Marina has undergone a series of rigorous inspections, which have all now been completed, and we

are awaiting the final outcome of the report.

We are very positive we will do well, as all the staff have worked incredibly hard towards this accreditation.

Your feedback is always valued. Any ideas or comments you may have can be sent to us via our Facebook Page or made in person at the office.
