Jesus connects the Bible to life The people of Nazareth do not like Jesus and drive him away In the 4th Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Liturgy presents us with the conflict that arose between Jesus and the people of Nazareth. This happens on a Satur-day during the celebration of the Word in the community hall, after Jesus reads a text from the prophet Isaiah.Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah so as to present his programme of action and immediately adds a very brief comment. At first, they are all amazed and happy. But when they realize the significance of Jesus’ programme concerning their lives, they rebel and want to kill him. These kinds of conflicts exist even today. We accept others so long as they act in conformity

with our ideas, but when they decide to welcome into the community people whom we exclude, then we are in conflict. This is what happened in Nazareth. Prayer: Lord Jesus, we thank for the word that has enabled us to understand better the will of the Father. May your Spirit enlighten our actions and grant us the strength to practice that which your Word has revealed to us. May we, like Mary, your mother, not only listen to but also practice the Word. You who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen. Jesús une la Biblia con la vida Jesús no agrada a la gente de Nazaret, y lo expulsan En este 4˚ Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, la Liturgia nos pone delante el conflicto surgido entre Jesús y la gente de Nazaret. Sucedió un sábado, durante la celebración de la Palabra en la sala de la comunidad, tras la lectura que Jesús hizo de un texto del profeta Isaías. Jesús cita al profeta Isaías para presentar su plan de acción e, inmediatamente, añade un brevísimo comentario. En un primer momento, todos quedaron admirados y contentos. Pero, cuando se dieron cuenta del alcance y del significado del programa de Jesús respecto a sus vidas, se rebelan y quieren matarlo. Conflictos de este tipo se dan, incluso, hoy. Aceptamos al otro en la medida en que se comporta de acuerdo con nuestras ideas, pero, cuando el otro decide admitir en comunidad a personas que nosotros excluimos, surge el conflicto. Es lo que sucedió en Nazaret. Oración: Señor Jesús, te damos gracia por tu Palabra que nos ha hecho ver mejor la voluntad del Padre. Haz que tu Espíritu ilumine nuestras acciones y nos comunique la fuerza para seguir lo que Tu Palabra nos ha hecho ver. Haz que nosotros como María, tu Madre, podamos no sólo escuchar, sino también poner en práctica la Palabra. Tú que vives y reinas con el Padre en la unidad del Espíritu Santo por todos los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
