Died in Christ Mass of Christian Burial was held for George
Dahlheimer this past week. Please keep George and his family in your prayers.
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the
Nativity (or the birth) of St. John the Baptist. John
the Baptist is an important figure in all four gospels. The only record of the birth of John the Baptist appears in the Gospel of
Luke, and it is at the heart of this weekend’s Gospel Reading. In
all four he is identified with the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, but
in Luke, the association between the two is taken back in time to
the announcement of the birth of each character. The parents of
both John and Jesus are depicted by Luke as pious Jews who do
all that the law requires of them.
A key player in this event is, of course, John the Baptist’s father
Zechariah. Zechariah was a Jewish priest, but when the
Archangel Gabriel revealed to him that he would father a child,
Zechariah refused to believe it. As a result he was rendered
speechless until John was born. Zechariah had total trust in the
Lord, however. Although it was traditional at that time to name
the first son after the father, he and Elizabeth had been told that
they were to name him John. As reported in the Gospel, Elizabeth
said, “He will be called John.” The family protested at which
time Zechariah wrote, “His name is John.” When he did that,
Zechariah could speak once more. He did not say “should be;” he
said “is.” The trust shown by Zechariah is an example to us that
we must trust in God, not just when it is convenient, but all the
time.
“Never trust anyone completely but God. Love people, but put
your full trust only in God.” — Lawrence Welk

Vocation Camps
July 9 – 11 Sand Dune State Forest in Big Lake
Vocations camps seek to: Provide a Catholic environment where young men can come to know Jesus Christ and his invitation to be Men of the Gospel. Foster a deeper life of prayer and devotion. The young men encounter Jesus in daily Mass, His Mother Mary in the Rosary, and His Mercy in the opportunity for confession. Explore how discernment works for Catholic men and the vocational calls open to them: marriage, priesthood, diaconate, religious life or dedicated single life. Encourage participants to commit themselves to daily prayer and ask God for an openness and willingness to follow Him. Camp Details Cost: $25 (non-refundable): Scholarships are available. Housing: Tents (for the overnight camps) What to bring to overnight camp:
• Camping clothes and rain gear
• Bible Rosary
• Shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste
• Swimsuit, towel and sunscreen
• Tent/sleeping bag For more information, email [email protected] or go to www.stcloudvocations.org.
Adorers Needed 1:00 AM Friday and 2:00 AM Saturday
Interior Progress... In today’s culture, the idea of interior
progress is drastically undervalued;
many times it’s considered a waste of
time or something from naive ancestors.
Usually, only exterior and more
palpable progress is worth anything.
The main difference between the two (material and spiritual) is
that material progress remains outside of you. It will offer you
certain positive sensations, yet it is always colored with a fleeting
and inconsistent kind of occurrence. An interior progress, on the
other hand, means that it is you who are changed. The time you
spend in Adoration may surprise you...
There is nothing like the atmosphere of a quiet chapel or church,
the smell of incense and the splendour of the monstrance to help
you understand the truth of what is happening in Adoration. We
are truly before Jesus Christ, His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. The more you sink into that silence in front of the Host, the more
you will realize that the only response is awe and wonder at the
greatness of our God.
The Eucharist: Jesus truly present—Body, Blood, Soul and
Divinity!
May our Adoration never cease. For more information contact
Colleen Solors, 763-441-7179, or Eva Jahnke, 763-257-7109.
We guarantee it will be the best hour of your week!

Prayer for Children Separated From Their Parents Lord we bring before You all children, especially those separated from their parents. Lord, You know and love each child. Protect the heart, minds and bodies of these vulnerable members of socie-ty. May they be treated with compassion and love that they de-serve and protected from harm.
We pray that You would reveal Yourself to each and every vulnerable child throughout the world. Give each one a true understanding that they are loved by their parents. Give them a deep sense of your peace and love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Pope Francis “A person’s dignity does not depend on them being a citizen, a migrant or a refugee. Saving the life of someone fleeing war and poverty is an act of humanity. “ June 20, 2018
Boston Cardinal O’Malley “On too many occasions our government has taken a posture and established policy which is in principle and in practice hostile to children and families who are fleeing violence, gangs and poverty. The United States is now openly before the world using children as pawns to enforce a hostile immigration policy. This strategy is morally unacceptable and denies the clear danger weighing upon those seeking our assistance.”
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, president of the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) “Families are the foundation element of our society, and they must be able to stay together. While protecting our borders is important, we can and must do better, as a government and as a society, to find other ways to ensure that safety. Separating babies from mothers is not the answer and is immoral.” June 13, 2018.

Although we did not place in the top three councils we did have a very good showing. Now its time to start collecting for next year.

You are designed to shine. The light of Jesus living inside us,
shining through us, where ever we go—the light shines. Like a
firework, you are designed to be a bright and joyous gift to the
world.
The 4th of July is right around the corner, so get ready for some fireworks! Roadside tents are going up and you can buy sparklers at your local grocery store, so they’re safe? Wrong. Each year Emergency Centers see 10,000 injuries related to fireworks, 2,500 of which are due to sparklers alone. In 2016 four people died of their injuries. There are also 20,000 fires involving cars, buildings and surroundings due to fireworks each year.
Sparklers and cones that let off sparks and confetti are legal in Minnesota. Sparklers can burn at temperatures up to 2,000 degrees, easily burning skin and igniting clothes. Little arms are very short for holding sparklers; consider using glow sticks instead.
Bottle rockets, firecrackers and Roman candles are illegal in Min-nesota, but available in Wisconsin where they are legal. Chances are you might see some of these at your summer picnics. If a child is injured by fireworks, immediately go to a doctor or hospital, or call 911 if the injury is serious. If an eye injury occurs, don’t allow your child to touch or rub it, as this may cause even more damage. Always keep a bucket of water handy for used and dud sparklers
or other fireworks. A fire extinguisher and first aid kit should be
readily available. Children must be supervised by an adult at all
times. As with swimming, consider identifying an adult as the key
“kid-keeper” that will be in charge of watching the youngsters.
While July 4th marks Independence Day for Americans, for thousands of vets the fireworks can be a trigger for difficult memories. For the many vets dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the sound of the fireworks popping is all too similar to the sound of bullets. Watch for lawn signs that indicate “Combat Veteran. Please Be Courteous With Fireworks(www.MilitaryWithPTSD.org) Heightened awareness and respect to the unique needs of each veteran is perhaps the best way to support these heroes. On a holiday meant to honor those who fought for our Independence in 1776, we must be considerate of those who fight for our freedoms today. If you know that your neighbor served, and you’re planning to have a fireworks display in your backyard, it might be a kind and thoughtful act to discuss your plans with them first. PTSD is a serious condition many soldiers find unmanageable; some find help with service dogs.
Pets are more sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights and strong smells, so on these days when fireworks are likely to set off, it's best to leave your pets safely indoors with a radio or TV turned on to hide jarring noises. Pets who are usually outdoors should be brought inside. If you’re taking your pet along to an event, keep them leashed and under your direct control at all times. If you use fireworks at home, make sure you thoroughly clean up the area before letting your pets have access again.
Saint Barbara is the patron saint of fireworks. Invite her to pray
for the safe use of fireworks at your Fourth of July celebrations
this year!
