PV MessagesMessage from Co-Op President,

Frank FieLDs Time is going by fast. It won’t be long until the snowbird season comes to an end. But we still have a lot to enjoy until then. The 50th anniversary party for Plantation Village is on March 2nd and there are over 150 people signed up to attend. I hope the weather cooperates because this should be a really great time for all residents. I look forward to seeing everyone there. On another note, you have probably noticed some homes being torn down in the community lately. We are making way for many new homes to be installed. There should be at least six new homes installed this summer and fall. This helps everyone in the community by raising property values and making the park look newer and updated. The bazaar was a success again and the group of volun-teers did an excellent job as usual. It was nice to see the CO-OP and the MHOA working together towards a common goal. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy month of March and as always look out for your neighbor.

Frank Fields

Message from PV Manager merry sinacOre

Hi Everyone. Well, we got through the bazaar and did well. The baked goods were the big hit. I can tell you I sampled all of them and they were excellent. We thank everyone that helped and participated in the bazaar. This is a great way to con-nect with your club house and community. The PV Voice is a great way to stay informed as to the events going on in your community. Mary Lou and Connie are still trying to make sure every-one that wants to have an automatic check taken from their account and presented to our new bank BB&T, will. BB&T is much more accommodating and will be able to help with any issues, if they arise. They have several ways to pay your lot fee so if you need assistance, come in to the office for more info. Attention Pet Owners - Please be aware of the fact that Florida State Law dictates all pets must be on a leash at all times. While walking your pet in Plantation Village you must always carry a bag and pick up after your pet. Pets are not allowed in the common areas. Thank you for your cooperation. Hope you are enjoying all of our activities in the com-munity. We ask that you take care of all of the community, including the equipment, so that it will stay in good con-dition. Plantation Village is a beautiful park. It’s a great time of year to get out and enjoy it!

Merry Sinacore

PV MessagesMessage from MHOA President,

terry yOrke Thank you, judges, for your hard work in judging the Super Bowl Rib Cook-off. The event was lots of fun with lots of wonderful food. Bragging rights for the best ribs go to:

1. Chuck Deleu 2. Roy Klementti 3. Leroy Hauck

The bazaar was a great success surpassing last years totals even though it seemed to be not as busy. It is nice to see so many village residents involved from donating, baking, setting up and selling. Pick-ups were done by Re-gis Thornton and company. It was a great way of meeting everyone and being part of your community. Winner of the Publix gift certificate was Gary Gibbins, Mango St., and the scratch cards were won by Chuck Deleu also from Mango St. Congratulations to both of you. Plantation Village’s 50th Anniversary is on March 2nd so be sure you sign up for the meal as well as the variety of events which will be going on that day. There will be additional events taking place as well, plus 50’s, 60’s and 70’s live music by Kenny James who lives here in Plantation Village. The annual MHOA meeting and elections will be taking place on March 9th. This date has been changed in order to accommodate the 50th Anniversary party. This change will be reflected in your Voice calendar. A sign up sheet will be posted in the mail room area for those who wish to join the board. We would like to have at least six directors on the board. Do not miss out on the monthly barbeque held at the clubhouse the third Friday each month from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. The next one will be on Friday, March 15th. The Pancake Breakfast will be held on March 16th from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Also the free lunch will be held on March 21st at 11:30 a.m. Please be sure to sign up in the mail room for the free lunch so the conveners can prepare enough food for everyone to enjoy. Plantation Village is a great place to live so come out and have fun and keep safe.

Terry Yorke

History on Plantation Village by Val Fields

June 4th 1969, Dr. Sutton finished paying Nellie B. But-terfield the final payment and was given the deed for Plantation Village Mobile Home Park. He opened the park and the newspaper covered the story on how nice the park was. Before Dr. Sutton got the deed he was going to divide the park in half. Naming one side Plantation West and the other Plantation East. The west side was finished first. His partner at the time was Buster Moss. He was the brawn and Sutton was the money. Moss grew ill and passed away before he could retire and live here. He did get the laundry room done in 1969 and the mail room in 1970. He passed away in 1971. Bev Moss on 16 Apple has lived here since 1971, after her father, Buster Moss passed. The brick entrance opening was all they had in front. They had a chain link fence all around the park until the road 63rd Avenue W was widened in 1980. The vinyl fence was put up around the pool, and it is still there today. When 63rd was widened they widened it from 41 all the way down to 15th. Beginning in 2003 and finishing in 2004. That is when the wrought iron fence and brick pillars were put in. Up until then, the East side gate was manual, and 1 or 2 people would close it at night and re-open it in the morning. Needless to say, they were really happy when the new electric fence was installed. One or two people were assigned every night for crime watch. Dick Edwin’s wife ran that and she had a home base radio at their home, and the security person on crime watch got a walkie talkie. That is how they communicated back then. Bob Stewart, 21 Apple, was a young man in the 50’s. He hunted this land and says it was corn and rye fields. He said Sutton and Moss harvested the palms out. Says if it ever had celery on it, it was after 1958 when he left. He stated Hawaiian Village was a farm back then, too. He said that Dick Butterfield did all the plumbing in this area and the Butterfields lived in the 2nd house where 5th Street W is now. Bob’s mother would send him off hunting with hush puppy mix, lard, and a cast iron skillet for him and his hunting friend Herman Gelson. Herman lived on the creek by the canal. They stocked the pond here from the fish they pulled out of the swamp holes before 5th Street W was a street. He moved away in 1958 and came back to live in this park in 2018. Bob quoted, “Moving here is like coming home and reliving your roots.”CO-OP Plantation Village becomes a CO-OP and was purchased on September 12th 2005. Dr. Sutton passed away at the start of 2005 from a skiing accident complication. His three children and wife ran the park for about 3 months. They gave the homeowners the 1st right to buy the park. The homeowners scrambled to-gether, borrowed from friends, family, banks and anyway they could to buy the park. And they did it!!

Thanks to them and the future boards, managements and maintenance workers. Fifty years later it is still the T.L.C. Park.My thoughts on Plantation Village We moved here in 2012. It is a nice, friendly, clean park with neighbors looking out for each other and very rea-sonable living. Frank was elected President of the CO-OP in 2015. He hasn’t stopped making improvements, not to mention trying to make sure everyone gets more bang for their buck. Whether it’s a new lift station, TV, phone, roads, or speed bumps that won’t tear up your car if you slow down. The activities have doubled. He is a homeowner also and wants what’s best for his community because he lives here also. I am very proud of his work, sweat and joy he has devoted here. I also know a lot of you appreciate it or you wouldn’t keep voting him in as President. I don’t know very many men that would be giving of their time and brawn, volunteering for such a thankless job. Even though it takes away a lot of our personal life, it’s ok. Because everyone, whether they live here or are just visiting, reaps the benefits of his hard work and dedication, and my tolerance is very short. It truly is the T.L.C. park after 50 years, and going strong!

1986 Donald and Agnes Lannon are Fran Mazzei’s parents. Fran and Peter Mazzei bought the homestead (240 Man-go St.) in 2003 becoming 2nd generation PV owners. They liked the park’s atmosphere and the people were always friendly and nice to the kids. The same is true today. 1987 Earnie and Jean Jones Earnie says, “They have always been happy here.” Jean is a 2nd generation to the park. Her mom and dad, Bob and Dorothy Lehman purchased in 1984. Bob is at Life Care and he is now 101. Jean’s sister, Janet Hicks, also lives in the park. Earnie was one of the first in the park to own a computer. He made a data base of all of the people in the park with their name, address and phone numbers. This later saved the office a lot of time after the park was purchased from the Dr.’s family. The information was not transferred to the Co-Op. Earnie also did the income tax for the homeowner’s association and tried to work with the Dr. to negotiate rents for the homeowners. The renters had 45 days to buy the park with 1st right of refusal for the 346 lots. 1988 Helen Finkbinder Helen says her favorite thing to do in the park is the games. 1988 Dick and Fran Florence Fran looks forward to Euchre every Wednesday, it is Fran’s highlight of the week. Her brother bought in the park the year it opened.

1991 Don and Sandy Ingram (Molly) Sandy feels the park is one of the nicest parks around. They have enjoyed living in the park. 1991 Anna Mazzone Anna enjoys working and playing Bingo every week. 1992 Betty Fellows Betty says, “The people are all so kind and friendly.” 1993 Ray and Barbara Stevens Barb says, “The park has really improved over the years.” 1994 John and Loreta Mango purchased a house on 6 Orchard St. that was later destroyed by a hurricane. They then purchased on Mango St. John and Ruth Mango pur-chased their home in 2005. Both John and Ruth feel the love of the people here in the park and they have enjoyed watching it grow.

1996 Raymond and Norma Fuller They were very active when they moved in the park. They have met a lot of friends and are very happy here. 1997 Shirley Mosher Shirley’s parents lived in Hawaiian Village but she likes this park better so she bought in PV. She likes that everyone works well together and it makes a great park. 1999 Char and Alvin Mirotznik Char says, “It feels just like home and she is very happy here.” 2000 Edward and Bobbie Fishpaw 2nd generation, Ed’s mother and father, Adele and Ed-ward Fishpaw bought in 1977. Bobbie says, “It is comfortable to live in here with all of the neighbors helping neighbors. It is a very nice community to live in.”

Shuffleboard Wow, where has the 2018-19 Ladies Shuffleboard season gone? Both teams began last November, with eight ladies on each team and very few subs. Then January comes and both teams must increase to ten ladies per team and that was accomplished along with several subs. It has been an amazing journey for Linda Tobias and myself to witness the willingness, the effort and the dedi-cation these fun ladies have exhibited. Many of them were hesitant, intimidated and had never played shuffleboard competitively, but they were willing to give it a try. We have seen improvement in the players, but more importantly, the gals are having fun and happy with their progress. The interest in shuffling has increased for both women and men and on Fridays at 1:00 PM, almost all courts are filled.

A big event is coming to the PV shuffle courts on March 4th and March 5th when we will host the Bradenton Sun-coast Shufflettes tournament. It will be a two day event with championship and consolation finals. On the first day, Monday, March 4th there will be a PV BBQ from 11:00 AM thru 1:00 PM, so come out to the courts and watch the competition and enjoy the cook out.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORDaLe and June FOrD

by Ted Ormiston Dale was born in Columbia, Pennsyl-vania and June in Pe-jepscoc, Maine. Short-ly after finishing high school Dale enlisted in the navy and was sta-tioned at the Brunswick Naval Air Station near

Pejepscoc. One of June’s girlfriend’s Dad owned a gas station and June stopped by to chat with her friend. Dale and some of his buddies were headed to a local skating rink and stopped in for gas. June got into a conversation with Dale whose first name is Monty but he introduced himself as Dale so that he wouldn’t get a lot of calls at the base. However, June got the last laugh on names as before the year was out her last name changed to “Ford”. So, now that PV is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary Dale and June have recently topped us by celebrating their 60th! Their marriage has been blessed with two sons and a daugh-ter, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. You know the old adage about history repeating itself? Well, Dale and June’s daughter met her husband when he was serving at the same navy base where Dale had been stationed! After serving in the navy for 10 years Dale hired into a paper company in Maine where he worked for 18 1/2 years before it went out of business. Then he was employed by Kelly Services where his job was the hiring and firing of temps. After 10 years Dale accepted retirement. June worked for W.T. Grant for 10 years before they went bank-rupt, then at a grocery store for five years and finished her working career in Maine working at a credit union for 10 years. In 2008 Dale and June became residents at PV and in 2010 Dale was elected as president of the HOA. But,

after only one year, June became restless and rejoined the work force at Cracker Barrel where after only 1 1/2 years she was named employee of the year. She has now worked there for 11 years. Not to be outdone, Dale was hired as a crossing guard where he worked for 6 years before a tragic accident. He was struck by a car and if not for the efforts of a dentist who was a nearby motorist that managed to stabilize Dale’s vitals before he was rushed to the trauma center in St. Petersburg he might well have died. When I asked them about precious memories Dale said that he was extremely happy when they found a home in Plantation Village and June said that one of hers was the cruise, they took out of Fort Lauderdale in 1984 when they celebrated their 25th anniversary. Dale and June left PV for 6 months before deciding that was a mistake and they returned to us. We are so happy to have them back. I want to thank the Fords and everyone else who has given me their time for these interviews. It has been an extremely enjoyable experience and I have gotten to ap-preciate people more and more.
