Rotor Construction

Hyundai Ideal Electric Co.s our-poledesign uses integral pole laminations,bolted and riveted together under highpressure beore shrunk-t and keyedto the shat. This integral design is aar superior design as it eliminates theneed to separately attach eld polesor pole tips. The eld coils are tensionwound using insulated rectangularcopper wire. Aluminum supports arespaced to secure the eld coils underall operating conditions.

Four-Pole Synchronous Generators /

For our larger our-pole generators,a solid orged salient pole rotorconstruction is employed. This rotordesign, which is stier and moremechanically stable than the smallerlaminated style, allows us to buildgenerators with output ratings up to25 MW. Strap eld coils are utilizedwith this rotor design.

The completed rotor assembly isdynamically balanced to our ownstandards, which are more stringent thanmost U.S. and international standards.

Bearings

HIECs our-pole generatorsincorporate oil lubricated split-sleeve journal bearings. All bearingsare designed or food / pressurelubrication or sel-lubrication,most are urnished with oil ringsto provide bearing lubricationduring emergency shut-down.

Four pole generators, oten reerred to inthe industry as turbine generators are usedin applications where a high speed turbine(gas, steam, expander) drives the generator,typically through a speed reducing gearbox.The rotating speed delivered to the 4-polegenerator needs to be 1500 RPM (50 hertz)or 1800 RPM (60 hertz).

Electrical FeaturesOur custom engineered designphilosophy allows us to meetany unique or specied machineperormance requirement(optimizing generator eciency,designing or special reactances,or minimizing waveorm deviationand voltage harmonics).

Sealed Insulation SystemHIECs standard insulation systemincludes Class F vacuum-pressureimpregnation with polyester or epoxyresins. Both systems pass immersionand spray tests per NEMA 1-20.49.

Corona protection is provided asstandard or stators above 6000 Volts.

ExcitationBrushless excitation is by ar the most

popular choice. It combines lowcost with perormance suitable ornearly all applications, and eliminatesthe problems o brush wear andmaintenance. Brush-type excitation isavailable i required.

Hyundai-Ideal Electric Co.s brushlessexciter design combines a high-requency three-phase output withull wave rectication, which assuresminimum ripple current and asterresponse. The rectiers are mounted

on a copper heat sink. Redundant

used rectiers can be urnished orcritical applications.

A permanent magnet pilot exciteris typically urnished as an integralpart o the exciter or use as a powersupply to the voltage regulator. Using

a permanent magnet pilot exciterin place o a power transormerprovides the advantages o black startcapability and orcing current undershort circuit conditions.

Voltage RegulatorsHIEC oers a state-o-the-art electronicvoltage regulator system as part o ourbrushless excitation package. Featuressuch as VAR/Power Factor control,excitation limiting and motor operatedcontrols are also available.
