4.2 Prepare cable as describe in the previousarmored cable prep section Wrap the sheathwith Scotch All Weather Telephone VinylPlastic Tape 88T or equivalent to protect fiberfrom the sharp cable sheath edges. Do not wrapthe last inch (25 mm) of the cable sheath.

4.3 Prepare the closure base by locating the ground

studs inside the closure base. Loosen the uppernut 3 to 4 turns on the ground stud using a 1/2inch (13mm) nut driver. It is not necessary toremove the small vinyl caps.

4.4 Place the forked end of the ground wire betweenthe pair of washers. Re-torque the ground studnut to 30 in-lbs.

4.5 Position and route grounds to minimizeinterference with cables ports and splicing.Cable end ground connections are made afterthe cables are installed in the base.

Note: The installation and removal of the ECAM27MM-D is the same for both the metallic andthe non-metallic versions. For demonstration

purposes, the metallic version will be used

    throughout the instruction manual.

5.0 3M Double Cable Assembly ECAM 27MM-D Removal5.1 Using a 3/8 inch (10 mm) nut driver loosen the

clamp screws on the external cable assemblymodule (ECAM). Pull clamps outward androtate as shown. Lightly re-tighten screw tohold clamps in place.

5.2 Loosen the three screws and separate the top and bottom halves of the 27-mm ECAM double cableassembly using a 3/8 inch (10 mm) nut driver.

5.3 Loosen the three screws to remove the cableclamp from the bottom half of the of the 27-mmECAM double cable assembly using a 3/8 inch(10 mm) nut driver. Keep the longer center screwlocated in the center position.

6.0 Cable Gauge DecalUse the supplied cable gauge to determine the propercable clamp shells, washers and correct amount ofmastic needed to build a sealing collar.

6.1 Place the cable gauge decal on the cable as shown below. Be sure to place decal in-line with the cable.

    Correct Incorrect

6.2 Read between the arrows on the decal todetermine the amount of mastic, clamp shellsand washer needed to properly assemblethe 3M Double Cable Entry Port ECAM-27MM-D. This information can be recorded inthe log at the bottom of this page.

Note: If the arrows on the decal point at the linebetween two different sizes, use what is listed inthe box below the line. Also note that no clampshells are required if gauge indicates NONE inthe shell column.

Note: If two differently-sized cables are used repeat this

procedure for the second cable and record thisinformation in the Cable 2 section of the log. LOG Mastic CutLength

7.0 Cable Clamp Shell Selection7.1 Locate clamp shells on the clamp shell tree.

Note that each clamp shell is numbered.Remove the required clamp shell sets from parttree. Make two sets of clamp shells for eachcable.

7.2 If multiple shells are required for a specificcable size, locate these and assemble into sets.

7.3 Note the orientation of pin and socket andassemble as shown.

7.4 Assemble clamp shell(s) into the cable clamp. Note the orientation of pin and socket andassemble accordingly.

    Mastic Collar Build

8.3 Mark cables approximately .25 inches (6 mm)from the end of sheath. This is to locate themastic collar.

8.4 Washers can be split along notch for installationover the cable.

8.5 Install two washers on each cable near sheathend as shown.

8.6 Unroll mastic and measure out the requiredamount. Repeat for second cable.

Note: See chart in section 6.2 for required masticlength.

Note: Warm mastic before use if temperature is below50F (10C).

8.7 Trim the corners from the mastic forming points at both ends.

8.8 Wrap the mastic starting 0.25 inches (6 mm)from the sheath end. Wrap mastic evenly aroundcable. DO NOT STRETCH MASTIC.

8.9 Release liner can be wrapped around mastic collar temporarily to keep mastic clean. Be sure to removethe liner before installing the cable into 3M Double Cable Entry Port ECAM-27MM-D housing.Relocate washers next to collar. Repeat for second cable.

8.10 Peel the mastic rope from the liner and place into the groove in the 3M Double Cable Entry PortECAM-27MM-D bottom half. Press mastic rope in place and route as shown. Make sure at least 0.25inches (6 mm) of the mastic rope extends out both ends as shown.

8.11 Install the first cable into the external cableassembly module (ECAM) housing bottom half.

Note the grooves in the housing for locatingwashers.

Note: If differently-sized cables are used, ensure thecable is placed into the correct cable clamp shellset in bottom housing.

Note: On cables prepared for grounding, install thecable into the bottom housing with cable sheathtab facing up as shown.

8.12 Install the second cable into the housing. Notethat the washers are offset from the first set.
