• Waterproof

Window Wall is certified A3 (according to SAS613) whichmeans that it is water and weather proof for both coastal andinland locations.

• Structurally SoundWindow Wall meets requirements for L/175 which meansthat it is structurally sound for domestic and commercialapplications.

• Energy Efficient

Window Wall can accommodate single and doubleglazing from 6mm to 27 mm which means it isenergy efficient.U-value tested and certified down to 3.36 with 24mm(6-12-6) Low E glass with Air fill.

Also intruder resistant glass can be used to improvesecurity where required.

• Quick assemblyWindow Wall uses a split mullion design to allowpanel-by-panel assembly in the factory rather thanworking on site.Quality and Workmanship can maintained undercontrolled conditions.Split Mullions are available in sizes of 111mm and166mm depedning on height, mullion centres and windpressure specified.

• Efficient Installation

The Head, Sill and side compensators allow for panel-bypanel installation. Scaffolding will seldom be requiredthereby saving money and time.Installation of Panels saves time on site and floors can beclosed off quicker than with conventional stick systems.Floors can be closed off quickly to allow internal work tocommence.

The structural Head compensator absorbs allstructural loads along the top. For this reasonthere is no need for Mullion Fixing bracketstop and bottom.

Compensators allow for the free thermalexpansion all round to avoid glass crackingand stress build-up.

Long term settling of Floor slabs and otherbuilding dynamics up to 30mm can beabsorbed.

Window Wall is economical and fit for purpose in bothDomestic and Low-rise Commercial applications wherehigh performance is required.Cost per m2 is typically 20% more than a Shop front but40% less than a typical Curtain Wall. • Weatherline web built into all profilesThe weatherline web allows for controlled secondarydrainage throughout the Window Wall.All joints are sealed at the weatherline web to ensure thatwater does not pass into the inner cavity.

• Sash with Multi-point lock systemA single handle locks in multiple points –typically 2 or more places to give improvedlocking and better weather performance.Better ergonomics with a single handle.

The multi point lock system can carry upto 150kg providing better security andperformance.

Top hung sashes can be made up to1700x1200mm with 24mm double glazing.

Side Hung sashes in principle up to1000x1700mm. Friction stay limitationsrestricts this size in reality.

• Punch Tool for Corner ConnectorsQuick, Accurate and Consistent punching ofholes for the corner connector in Sash andEqual leg outer frame. Improvedproductivity and better overall finish is theresult.

Architectural SpecificationWindow Wall

GENERALScreens shall be the Window Wall system as supplied by HBS Aluminium Systems.Manufacture shall be in accordance with the current manuals as provided by HBS Aluminium Systems viawww.hbs.co.za.

MATERIALSMaterial shall be of 6063T6 aluminium alloy with a minimum structural wall thickness of 1.8mm.Outer frame to infill panels will be a nominal depth of 166 or 111mm.

CONSTRUCTIONOuter frame to consist of a single part compensating head and jamb and continuous sub-Sill.Infill panels are to be constructed from double cavity tubular profiles, forming a wet cavity with drainageslots to allow for transom drainage to the exterior. All glazing rebates to be 25mm. Joints of the infillpanels shall be notched and screwed to spigots with No 8 stainless steel screws. Where required, a111mm or 166mm Split mullion assembly must be used to couple infill panels together, still makingallowance for all thermal and dynamic movement. Door panels within the screens to have a 4-edge doorrebate with gasket seal all round.

INSTALLATIONPanel-by-panel installation from Inside or from Outside the building.

HARDWAREAll sashes to have mechanical Corner Connectors, wind locks and multi-point locking handles. Sashes notto exceed 1700mm wide by 1200mm high as per specification. Friction stay to suit max weight and sizeof Sash.Door hardware shall be compatible with the system and will take cognisance of the finish specification ofthe applicable area. See Hardware Schedule for door.

FINISHSections will be painted in accordance with SABS1578, parts1 & 2.

GLAZINGGlazing is to be carried out in accordance with SABS 0137, with particular attention to size limitations,packing and setting blocks.Thicknesses from 6-28mm.

STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCESystem shall meet or exceed the requirements of SANS613 and the design loading determination by SABS0160 for this application.Deflection of structural members shall not exceed L/175 or L/240+6mm as applicable.

THERMAL PERFORMANCESystem shall comply with SANS204 in applications where Fenestration makes up more than 15% of Floorarea.U-value with Air filled glazing units = 3.36For U-values below 3.38 use Argon or Krypton gas filled glazing units.

All I-values, strength and loading charts provided herein are for information only and it expected that thefabricator will ensure that his engineer has checked and confirmed that the details and strengthsrecommendations comply with his particular contracts requirements.

Care and Maintenance

Aluminium is an excellent material, nonetheless certain precautions should be taken to ensuremaximum longevity. HBS products should be periodically maintained and their use should be inaccordance with specified aims.

ProfilesRecommendations should be followed.When the environment contains no aggressive elements, as is generally the case in rural or lowdensityurban areas, cleaning should generally be carried out annually, but with frequency variationsaccording to environmental conditions. Regularly maintained surfaces can be sponge-washed usingwater and neutral detergent. This may be carried out at the same time as window cleaning.Do not use abrasive products.

GlassCleaning should be carried out using water only or with neutral detergents. Avoid the use of toolslikely to scratch the glass. During maintenance, care should be taken to avoid damage leading totearing of weathering barriers. Some special glazing requires specific maintenance which should bespecified by the glass supplier.

DrainageThe various rebates, gutters, and rails should be kept clean and free from obstructions to ensureproper movement of leaves and drainage of water ingress.Drainage, guttering and pressure balancing openings should also be kept clean and free fromobstruction.

HardwareMoving parts should be checked, adjusted, and lubricated at least once a year. Particular attentionshould be paid to screw tightening. In the case of intensive use, maintenance should be suitablyscheduled to ensure joinery remains in good condition and meets safety standards.All non-plastic mechanisms should be lubricated with oil or resin- and acid-free grease. Any damagedparts should be replaced.All lock mechanisms and moving parts should be lubricated. Do not lubricate hinges.

Powder CoatingPowder coating is preferred to anodising for the following reasons:

· Anodising exposes the most discrete die lines, powder coating tends to minimise the impact of die lines· Anodising colour variations are common place; with powder coating colour variations are uncommon· Anodising has directionality which means that transoms and mullions may appear to have a different colour,this does not happen with powder coating· Anodising is difficult if not impossible to clean especially if covered with mortar; powder coating is moreforgiving and easier to clean.
